They are all about the same.
Ever since USB3.0 HD hit the shelves, the USB2.0 HD are now selling at a discount.
A 1TB USB2.0 HD would cost about, some are even cheaper, than a 500GB USB3.0 HD.
If your PC or/and Notebook are USB3.0 capable, then naturally you should choose a USB3.0 HD.

Just to add on, if you have a Mac, have to look for hard drives that support Thunderbird. (Apple didn't like USB 3.0 for an unknown reason)

my laptop is running windows 7 and it doesn't support 3.0.
i noticed that the prices of external hard disk has been increasing ever since the flood
any good offers? IT show is coming soon right?
its estimated that june the prices will drop so maybe u shud wait a bit
i just went to challenger to buy a hard drive today. its a seagate free agent go flex 1tb with usb 3.0. its sold at $199 non member price or $188 member price.![]()
Sometimes convenience overweights the insignificant price difference. Moreover such HDs have very thin profit margin thus they are priced very competitively espeically for the latest models.
Previously, I would also shop at Sim Lim but the carpark situaton, and it being inside ERP are a big turn-off for me. I would usually waste alot of time browsing at other things which I don't need. With NEX just a walking distance from home, I would just pop over to the Challenger store there for most of my PC needs.

For Fried Rice's case, I believe you could be wrong. Furthermore, Challenger does not charge an additional 3% if paid by credit card which is a standard practice at all stores in SLS
These are taken from the latest pricelist in Hardwarezone

$119 instead of $199 for 1tb western digital my passport hard drive. but there seems to be a drawback.. i noticed the warranty is only 1 year. if i am not wrong normally its 3 years.
Its the flooding somewhere i read. The warranties are reduced from 3 years to 1. Forgot where already, Thailand or what.
Anyway, the pricelists are just a guide. If it says 199, being at the right place at the right time with the right shop can easily get you about 170++.

Ok, thanks for the recommendation. I will give it a try later![]()
@crazydj
what kind of test do i need to run regularly on the seatools to check for bad sectors or weakness?
Short drive self test?
short generic?
long generic?
advanced tests?
all these terms are very chim to me lol
maybe you might want to share your routine or something with me?
Truthfully speaking, i do not run regular tests. I only run them when i am encountering potential problems like slow load up times, program loading slowly, etc.
And i always run the full tests and they will say pass or fail. If they say fail, faster back up your data. Other than that, i recommend regularly defragging your HDD, depends on your usage. Hard disk dont normally spoil one, unless they are frequently used, with age and inherent design problems from the factory.
