Scarlett 10-06-2003, 04:20 PM Hail Daniujie~
:argue: Just wanna list out a couple of things...
Full face - it's your face/head we talking about here, you decided how much it worth. Not too big though, there's a friend who slimmed down a lot and the full face flunged out and the strapped cut his face when he crashed. ehhh a female friend of mine crashed and landed on an open face, and then the visor cracked, and luckily she didn't lane on her front cos the visor snapped into 2, and folded in the centre, pointing in at her face.
Many riders don't survive because of the open faced helmet.
Jacket/armoured - denim, a thick jacket, the best is armoured jacket. T shirt doesn't provide any protection at all, you wouldn't want to feel the skin sand-papered on the tarmac.. And I can see how my friend's hit-air really saved his life and from any major injuries. My another friend crashed on the occasion which was the first time he forgot to wear his jacket.
Jeans/Long Pants - I saw a large fresh shiny bruise on my friend's butt even though he was wearing this long pair of jeans. And I have a deep cut on my calf from a slow speed accident just outside my place justifies why berms and shorts and skirts are no-no. :nono:
Gloves/leather gloves - Normally we break falls with hands, and hence, protect your palms.. and think of the things you can't do when your palms are sandpapered on the ground.. well.. though we not guys.. but our hands still need to do many other stuff. My boy's gloves prevent his hands from any scratch cos he was wearing some really good gloves.
Covered shoes/boots - My friend had a slow speed crash and his nike shoes had this huge hole, so imagine the hole is on your feet. Lucky for him cos he normally rides in slippers.
[b]Its not about the image, not about the weather, and not about whether you ride or you are the pillion, and certainly doesn't matter if you speed, or what bike you ride, because sometimes accidents just happen. Ehh.. I know I am paranoid, cos seen too much horror stories.. :pity:
i dun mean to sound disrespectful, but i find r1 and busa riders in shorts and slippers and tshirts and zeus a [fade:42fab3373b]disgrace.... [/fade:42fab3373b]
and at pitstop on sunday, a few busa riders had a lecture from a fellow busa rider cos they were all in open face/berms/singlets and the busa rider said 'if you don't want to wear properly, might as well don't ride, and you guys make me ashame i ride same bike.'
Doesn't mean to insult them.. but it just goes to show.. the attire is about safety.. not image. :shades:
 sorry i very long winded one..

Nope u are not long winded chocolate piey..
It's norm for us ladies to wanna look good while sitting or riding the bike but nevertheless..wat's the point of looking good when wat u wear could be only a hazard esp if ya involve in an accident..imagine an acident..n abrasion n scars on ur shoulder or hand..if u are daring enuff..u will continue to wear sleevelesss..but if nt..u can forget abt sleeveless.
I noe it is sauna under those hot amour jacket(Cos i myself hate the heat)..but remember u would rather feel the heat and complain andhave ur jacket kissing the road den ur skin kissing it.
Many peps thinks tat pillion wearing gloves is ridiculous..well i dont tink so..as a pillion i noe hw it feels ..unless u love the stinging pain of having the skin on ur palm tangling..then be my guest.
Riding bike is cool and fun n of cos ride bcos of passion but dont forget..the road dont belong to u alone..u noe how reckless singapore drivers are..imagine on circuit they are like worst..wat's more on the road....

I myself oso wear glove & it really Help me,
cos tt time just pass & is riding TA200 but find is abit too heavy.
When turning out of the C.park i lost my balance & fell
Luckly i'm wearing glove & it safe my palms fm sandpapered the ground
cos i use my hand to broke the fall!!!!!!!!!

I myself is guilty of improper attire when riding... Trying to change that now...
But i think that besides necessary protection, correct posture is also important (again am guilty of it)...
Sometimes see pple riding with their feet on the foot pad only n not on the brake n gear. Might be ok when travelling at slow speed but if at faster speed, will need more time to react thus resulting in certain level of danger...
There's a chinese saying "ma lu ru hu kou"
Direct translation means the road is like a tiger's mouth....

Woman......just how did you see that bruise?????
Anyway, long long time ago....a fren of mine regaled me with his accident stories.
He was hit from behind, bodily flung from his bike, body skidded on the tarmac and woke up in the hospital.....
After he was discharged from hospital few weeks later, he went to the scene of the accident and managed to peel off a layer of skin, on top of a strip of his jeans which was totally imbedded onto the tarmac......u can really see the different colours and peel it apart like peeling 2 layers of Kueh Lapis....
And oh yeah.....part of his tigh is rough and hairless becos the top part of that portion of skin was sandpapered off.

OFFICIAL 10-06-2003, 06:38 PM Actually Agreed with you girls but i find that above all those armor, Bike condition plays a big part in preventing injuries. As some old wise man once said no matter how good once skill and preparetion, If the Horse cannot run or cannot be controled you'll confirm fall.
And to get a perfect protection in Singapore weather is always the Hardest thing comprimise. After riding so long, i tend to forget protection and depend more on skill and exprience. Always skipping out the !@##@#@ Hot Jacket. Unless some company comes out with a Cooling Jacket that protects then i'll be back like terminator, if not i'll be more like this.http://expn.go.com/media/mtx/freeridemotox/2001/photos/nashville/011012_5.jpg

shebiker67 12-06-2003, 06:38 AM Hi Gals,
I'm very happy to hear that you gals want to be preventive in riding in your wear. Keep it up. Actually, found this thread already mentioned all the issues I would have brought up by Ting7ing. Thanks Ting7ing. :cheer:
On a serious mode, this preventive wear is not only mean for Gals. It's Unisex. All bikers should try to wear to an extend that it would protect them. I've seen many a cases of bikers crashed and wounded seriously because of negligence.
Recent case: 1. a CBR ( yet to confirm with owner if it's confirm total wrecked ) rider skidded. She is lucky as she escapes with minor abrasions on her limbs. Even from her full face helmet, there were scratches on the helmet which proves that she has just made a lucky escaped with the proper attire.
2. A cl2 biker on a sports bike accident in M'sia while going at high speed. He was wearing full face helmet, bermuda and sports shoe. He is still in hospital and is going for major of cos he broken his leg bone.
3. A cl2 biker skidded cos he was going nearby coffeeshop. He was wearing minimal, no gloves and open face helmet. Sustained many many many abrasions on his hands, arms and legs.
Ok ok... If I were to continue to list... I think it'll never end. Therefore, make it a good habit that you wear full face helmet, jacket, gloves, jeans/thick long pants and boots/toes covered shoes. The weather may be hot but you choose between arriving in sweats but you can cool it off or covered with injuries should a mishap happens to you. Once you get used to it, you will find yourself feeling 'naked' when not wearing them.
Hope to see you well geared on the road... wave when we are on the road
biaxident 12-06-2003, 12:14 PM How much protective gear you have on = How much you value your body.
3 years back, I was riding down the road when a van made an illegal U-turn from the opposite direction into my path at the last moment. I couldn't brake in time and crashed and got flung off the bike.
I was wearing a Shoei fullface, kevlar racing gloves, a jacket. Plus, I also had a havelsack on my back.
I slid like 30 meters past Jurong Camp busstop with ppl all watching me. When I got up, I had almost no abrasions except for minor ones at the elbow and knees. My havelsack protected my back. My helmet protected my face and head.
My gloves protected my hands from abrasions... but I still broke my finger and fractured the meta-tarsals from breaking my fall.
--------
Recently, my GF was also in an accident with a bus. Serious one. She had no abrasions at the upper body 'cos of a leather jacket and glove. She had a cut on her lips 'cos her face smashed into the full face internals when she flew headfirst into the bus backside. Could have been worse with an open face. She fractured her hip/pelvis, which was bad... but if you think abt it again, everything could have been worse if she had just worn an open-face, T-shirt, with no gloves.
------
In both cases, the injuries could have been much worse if not for protective gear. Think abt it.
Like I said. How much you're willing to invest in and wear protective gear = how much you value your life and limb.
*Garnet* 12-06-2003, 03:52 PM Many peps thinks tat pillion wearing gloves is ridiculous..well i dont tink so..as a pillion i noe hw it feels ..unless u love the stinging pain of having the skin on ur palm tangling..then be my guest
heee... when my bf bought me gloves and jacket.. i tot he over-reacted.. til another fren said in a crash, the pillion's safety is more at risk than the rider....
its really hot in the jacket and uncomfortable with the gloves..cant comb my hair with my fingers.. but guess just haf to bear with it :D
Hariku 12-06-2003, 03:58 PM True, riding a bike with the proper protection is a wise move. There's one more thing that we have neglected, thats how to fall. In short the 'Art of falling', so as not to get too serverly banged up...
Thats my $0.02 worth...

shebiker67 13-06-2003, 08:05 AM :pity: Please please be properly attire when you are riding or pillion...
I've just seen and clean the wound of a female pillion rider who fell off a superbike on high speed in M'sia. She fell because wanted to adjust her helmet without notifying the rider. She flew and glided on the road. She was wearing only a thin material of denim jacket and jeans which was badly torn in every way. She sufferred severe severe abrasions and deep wounds. I spent 2 1/2 hrs cleaning her wounds and apply medicine. She is lucky that there aren't any fractures but she will have scars on her from the deep wounds...
So please, be properly attired.
Pillions: please tap the shoulder of the rider to tell them to slow down for any reason that you may not be holding onto him/her.

OUCH.... :pity: I think it's also important to have the right pillion ettiquette..something I am still trying to learn too...cos i have very bad balancing :nono: ... something which is in born one :pity: ... so sometimes i can even fall off from a stationary bike when learning... oops  so i will be very unstable if i need to adjust something..
shebiker67 13-06-2003, 06:12 PM well.... when it comes to protection, it's how much priority you view your safety. If you place it no 1, things will fall into place as in what to wear, your riding style and your alertness and mentality.
For me, I pray that I don't have to go thru what the girl had gone thru or many others that I've seen before. "So, how do I prevent them?" I ask myself. The answer is again our gears, riding style, alertness and mentality. Therefore, riding with jacket, good denim jeans, boots, gloves and full face helmet comes into picture. The pillion gal told me, 'I don't think so I will ride/pillion again'. :pity:
So, ask yourself, what is important to you when you ride? Would you like to live to ride another day?
Live to ride....
daniujie 13-06-2003, 06:46 PM OUCH.... :pity: I think it's also important to have the right pillion ettiquette..something I am still trying to learn too...cos i have very bad balancing :nono: ... something which is in born one :pity: ... so sometimes i can even fall off from a stationary bike when learning... oops  so i will be very unstable if i need to adjust something..whenever i have a pillion, i insist they at least put their hands on my shoulders. At least I feel that they are there. I feel very insecure when my pillion dun hold on to me. Especially my bro, he like to play with my ballooned windbreaker when we are moving faster, so he tends to lift his hand up  always kenna scolding from me.
............. Therefore, riding with jacket, good denim jeans, boots, gloves and full face helmet comes into picture. The pillion gal told me, [b]'I don't think so I will ride/pillion again'. :pity:

Live to ride....
i had an accident as a pillion a few years back....when u get such a shock of becoming a human torpedo flying off a bike...its not funny. of coz she wouldn't dare to ride/pillion again
well...i didnt dare to be pillion for a long time, even skipper!...but decided to move on n get over it by learning how to ride..
of coz...i still panic like crazy when i get pillioned around, even by instructors.... where some of my classmates are busy chasing the image of riding a bike.....i am chasing a fear....
my wounds were juz mild abrasions, but they took about 6-8 mths to heal. imagine if i wasn't wearing any jacket, or full face helmet, it will be a not-so-pretty scar.. and, having scars is nothing gungho to show off about....this applies especially so to girls..
i see alot of bikers with their not-so-fully-clothed female pillons zipping in n out of traffic all the time... i get scared for them. u dun even have to be travelling fast to skid...some little debris like a drink can is enough cause a minor accident to have a permanent scar...
so girls, pls, riding or even as a pillion, please gear up. i couldn't agree more...this is coming from somebody who was so close to becoming a yearly statistic in the tp books..
and if u think i m lucky to escape with no scars...think again...the mental scar is a deep one n its still bleeding.
biaxident 14-06-2003, 11:31 AM whenever i have a pillion, i insist they at least put their hands on my shoulders. At least I feel that they are there.
No. No hands on shoulder. If you should hit a bump and the pillion panics, he could pull on the rider's shoulder, in turn causing the rider to pull the handlebar the wrong way. No need to tell you what the result might be.
If you're riding a sportbike, or road bike, with a big enough fuel tank, get the pillion to hold ONTO the tank. Arms go around rider body (no need to hug or touch) and hold onto the tank. Also, grip thighs around rider's hips.
Nothing naughty or horny abt this. It's all about safety and stability.
Three purposes for this.
1 - Under braking, pillion won't slide into rider. This can cause painful Groin pain for guys, and for gals... er... just plain uncomfortable? Or can destabilize the rider
2 - With hands on tank, the pillion has less of a tendency to lean against the rider... eg; Left bend, rider lean left, scared pillion leans right/keep upright
3 - Centralize the mass of both rider and pillion. Pillion has less tendency to lean backwards and create an unstable mass at tail of bike.
For choppers/scramblers and bikes with small tanks, best to hold onto rider's hips/waist and also grip rider's hips with thighs.
Same reasons as above.
If gal riders worry about other guys "eating their dou fu", then it's simple... DON'T PILLION then.

TA200 accidents
1st accident - running at 50+ to 60 km/hr, brake (didnt jam) and front wheel locked up.
the next thing i noe, was sliding and woke up under a car.
2nd accident - doing bout 80 on left-most lane on aye towards NUH. just finished
raining so i didnt really speed up. suddenly an uncle who stopped by the
shoulder (w/o checking blind spot and didnt signal) just dash into my lane.
jammed ma brakes for fear of crashing into him. another front wheel lock-up
3rd accident - doing bout 90 at ms. approached a corner, down 2 gears,
tapped brakes and went in. saw ma speed's ard 70. just before
straightening, rear wheel gave way. it was early National Day for me that year.
windrider 14-06-2003, 03:59 PM Holy cow! I think I need to wear full metal armor from head to toes or maybe just sell away my bike and take bus. :faint:
But then I love the sense of freedom when riding, so I guess I will stick with the armor. :box:

ya hor, i never think of this also. coz my waist too big lah, then ask people hug me huh, their helmet will keep hitting my helmet one  think will start asking them to put on my hips liao
yah, bikes with big fuel tanks .... think guys will have a big problem in a head-on crash. Groin will hit the tank. I was injured myself this way. Dunno the effect for gers ... but worth mentioning such a scenario in this topic ....

For the first 10 min of each rain. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT jam or do anything sudden with the front brakes. Slight tapping only.
As for the first 5 min in any rain, Oil or debries from the Tarmac will rise up from beneath, just like oil ganna water.
Try to use rear brakes offen cause rear skids are more easier to control.
Usually your own body balancing reflexes will take over naturally. thing is don't ganjiong. If going to hit somthing release rear break and steer away.
Avoided many human and bike repairs with this tech. Really alot. If you ppl know wat i'm working part time.
witch 16-06-2003, 04:08 AM i tot use rear brakes not really good....
i try many time on my rear brakes... steping too hard or wat... behind keep swimming lor.. so very scare... got once swim untill very scary nearly fall down..
as for front brake.. i oso dare not brake much... coz scare later jam brake... if jam will be more worse then rear lor... die faaster.. haha :cheer: :nono: :nono: :nono:
OFFICIAL 16-06-2003, 08:42 AM Sorry for the wrong Spelling, should be Cautious, hehhehee
NOt jaming but to glide it(Harder and Harder.)
yah and always brake ahead. Just don't wait until the last moment. Anticipate where and when it's going to stop.
If fish-tailed don't ganjiong keep body straight and knees tight to tank. release brakes and control bike straight.
Front brakes also must apply but later after you felt the bike slow down enough and front sliding can be avoided. Key is also Braking ahead.
You are not racing so no need to wait till the last moment.
biaxident 17-06-2003, 12:15 PM No. No hands on shoulder. If you should hit a bump and the pillion panics, he could pull on the rider's shoulder, in turn causing the rider to pull the handlebar the wrong way. No need to tell you what the result might be.
ya hor, i never think of this also. coz my waist too big lah, then ask people hug me huh, their helmet will keep hitting my helmet one  think will start asking them to put on my hips liao
Common.
Driving center teach the wrong thing... Put hand on shoulders... utter garbage. It's dangerous.
If the bike has grab-bars/rails on the rear fairing, then it's best the pillion uses one hand on it, and the other hand on the rider's hips or fuel tank.
And pillions should always try to lean towards the riders.
I can't believe how many dumb Ah-Lians I've seen, pillioning on their BF's NSR150SPs and they sit upright or leaning back a little. The balance of the entire bike is already upset... If the rider is unaware about the laws of physics, he'll try to corner with the gal still sitting upright. There will be... trouble....
biaxident 17-06-2003, 12:18 PM yah, bikes with big fuel tanks .... think guys will have a big problem in a head-on crash. Groin will hit the tank. I was injured myself this way. Dunno the effect for gers ... but worth mentioning such a scenario in this topic ....
Same effect for gals. Even if the tank is level or small.
My GF suffered injuries to her pelvis and 'groin' area when she slammed into a bus. And that was on a Phantom 150 with a flat fuel tank.
Tank got dented in by her... "groin"... Massive bruises, some internal injuries, and fracture pelvis.
This is no joke. It's better off dropping the bike and jumping off to slide on the road, rather than to ride the bike into a frontal collision.
biaxident 17-06-2003, 12:29 PM TA200 accidents

shebiker67 26-06-2003, 11:14 PM anybody can recommend big size, cheap and good jacket? :D
Well... I do have an used jacket of AXO that is not waterproof which I don't mind selling it away as second hand as cheaply. But then hor, if it's for you, I think it'll be big for you. You look for size S cos these armour jackets are based on caucasian sizes. Thus, for us gers esp when we are Asians which are small build, gers should look for either XXS or XS or S sizes. Don't have to look for big sizes.

Hey daniujie,
i've just bought a jacket which is Aria & is waterproof.
$$$ below $100--
i find is very worth it.
But is quite thick...........(anyway like tt than it'll protect yr skin)
:shades:
sweeper 26-06-2003, 11:45 PM :shades: Hello girls, where to get the jacket stuff? Any lobang?
Leather one better or synthetic one ?

Well.. would like to clear this misconception... Thickness does not ensure protection to your skin. It only applies if you are not 'gliding' long distance on the road. The jacket would be quite appropriate for Singapore road use if you are not going fast. However, I would say that the 'thick' jacket may not applies so much on M'sia roads where a rider have a tendency to go fast. Therefore, an armour jacket would be much more adviceable.

As 4 this i know!!
But i think they're talking abt a jacket tt can be use in s'pore.
& 4 normal protection.(better than wind-breaker)
If they r talking abt a armour jacket than don't talk abt $$$$...........
Cos it'll cost $200+ 4 a armour jacket & they lot more thing 2 buy 2!

Delusi0n 16-07-2003, 08:10 PM personally, i do agreee tat good protection for riding is necessary, and when it is necessary, money plays a part too.
normally, how can a student who ride bike for transport purpost haf enough money left after paying installments, pump oil, maintaining bike, eat at school, etc etc.

if can save up for downpayment for a bike.. this cost perhaps shud be included also.. i mean certain things is wad u make do with, and can plus minus there. so hopefully people who are riding, and calculate the costs, the gears can be considered as necessity rather than luxury items.. :|

Yes... I fully agree with TingTing... If you can save for your bike, do include the cost of riding gears so that you are protected minimally. At least, you are also giving your family some peace of mind that you are riding with proper gears.. Not just teeshirt and shorts with slippers and open face helmets with no gloves...
Motorworld selling Komine jacket, range from $150 onwards....
$150 one with limited amour, better get the $200 one, all amour removable, so when you not riding a long distance, you can take out the guard, if you go M'sia then put it in...

Flip up recommendation:
Regina - Airoh SR600 / Airoh Mathisse.
The SR600 should be going for abt 400.... If you char bor can sweet talk the counter guy, maybe 380. The Mathisse should be ard the price range too.
Loois - Shoei Syncrotec.
$490 now. Special offer till Aug end. Get it while it's this low...
Chong Aik - Shoei Syncrotec at $590.... Go Loois better
Can also consider Nolan N100/E.
Never... NEVER EVER get the Zeus Flip Face. That weak little chinbar will no doubt cave in if you ever have a frontal crash. I have a Zeus Flip Face.... trust me. It's damned flimsy.

ViciousKitty74 04-04-2006, 11:16 AM Have noticed that most accidents involving a rider to throw the bike.
The rider suffers injuries to the knees.
And there is limited choices of pants/jeans with protection on the knees for most riders.

Like the ICON jeans, with aramid protection at the knees.

But sad to say the design is for caucasians, so the knee guard becomes the shin guards for shorties like me

Yes, blusher will come off though.
And if you draw your eyebrows, that'll come off too...
Dust particles may stick to your lip gloss/ lip stick if you apply that.
So it means that you'd have to do a re-touch after a ride.
And not forgetting that your helmet might be stained with your foundation powder if you use that too.

Hi rehdeer,
Yep, I put on make-up & full face helmet whenever I goes to work.
Depend on the fit of my helmet, I nowadays dont apply the foundation & powder as much.
Usually the foundation & powder are applied roughly on my T-zone; across my eyebrows, my eyelids, undereye bags and the lips cos those areas need coverage so as the colours can sit better.

Besides...its safer.
I can remember sliding on the tarmac face down...if not for the full face....i think I would be missing a nose and chin right now.

cuz, u see, <fyi> im a malay n im e type who wears dat head gear on wherever i go.. so i cant use full face, cuz it'll definately makes me feel very uncomfy..
You mean tudang?
Lagi better to wear FF. Really!
We usually also try to wrap our hair and face up a bit when wearing full face.
For long trips, we wear balaclavas, that only has openings for our eyes and covers the face, head & neck.
And most of us either wear at least a hanky scraf on our hair and a coolmax cap.
it serve to be much more hygenic and keeps hair from blowing into our eyes when we ride.
I guess the problem with tudang is the decorative broach to keep it in place. You might want to consider a smaller broach or a safety pin and then put on the broach only when you reach your destination.

ViciousKitty74 06-04-2006, 11:24 AM That time hor....when I 'bua' the tarmac face down. was riding a 2B bike.
The thing about protection gears is that the shops here dont bring in a lot more smaller sizes for the females. And there is no customiszation of the breast plates!
I nearly 'bua'/scrap my breasts off also. You should see the blue blacks on them. My friends was worried that my skin and muscles will separate and turn gangrene and has to cut them away. :giddy:
I might have became a One Breast Female!
Fullface are cheap nowadays, just shop around with us or the Female Bikers and you can easily get more stuffs. :D
"bua" = rub, scrab, scrap.

ViciousKitty74 12-04-2006, 09:06 AM Yesterday, was going home.
On the way, under my block when I see a pink wave and a malay gal.....I didnt see the rider till much later.
It was a malay gal rider, with white open face helmet and tudang.
Then while I was answering a phone up at my flat and looking down at the roads and the beautiful flowering trees at my neighbouhood.
Saw another 2 ladies on a dark yellow/beige ET8 zooming by.
If you ladies are seeing this.
I wanna give a thumbs up. :thumb: Nice to see so many females riding.

Which bike shop is that? Are the boots waterproof? Only size 36? I think I need bigger sizes than that!
ViciousKitty74 13-04-2006, 10:13 AM Most bike shop stocks size 38 for men.
What size you need? I try to ask the bikeshop again.
I remember your height....you should roughly be a size 36 max liao leh.

ViciousKitty74 20-04-2006, 11:13 AM I am one of those riders that hates to put on raincoat when raining, so will continue to ride thru the rain till I reach a destination where I can then shower and change into dryer stuffs or the rain soaked clothes are dried up by the sun/heat from the bike engines.
One time, rode with my mesh armou jacket under my rain coat and pants.
Was so awkward!
Plus....raincoat does not fend off the bone chilling cold riding thru heavy downpour.
How? Any suggestion?
ViciousKitty74 02-09-2006, 06:34 AM Ladies,
I am in California USA at the moment.
Visited a Alphinestar Distributor & a Dainese Distributor these past 2 days.
They are clearing their summer gears, so most are fairly cheap.
I tried on a couple.
Me, a size 4.5 asian ladies or a size 35 Euro CAN fit into their alpinestar US Ladies size 6 riding boots or Dainese size 38 riding boots. Dainese even has US Ladies size 36 & 37. SO you gals with the mini feet! Let me know soon.
Both boots are going at US$199/-
I am aiming to come back with some riding gears. Even the summer riding pants. U want me to bring back any? Please email me at viciouskitty74@hotmail.com and state your sizes.

Well, I am allowed 64kg luggage.
You sure you want those stuffs? I need to order them quick cos delivery time is roughly 2 weeks.
let me know whether you want to order them and ship them to me to handcarry back or someone else will have to ship them to you.
tt6389 15-09-2006, 10:22 AM I wear flip up full face, synthetic leather glove, mesh jacket with hard armoured, shin & knee guard all the time to/from work. Coz when I ask any riders whether they had accidents before - every 10 riders , 10 will answer yes...unless they are fresh new riders. Worst thing can happen in a accident is permanent disability or disfigurement.
btw, when buying jacket - make sure its got cordura material at elbow & back. Coz branded stuff doesn't mean they have. Cordura is highest abrasion resistant so when you slide on the roads during accident, the fabric doesn't scrap off. Some fabric even have cordura & kevlar interwoven.
Also , buy jacket with back , elbow & shoulder armour already inside. Coz some give you soft padding only.

ViciousKitty74 17-09-2006, 02:29 PM Place is okay.
People here are super beautiful though.
And I keep getting so jealous at the sight of all those big bikes and the biker's riding gears.
They practically just leave their helmets at the bike and dont borther with locks or chains.
ViciousKitty74 24-12-2006, 02:22 PM Again.
I am going back up to Orange County USA.
Who needs Daninese riding gear?
Throttle 25-12-2006, 02:24 PM A little bit closer to topic...
It's not about simply riding with protection but being able to ride well on the roads that saves.
Generally speaking, lady riders due to laws of nature and by God's design have poorer psycho-motor skills and physical strength. Many i know are not able to handle their bike very well. (eg, negotiating turns at lower speeds, over bumps or simply slalom type riding)
As such Lady riders (in fact all riders) should not immediately graduate to bigger bikes to feed their vanity until they have the right skills.
I recently read about some beauty pageant contestant who went out to buy an R1 after she got her Class2 licence. This lady rider admittedly have problems even making simply u-turns with her bike and finds it quite a challenge to ride the R1. But becos she loves freedom, speed, blah blah blah, crap sh*t. It's becos she loves attention and vanity, which is all fine as long as you can control your bike and dont get people involved if you get into a mess.
Bottomline to me, safety riding is worth more than all the safety gear in the world.
p.s. I know some stupid fool is gonna interpret this wrongly again by rebutting that no safety gear should be worn in that case.
er... otherwise a term like poseur wouldn't hv existed
ViciousKitty74 16-02-2007, 01:00 PM Guess what, I am in USA again.
Soooo who needs ladies riding gear?
And who might want the following travelling souvenirs? They are not available in Asia.
1) Maybelline Clear Mascara
2) Revlon Fire & Ice Cologne
3) Colgate Cinamon Spice Toothpaste.

True that safety riding is essential but you can be the safest rider in the whole world and still get involve in an accident when a drunken fool of a driver suddenly bang into you while he is driving intoxicated. This is a very subjective argurment....No one can say if you wear the best safety gear in the world on you will be perfectly alrite on the road and no one can say being the safety riding with experiences like those motogo racer will be free of accident on the road. Is reallt hard to compromise between this two. Even a person who have no licencse to drive or ride also can be kill in an accident.
What im trying to say in here is that there is always a risk factor to take in wherever you do but a matter of how you justify yrself in looking at those risk and prepare for anything that might happen(touch wood lah). Not trying To promote myself but i do have lots of happening stories and mostly due to mischievous and atitiude but i have changed for the good. And though riding as always been saying the most dangerous things on road but still in my mind is always my passion to drive me in riding and even though i do have a cl3 but so what, the feeling of riding is never ever better than in driving...so what ppl may comments im toking rubbish but is just what i believe and enjoy riding.........cheers to all rider....DUN JUST RIDE BUT WEAR SAFELY TOO!!! :cheeky: :goodluck:

1) Hmm....maybe can get a dozen tubes ten. Tube forms are easier to carry around in bags and they are great since they dont contaminate & are less yicky cos they are dryer then the normal ones.
2) Bath foam and got lotion, but what I am bringing back is the cream. different formulation.
3) Okies, then I bring back more. the cinnamon ones are less harsh tasting then the normal mint or spearmints toothpaste.
4) Maybeline Clear Mascara. K. I bring back some tubes. Actually, most beauty magazines recommends using Vaseline Petroleum Jelly as clear mascara since they can do about the same job. Just need a clean mascara wand.

Of cos cannot fight the XXL series.
It merely just helps to separate your lashes and does leave panda eyes at the end of the day.
Its just clear gel that you apply with a wand brush to separate your eyelashes. Wont curl or extend the length of the lashes leh. :cheeky:

true, I tried vaseline on eyelashes before.
Instead of panda eyes, I got sticky eyebags instead.
But the maybelline wans, arent much different, maybe just not as sticky after a hot day only.

but was told not to, cos they worry about infections.
ViciousKitty74 28-02-2007, 06:33 AM Oh...and something else.
I kinda liked the Neutrogena Sunscreens found here in the USA.
Its a lotion turns to powder kinda sunscreen.
Is it available for sg?
and would you girls wear that as a sunscreen against Singapore's sun?
PinKcHicK 28-02-2007, 07:15 AM hmm, i'm too lazy to use any. But i noe sg girls nowadays do use sunscreen.. and something similiar .. (if i'm not mistaken, it's a jap brand) is selling in the mkt.

ViciousKitty74 10-03-2007, 02:47 AM I've ordered a pair of boots off www.espiritshop.com
Their clearance Buckle Boots.
Its on clearance sale and it looked tough enough to use for riding.
They previously has something like a biker boots on sale too. Too bad I didnt manage to get one before they sold out. Cheap too.
Knee high leather boots I think good enough for riding a cruiser bike.

now my hands look different colour then the rest of my arms.
am contemplating using the vaseline lotion with SPF15 for some protection against the sun.
Any ladies can share their reviews of sunscreen productions?
ViciousKitty74 08-04-2007, 03:00 PM and here's a picture of the neutrogena dry touch sunscreen i have been raving about.
pricey, but it turns to powder on skin and dont goes into the eyes to sting the eyes.

ViciousKitty74 14-06-2007, 06:23 AM have just received delivery of this pair of zip knee length boots from esprit shop.
Cost only USD49.90, shipping was USD1.50/-
I tried it on, but the boots wont zip up properly cos my calfs are too thick.
Its a US size 6. Brown leather Biker Boots actually. Its height is slightly below my knee.
Anyone keen to take it off my hands instead?

When i first started to learn riding, never put sunblock so also have diff colour on my hands.....
After a couple of waxing plus use of whitening sunblock now back to normal
ViciousKitty74 10-07-2007, 03:37 AM Was told that the Neutrogena Cooling Mist Sunblock, which I gave away to a female biker recently in Singapore was good. She is asking for another bottle because USA side is cheaper.
However, its now the summer time and that sunblock was out of stock already.
And just to boast: An article on Yahoo News recently named Neutrogena Sunblock as a good product because it blocks against UVA & UVB rays. And it contains helioplex which stablelised the sunblock for protection up to 5 hours.
And most sunblocks, w/o helioplex, should be discarded after year since they lose their effectiveness as they arent stable??? is that manufactuere gimmick to make people buy new sunblocks every year?
ViciousKitty74 11-07-2007, 12:10 PM My Cortech Riding Jacket and Fieldsheer Riding Jacket came in. And a pair of size 7 Cortech armour riding gloves came in free.
Now missing is the Tourmaster riding boots.

Anyway it's an awful fall I must say...
Do stay in dry places like aircon place to heal faster..
One misfortune after another...

ViciousKitty74 11-07-2008, 03:59 PM i remember a chitchat with a female rider.
turns out, she has the misconception that her bike insurance will cover her in a accident-Medical bills & hospitalistion charges.
my understanding is that bike insurance does not. Personal Accident policy does.
not only that....in accordance to the topic...bike insurance does not cover cosmetic surgery to remove or repair scaring....for me when i see ppl not properly attired ie in spaghetti straps or shorts riding....i feel kinda put off...not my problem but u can never anticipate when things may happen....maybe i kiasu but i rather be safe than sorry.

Girls,
I need to know where to get a good pair of gloves for daily riding (as i have sweaty palms) and a riding jacket that is good but not so hot or bulky... Any recommendations? And price range...

if you hv petite hands, you can try komini gloves & mesh jacket. price of gloves abt 70 and jacket if on sale it is abt 150 at motoworld
otherwise clover or arai mesh at chiap lee can be gd for daily riding, price wise am not sure.
blast3dGaL 13-07-2008, 09:27 PM okay.. thanks Lass... my friend giving me her komini gloves.. btw, i pm-ed you about the riding boots... ;) wish to get one... but must try first.. coz my shoe size varies from 36 to 38.. depends on cutting i guess.. but would usually fit a 37.. hope to hear from you soon..
ViciousKitty74 14-07-2008, 12:06 PM mesh jacket, i recommend rjays from ah boy's shop. bargain it down to $100!
pinetreetmh 14-07-2008, 03:09 PM sorry to sound rude.. any jacket that is not leather is useless in a real crash..
i think ppl who crashed in textile or mesh jacket will know what i mean .. the jacket will tear into shreads during the crash. but still better that no jacket at all.
Blackbeauty69 15-07-2008, 05:39 PM true.. u buy a jacket, crash(touch wood ah) and throw away. but my darz bought me a rjay mesh n glove w paddings so i have to wear... heehee........ my last 04 accident was wearing a raincoat, jam brake(i just pass, blurr sotong) just to avoid a cyclist(bicycle ok?) cut my lane 45 degres(WOW)in the 1st lane.. and to find out his DEAF! the impact cause my NEW jeans to become bermudas, tore my knee ligament, raincoat was still good but my shirt inside thorn and i have a abrasion big round ones on my shoulder as thou it was being dug! now it looks like a mushroom(yumyum)
blast3dGaL 15-07-2008, 06:02 PM So leather jacket would be better? Where to get, and price range?
But I rarely see ppl gear up sey now.. Was in the bus, saw this girl riding with denim jacket, skirt(flare one somemore) and heels...
It seems like only during touring they will gear up, other than that, like never bother only...
Blackbeauty69 16-07-2008, 12:45 AM i ever tried heels riding my s4.. it feels very uncomfortable. hard to reverse.
babyling 16-07-2008, 01:49 PM i always at least wear a jacket..at least there's SOME form of protection bah...and gloves is a must. shoes wise im normally in heels...but scootie doesn't need to chg gear so still quite ok....
Does motorworld have a good range of raincoats? I need one. haha. realised that the one i bought damm long time ago for BBDC use was too BIG. -.-"
Am considering a good basic jacket as well...any recommendations? Looking for a additional pair of gloves too. TIA!

For 1, leather jacket are expensive and hard to find one in female size.
I had one for sale but it does not come with armour.

eh.. like something i had last yr after an accident...
This was what i did...
take a safety pin, a hair pin, a nail clipper and an ear cleaner(the metal one.. i dunno wat it is called)
fist trim the nail.
take the hair pin and remove the impurities a bit.. like dig it a bit..
then i took the safety pin to peel off some of the skin...
the ear cleaner... i used it to dig deeper into the nail to get rid of the blood clot. only managed to clear half of the nail.
after that take the nail clipper and trim the nail again till only left half where the rest of the blood clot still stuck inside...
then let the nail grow for about a month.. then do the same thing.. the blue black thingy will be gone :)
after that.. its back to normal.. just that your nail will be thicker a bit..
the procedure can be quite painful..
to tell u the truth.. some tears did flow when i made a mistake and accidently clipped some flesh off while trying to trim the nail.. :faint:
Blackbeauty69 19-07-2008, 08:11 PM i always wear my glove till yest i never wear as i was travelling only for short distance, i self skidded i cant rmbr wat happen but after fall i notice there huge amount of oil on the road... lost my little fingernail n fractured my last finger... so guys wears glove at least... i've learn my lesson to wear glove even i'm travelling near....

I have a phobia about nails, though I am familiar with manicure & pedicure...
Will try to trim the nails and only wait till it drop off itself. I scared. :P
ViciousKitty74 22-07-2008, 12:35 PM BTW, I removed my right hand cast yesterday. The right hand now has lots of hair covering it where I never have hair.
The fleshy side of my right palm also disappeared so my right hand now lookls really thin.
I also cannot bend my wrist properly & still requires some work to bend it without me crying in pain.
