hi everyone, something to get going. I just started learning to ride (2B now) and was wondering, given Singapore space constraints, it seems like a waste of road space during rush hour to designate a bus lane where other cars are jammed. Couldn't the authorities consider opening up the bus lane to buses AND motorcycles? This would make it safer for us since we don't have to squeeze with cars and motorcycles won't cause the bus to be stuck in traffic as we can easily go to the front of the bus at red lights.

In Europe, places like Amsterdam and Copenhagan already have designated bicycle lanes just for bicycles where even pedestrains are not allowed to walk in. If Singapore is a First World country, shouldn't the authorities considered this just to cut down on the number of accidents by motorcyclists?

Some more we can admire each other bikes at the red light junctions instead of being sardined between two cars or worse, between a bus and a cement mixer.

Any views guys?

i rather not ride in buslane for teh bus move slower den other vehicles

please leave the bus lane to buses during the bus lane hours.

If a biker doesnt practice proper riding techniques & ride recklessly , riding anywhere is oso not safe .

Friend when you buy a bike and start riding on the road after you got your license you will know like that safe or not liao...

try to stay staggered lor.. dun stay directly behind them.. esp in the peak hours.. ride safely.

just dun ride near huge vehicles, their vision not tat gd

is nt their fault.. their vehicle is too big... so cannot see their blind spot.

NO point assigning bike lanes for motorcycles.
A55hole drivers will take advantage of the lane just like they take advantage of bus lanes. and we are at a losing end if the drivers decide to eat us in our lanes.

hahaha.. guys... don't be surprise dat our neighbour hv motorcycle lanes on their main road. Recently i went tomy kampong in Muar, Johor. This stretch of road hv desiganted motorcycle lanes on the left side of traffic on each way. And it states "MOTOSIKAL SAHAJA" also meaning motorcycles only..
and these lanes are about half lanes away from the "car" lanes.. so which makes it safe i think to ride in the bike lanes..

I asked the coach driver and he say bikes MUST use the lane. Which would usually means 30km/h thereabouts when the cars enjoy 4-5 lanes of highway.

there are lots of m'cycle lanes in KL area. Tho they exist, i usually still use the main highway alongside it, never gotten stopped before. Perhaps its due to me riding a 400cc.

i did try using the motorcycle lanes in m'sia before towards kukup..quite useful but still some of the conditions not so good and with some uneven parts..be careful ;) my friends thus told me not to ride in there..

yes i agree.. use it only wen u r stuck in jams.. i experienced it in Muar town.. very troublesome when i got into the car lanes, wherelse my fren who went into the bike lane was riding free n easy...:cry:

Buses are big but predictable, no abrupt lane change no tailgating. They are not 24/7 in the lane, so most of the time the lanes are empty.

Been riding for years in bus lanes in Sydney I feel so safe there although taxis are allowed in the lanes as well.

Yep jb, even there's a m/c lane assigned on m'sia roads. Condition is not tat good & i prefer to stay on the main lane itself. :P

Couldnt agree more with you. Staying staggered & in between is much more safer than behind vehicles. Give you ample time & space for immediate reaction.

I think they don't want a situation where there are dozens of bikes blocking the bus lane like what we see at the checkpoint during peak hours thats why they are not for the idea of us sharing the bus lane.
