Next, i don't use kerosene, coz very troublesome, have to buy a metal tin from petrol kiosk, then pump in, in the end can get quite very messy.

among the few solvents, i think only kerosene and diesel are the 'safer' ones to use for chain cleaning

ppls can i ask how long do u actually change the chain and the spocket, and can i know how long is the life spend of the chain.

I know there is someone out there
I know she is waiting so patiently yeah
Can you tell me her name?

    MERGED THREAD
Topic : Question abt Wave chain & sprocket
    Description : Nil

    ********************************************************************

1)i removed the chain off my wave-s, then i found out tat the front sprocket is loose... the 2 bolts is tight but the sprocket is shaky, is it kind of 'freeplay'? normal?

2)the stock chain DID DX420 (wat i saw on the marking on the chain)... is tis o-ring or jus a normal chain?

3)how much is a stock chain cost? if i DIY buy and install myself, need to 'cut' the lenght to fit? or all wave's chain r in standard length?

    anyone?

    2) The stock DID DX420 is normal chain. O ring chain start from 428 and above only. So in order to use O ring chains on our Wave, we need to use 428 compatible front and rear sprockets as well.

    3) Stock is cheap i think about 20 maybe ?
O ring starts from about S$60 onwards for good brands like DID and RK....

    Cheers !

    1) All new chains comes with extra links. U have to cut them with a chain cutting tool or other tools.
    2) Chain lengths are not counted by cm/mm or otherwise. Thay are counted by the number of links they have. If i'm not wrong, Wave should be 110 or 115 links.

Note : I doubt u'll save much by diy or rather worse, risk spoiling ur new chain. Go and get it fixed at ur fav motorthiam.

    Cheers !

Hi Thai R and other xperts here... i got questions.

    1) do some stock waves come with size 428 chain and sprocket? cos i thinking of changing to 428 due to its thickness, i find 420 get stretched very easily. BUT i worry 428 may affect pick-up and fuel-comsumption due to increased weight... am i worrying too much? i wanna keep my wave as stock as possible when it comes to engine-related things.

    2) YBN (Yaban Chain Industrial) or DID better? a shop in JB-AGL quoted me RM65 for yaban 428HD chain and 'unknown brand' sprockets. gd deal?

    1) Stock is 420. 428 is strictly aftermarket. U will feel an initial heaviness after the first time u install the chain and sprockets. But later u'll learn to realise the efficiency in power delivery to the rear wheel. If u really wanna take good care of ur bike, i suggest u find JT sprockets and DID/RK O-ring chains to compliment ur bike.

    2) YBN ? Never heard of it. Stick with DID or RK....

    Cheers !

hi Thai R n others here...
recently i changed my chain to a size 428, i realised the mech 'cut' the chain to 102 links, the stock 420 chain previously on my bike was 104 links. for 428 wat shd be the proper length? did the mech over-shortened the chain? its working fine but i jus dont feel right...

yes, i changed sprockets to size428 to suit the 428 chain but teeth combination didn't change, same as stock (frnt 14T, rear 34T)

Hi wavers... i got a question abt sprocket size.

i travel long distance almost everyday on xpressway (tamp to jurong and back). im thinking of changing rear sprocket to smaller size so tat i can cruise at lower RPM... i assume tat that lower rev=lower fuel consumption; engine less wear and tear... am i right or wrong?

428 chains are bigger than 420 and require lesser links.

And yes u are right about lower rear teethed sprocks produce less RPM and uses less petrol.

But i dunno if u can find smaller sized rears.....I couldn't find smaller teethed JT sprocks in SG...yet.

On the average, 1 tooth on the front is equals to about 3 teeth on the rear.

    So for example :

    14F 36R = 13F 39R
    15F 33R = 14F 36R

Something like that lah.....Although that actual figure is not a perfect round figure. Got decimal points..... Go read up on gear ratio and gear ratio calculators....

Use disel to wash the chain. Take a tin, go to the petrol station pump about

5L of disel, then can keep and slowly wash in future. Use a china paintbrush,

to scrub the chain clean. Wait for it to dry, then apply the chain lube.

Err... i never wash chain, i just apply chain wax every 1000km . Will this cause the chain and sprocket to wear faster?

one set of chain and sprockets is ard RM60... so i dun even bother to maintain or apply chain wax. maybe only when i feel its too dry. and my chain is already more than 1 yr old, covered 15000km and still a lot to adjust. its just how u ride.
    c'est la vie~

I used diesel b4.Overtime,the chain becomes very slack and needed to be changed. So now i use motul chain cleaner but oso don't clean the chain to often.Just wax every 1000km will be enuf.I'm using Maxima Chain Wax.Best chain wax by far.Sets within 15-20 mins and never flings.
