    Default (diy)voltage stabilizer

It seems that theres alot of voltage stabilizer in the market..Lots of voltage stabiliser out there like raizin, power abuser, vs1, ignition earth.. Some are costly some are reasonable.. If youre on a tight budget, dont wanna spend money on ready to mount voltage stabilzer and have some time to spare, im gonna show you how to make your own quality voltage stabilizer at less than 20 bucks..

The schematic of voltage stabilizer with led indicator and fuse

There are lots of website with detailed tutorial on making one yourself.. Just google diy voltage stabilzer..

    Stuff you will need:
    Pcb board, cost $1.20
    To solder all your capacitors

    Wires, cost $4.30
Dont use normal wires as it will get burn.. Use the thick one..

    Lugs, cost $2.10
to connect the wires to the battery and pcb board

The capacitor itself, cost $4.90 for 10 piece 25v 1000uf.. Im using low esr capacitor.. Anything that is 25v dc capacitor will work fine.. 10 piece makes up 10000uf which is more than normal vs like those blue raizin.. You can add as much capacitor as you like..

You will also need a soldering iron set and some screws..

Solder your connectors to the wire

Drill the pcb board and mount the wire and screw on.. I solder around the pcb board where the screw will come in contact with..

I then start to solder all the capacitor

    Its done..

Next, just find a hobby box to put everything inside about 2 bucks.. And mount it to your bike.. Positive to positive, negative to negative.. Thats all..

For those intereted to make your own power abuser ignite, power booster, ignition advance booster, spark optimizer for less than 20 bucks i will upload the tutorial soon.. It basically the same as voltage stabilizer..

Hmm, thought about replacing 5 of those 1000 uf to something smaller instead?

Kudos to you for your effort!

Ceramic ones. Think Sim Lim Tower should have them. Last i check, they do have it in stock. Kai Chin.

That will do the trick as well.. The aim is to flatten the ripples made by the alternator.. Currently im more eager to make those spark optimizer tutorial.. They are selling good and very pricey at 230 bucks for a small black box that cost less than 10 bucks.. Made a few for my friends.. See when the parts arrive i will put the tutorial up.. Its easy to make.. Once its mAde, will give the sparky away, since i cant install on my bike..

    I have a few questions...

    1) Voltage stabiliser for what?
    2) Where to connect the voltage stabiliser to?

voltage stabilizer are made of nothing much but just capacitors connected in parallel to the motorcycle batteries... capacitors are used to filter or smooth out the ripples.. you can only see these ripples of waveform through oscilloscope.. i used to mess around with it...

ac current or alternating current waveform looks like this

a rectifier is used to turn alternating current to direct current called DC.. the rectifiers made of only allows the current to move forward.. so it cuts off the bottom wave form to provide direct current

    to this

in motorcycle alternator or so called magnetic coil, it produce multiple phase waveform similar to this

after the stator coil produce its electricity from a moving magnets, the current goes through the bike rectifier.. most rectifier have common wires. 3 yellow for alternating current, 1 black for ground and 1 red for positive..

    to this

with the help of capacitors in parallel, i helps to smooth out the ripples created by the alternating current.. the green line..

    to this

in order to smooth out the current completely.. large capacitors are used to smooth out the fat wave and small capacitors are used to smooth out skinny wave.. thats the reason why some voltage stabilizer use variety of capacitor from small low uf to large high uf to get something like this

    to this

names like power enhancer, power management unit, current simulator,,, battery tune are given to this device.. most of this that is connected in parallel to the battery are JUST A VOLTAGE STABILIZER... FACE THE FACT... ive seen bikes and cars that has more than 1 voltage stabilzer of different brands that he claims to give different use.. "this is current simulator, it gives all the electrical in your bike an equal amount of current, this is raizin, stabilize the voltage, this is battery donnue what optimizer, make your battery feels like new".. when i hear him say this and saw everything connected to the battery on his gsxr1000, i feel so so so so sorry for him.. might as well save all the money buy aftermarket pipe.. more power gain..

Nice DIY job... Would feel cheated if i buy outside voltage stabilizer for 100++

U shld DIY more of it and start a CMO...

Too bad i am not with engineering and soldering background if not I would have DIY myself

The only experience i have with electronics is physics, D&T and building/modifying PCs. And i thought that capacitors their main purpose was to hold charge. Thanks all.

looks like alot of us outside is being cheated. sad case but true story. bro u shld start a CMO thread. for fun and to help other people. but how do you install it on bikes? you will need a casing to protect it from rain water going thru your seat eh?

Nbk3, nice sample, nice oscilloscope.. Most of the voltage stabilizer i see is using a normal hobby box.. You can add silicone gasket to prevent water from seeping in.. But most of the plastic box i use didnt have any water problem. Cmo??.. See how bah...

    The normal hobby box

Theres also aluminium that is quite costly.. For cosmetic looks only.. Use it for one of my project.. The plastic one still better..

Box are available in lots of size.. You can find them at sim lim tower.. Didnt see the aluminium box there..

How about ignition advancer? I can't think of how you can alter the advance w/o messing with the CDI or Pickup. And what does spark optimizer does? Seems like some fancy name for something pretty mundane.

    Please shed some light. Thanks!

Power abuser ignition advancer??.. Its basically the same product as spark optimizer and power booster.. I really wonder how the price shoot up to 200 plus when the first ever built power booster cost 30 bucks.. A concept taken from super old cars with distributer/contact point brought to the modern world.. Im very 100 percent guarranty sure these people selling dont even know how the product came about.. This product had been copied and resale many many many times.. Some even claimed that its thier own product.. Often with patent pending printing.. Explanation of the microchip boosting the power on how it works..

It only has pnp type transistor, barrier diodes, fancy leds and a couple of twisted soldered wires on the capacitors... Wheres the microchip?? Work the maths..

How it work? In modern vehicles, coils are charge before hand.. the ecu then interrupts or break the circuit to fire the spark in the cylinder.. They dont work like normal cdi whereby the capacitor in the cdi unit is charge before it discharge to the coil to fire the spark plug.. Most modern coils are built into the spark cap itself... Some call it pencil coil if im not wrong.. These coils requires time to charge.. And to reduce the dwelling time, capacitors are used.. All thanks to its discharging rate.. It doesnt alter any timing.. No advance timing at all.. To advance or retard would require a change of woodruff key, timing key, shifting pick up coils or hall sensor and the best, fully adjustable ignition module, timing map to play around with...

Eh, my meter ah, the bulbs keep blowing like nobody's business. Use the correct bulbs, not the correct bulbs also, the bulbs will blow in a matter of a few months...

Will a voltage stabiliser from the (wherever i should put it, maybe the rectifier?) prevent this kinda crap from happening?

Already my fuel light and one meter bulb blow and my electrically controlled tachometer spoil in a span of one month plus. Bloody Chinese electrics.

    sound like your regulator gone,
    its integrated in your rectifier.

China bulb.. Hard to find good quality t5 t10 bulbs.. I use led, last forever.. But my led is not the normal diy led everybody is selling in the forum which blows or spoil after sometime.. I tested many kinds of led.. From the well known seller to the cheap led.. In the end, i found the most reliable led from a friend of mine.. But it isnt cheap.. Most led here are diy.. Resistor, t5 plastic socket to mount the led and the led itself.. Even the ready made are diy.. The problem is that these led has resistor for 12v to 2-2.5v.. What happens when is that your bike varies from 10.8 to 14.4v.. So when it hits 14.4v(some 15v++), whats the voltage after the resistor?? BYE BYE LED T5 T10.. I know some will shoot me and try to prove me wrong about their led t10,t5.. Brightest led.. Blah blah.. But ive test lots of led.. Maybe i should make a thread on all my diy stuff.. Got lots of stuff you can diy and hands on..

For discussion purpose, you are using 4700u 25v capacitor. Would it be cheaper if to use a lower voltage like 4700u 16v?

16v doesnt last.. I tried the 330uf to 10000uf. It will start to give way after a year on my ybr.. Attached to my rvf or class 2 bikes, i hear fireworks and brown liquid starts to flow out of the hobby box.. Tried on the cars.. Same.. Most voltage stabilizer i opened up used 25v..

    IC, thanks for the clarification

Btw, the explanation for the use of such voltage stabilizer is to ensure a constant DC voltage out of the AC Generator. Does that means the rectifier is not doing a proper job? In another word, rectifier == voltage stabilizer?

So the best place to put a voltage stabilizer is right after the rectifier?

Yes, a rectifier converts AC to DC and from the Wikipedia, it will not produce a constant DC voltage output, a smoothing circuit or filter is required. I assume the bike manufacturers should have know this and a filter would be in place to get a constant DC.

Hence, is there any need to install voltage stabilizer? The output could be the same.

Hi ts, the negative and positive dont meet based on your welding?

Also, i have a voltmeter. With this installed, this means that the readings will be more constant?

Possible prolong the battery life and better performance and health of your electrical system and parts?
