FJR1300 and Fazer1000 are two rather different bikes.
This is my personal opinion:
FJR1300 is a tourer-inclined sports tourer. It is very comfortable with an upright seating position. Has a generous fairing to block out the wind nd stuff when you're going on a tour. The current model has a very short windscreen which does nothing but the new 03' FJR has a much taller (by 40mm) one which simply blocks out everything. Oh , and the windscreen height can be electronically adjust by the flick of a button. It also has pretty nifty electronics on the dashboard, and looks like it wants to fight with STX.
Also the stock panniers look damm cool , but the built quality is poor compared to STs (as mentioned by seng kwang). Cos I saw the pried open box at seng kwang, and they told me it was an easy task for the thief. A replacement of the panniers cost 2K.
As a full-faired full-blown tourer, you can guess its not cheap, the last time I enquired was about 28K OTR.
Between STX and FJR, I choose the STX becos it feels more comfy and has better fairing protection.
On the Fazer1000. It has won many MANY awards being the best bike to own for anyone. The most recent was the Rider Power No. 1 award amongst 200 over top bikes listed(the ST11 was 2nd there).
It is basically the most well-built all rounder which is totally worth every cent you spend (now 19K OTR). You can take it to everyday road riding around the city. Travel from A to B in TRIPLE quick time hehe. Pop a wheelie effortlessly with its 140+bhp. Take it on a tour to thailand with the ample fairing protection (and it is frame mounted which is much safer than handlebar mounted). If you want some thrill on the tracks, I believe many sports bikes can't even catch you with its power and excellent handling . It basically does anything you want to , its a jack of all trades (and probably a master of none hehe). Oh and it doesn't take up much fuel either.

All New For 2003:
Introducing the all-new FJR1300 - and with it an all-new class of machine: the supersport-tourer, where open-class sportbike power and chassis performance meets the luxurious comfort levels usually reserved for touring machines.
Engine:
Compact, lightweight 1298cc, DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine delivers massive power and torque (145 hp @ 8500 rpm and 93 ft.-lbs. of torque @ 6000 rpm, respectively) for an unequaled spread of muscle over a wide RPM range.
This state-of-the-art mill has been constructed using much of the advanced technology found on the YZF-R1 powerplant, including an R1-derived one-piece cylinder and crankcase assembly, which provides tremendous engine rigidity that's lighter and stiffer than two-piece designs.
Engine is a fully stressed chassis member, allowing for a lightweight frame design.
Compact slant-block engine design uses stacked, tri-axis gearbox shafts that help minimize powerplant size while optimizing chassis geometry for a low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution.
Lightweight forged pistons with carburized connecting rods provide superb strength and reduced reciprocating mass for outstanding high-rpm durability.
Patented electroplated ceramic composite cylinder bores ensure greater heat dissipation and thus reduced frictional power loss.
New-design high-compression four-valve cylinder heads are operated by compact, side-driven double-overhead camshafts, and for strong, dependable high-rpm performance the plated cylinders feature oversquare dimensions of 79 x 66.2mm.
Advanced electronic fuel injection (EFI) system is ideal for long-distance supersport-touring, delivering crisp, seamless throttle response in a variety of altitude/weather conditions, enhanced fuel efficiency and instant, choke-free starting.
EFI system features TPS, which monitors throttle position and, in conjunction with a battery of sensors (air intake temperature/pressure, atmospheric pressure, coolant temperature, crankshaft position and engine rpm), ensures precise injection intervals and timing for optimal performance.
New-design, low-vibration crankshaft features two gear-driven secondary counterbalancers with built-in shock absorbers that help deliver a glass-smooth ride with reduced rider/passenger fatigue.
Constant-mesh 5-speed transmission utilizes wide ratios to deliver relaxed long-distance touring performance combined with seamless power and acceleration.
Special scissors-type primary driven gear helps prevent backlash while greatly reducing transmission noise.
Light-action hydraulic multi-plate wet clutch provides smooth, effortless shifting, minimizing both rider fatigue and maintenance.
Gear shift shaft features a needle-roller bearing to reduce friction for silky-smooth shifting.
All-new shaft final drive system is super-durable and virtually maintenance-free, and uses new-design mechanical cam dampers in its drive pinion for quieter, smoother power delivery to the rear wheel.
New-design 4-into-1-into-2 stainless steel exhaust optimizes engine performance across the powerband and features a three-way catalytic converter and Air Induction System, making this one of the cleanest-running large-capacity motorcycle engines ever built.
Wet-sump oil system uses a new, easy-access cartridge-type oil filter mounted on the engine's left side.
Chassis/Suspension:
Hollow cast aluminum frame, featuring massive, widely spaced twin spars, is incredibly light and extremely rigid, the perfect combination for sharp, sportbike-like handling.
Fully detachable aluminum subframe helps keep weight down while permitting easier rear shock access/maintenance.
Lightweight, cast aluminum swingarm's unique design incorporates the shaft drive into its left side, ensuring superb rigidity with reduced unsprung weight that delivers incredible handling and suspension performance.
Fully adjustable (preload, compression and rebound damping) 48mm Soqi front fork with 5.4" of travel provides quick, responsive steering with excellent rider feedback in a wide range of conditions.
Adjustable (preload and rebound damping) 46mm link-type rear shock with 4.8" of travel features a handy, two-stage (hard/soft) preload adjustment lever that allows the rider to switch quickly between solo and two-up settings.
YZF-R1-derived dual 298mm front disc brakes with one-piece 4-piston calipers and 282mm rear disc brake with a slide-type dual-piston caliper provide outstanding stopping power with exceptional feel.
Cast-aluminum 3-spoke wheels wear sporty-spec 120/70-ZR17 front and 180-55-ZR17 rear Metzeler radials perfectly suited to both spirited solo riding and long-range trekking.
Adjustable, 5-position front brake lever.
Additional Features:
Highly aerodynamic full fairing is highlighted by an electrically adjustable windscreen that can be easily raised for greater wind protection or lowered for a sportier profile via a handlebar-mounted switch.
Equally sleek tailsection helps reduce drag and features a sturdy rear luggage rack/passenger grabrail.
Subframe-fitted quick-release luggage mounts provide easy use of the standard accessory hard sidecases, which come with removable inner bags and are conveniently matched to the ignition key.
Long dual seat features two-part construction using different foam densities for the front and rear sections, ensuring plush comfort for both rider and passenger.
Ergonomically shaped, large-capacity, 6.6-gallon fuel tank offers excellent comfort and range, and is constructed of steel allowing for the use of magnetic tankbags.
High-tech instrument panel delivers comprehensive display that includes an electronic analog speedometer and tachometer (both with a lightweight, R1-type step motor); LCD digital odometer, dual tripmeters, fuel and coolant temperature gauges, and clock; and lights for neutral, high beam, turn signals, low oil and engine warnings.
Sleek, R1-type cat-eye dual 12V 60/55-watt multi-reflector headlight throws an extremely broad beam for superb visibility.
Powerful, new-design dual-bulb taillight features integrated turn signals for a slick, one-piece look that's as aerodynamic as it is conspicuous.
Standard toolkit located in convenient storage compartment under passenger seat.
Very very nice bike. I know they are of different classes, but how does this bike compare to the VFR800?
The FJR1300 is a nice bike but from what I hear from friends who are riding either, the FJR is a sports tourer towards the sporting side whilst the STX is a pure tourer....
At the end of the day, these bikes have their niche...... those who want performance will op for the FJR over the STX and vice versa......
At over $32k for the STX, it is a really expensive bike heading towards the ranks of the RT and LT......just a whisker short of it...... and you are right, r1_77, there has been a recall of the STX already....just a few months after its launch........
Both give strong performances and have their strength.....however, I think the price does play an important part in the decision and in this respect, the FJR wins it....
As for the VFR, well, from what I hear, is a really nice bike to ride.....max speed of about 260kmh...... and lovely for touring.....nice riding position, nice power delivery, decent handling and overall, a good all rounder.....
Did u guys know that the Virgin company uses FJR1300 as a taxi service in the streets of U.K.? The Virgin logo is painted all over the bike.
Hi,
jux a feel of how it feels to mount and ride this bike.
Basically, this bike is is light, as compared to STs.
Driving force is by shaft, not chain.
Auto chock upon starting up of bike.
Response in throttle is good, smooth and fast, and practically can overtake most cars on road easily.
With box, squeezing in traffic can be chore.
The bike overall is stable, esp in cornering, you feel like the bike is bringing u over the corner.
One minus point, engine temp shoots easily, consider the engine capacity. Fans turns on once hit its med range (fan sound quite loud though). Headlights intensity is superb and really nice looking.
Seating posture is good and comfy, (i'm 1.76m).
Box compartment is good for one full face each.
Easy to remove box and can act as a luggage. One key for entire bike.
Soft and hard settings for suspension with the flick of a finger on the left hand side of the bike.
Overall it is a good bike.

how is FJR1300 compared to BlackBird1100, CBR954 in terms of performance, maintenace and etc.
currently deciding on which one to get.
CBR954 looks like an Mitsuibishi EVO to me
FJR1300 looks like an Lexus to me
BlackBird1100 looks like an Beemer to me
Daily riding to and fro work is less than 10km.
Weekend riding the most 20km.
Seldom travel long distance.
Cheers for any kind advises.

only cant make up my mind which to get.
riding is my passion, have been riding for 12 years. What else beats riding
when
- u wont be stuck in the traffic jam
- the breeze that flows thru your whole body
- easy parking
except
- when it pours, you have to ride extra careful
- more expensive insurance for bigger machines
RXZ is definitely out for me.

Anyway, it's a passion to own one of those 3 bigs that I have on mind, FJR1300, BB1100, CBR954. Just like everyone on this mother earth just dream to own one Ferrari as well.
But have to be realistic for myself, I can only own a replica model 1:100 of the Ferrari.![]()

With the sideboxes, cant really squeeze during jams..
Den comes the issue of the breeze.. Yes if u can travel fast.. If cvaught in a jam, the heat's gonna kill, although some feedback they dun find it a prob..
This monster is 500+ pounds... though lighter then ST13, but easily exceeds most 1000cc sports bike so reversing this ass is really a pain in the neck, not like goldwing..
Even more so if ur trying to reverse upslope...
But of course, pple always take a second look at u if ur riding FJR i feel...
Maybe its not as common as some of the big cc bikes...
From what i know, there's a thread saying that 954 is good only if u keep it accident free.. something bout the chasis of sth... of course, seems that ur quite rich so buying comprehensive ins should not be a prob for u..
As for BB, i dun find the bike attractive.. maybe u can ask someone who knows..
bottom line is, it depends whether u wan a sportier bike or one towards the touring side.. If anything goes, 954 will be best for city riding i feel..
