Well, this is just a short review on the Nexus 300 seeing that so many bros here are interested in this bike but have many questions unanswered. Won't be touching on the maintenance part as I have only rode it for 100km. Was told by the mechanic that the maintenance is just like the Runner 200. We'll see. Total bike price almost 9k. Bought from Yew Heng.

Pros
Handling.
Handling is superb. Very unlike the Runner ST200. This baby can corner very well. Road holding is superb for a maxi scooter. Very stable at high speeds. The suspension holds up very well on uneven road. Slight bump here and there, but smooth ride most of the way.

Engine
Pick up is very very fast. Low to mid is excellent. One thing about the bike's engine is that it has a very smooth delivery. Before you know it, you are hitting 100km/h sub consciously. It is also very quiet. Pedestrians may not hear you, so have to be more alert. Although this being a 278cc maxi scooter, however I find the pickup rivals 400cc scoots.

Styling
This thing is a looker. I love it on first sight but YMMV. Head turner for sure, till I am quite paiseh. I've seen the images online, and watched videos of it on youtube. But the actual bike is a sight to behold. It looks much bigger and stylish in real life. The front fairing and windshield looks like a sports bike from the front. Overall, pretty modern and handsome looking. The meter looks awesome. 2 analog, 1 digital. There is even a useful "mode" trigger button on the right handlebar that switches different mode display on the digital meter. Very useful for quick info reading at red lights.

Underseat Storage
2 words. Very generous... as compared to the ST200. I can fit 1 full face and a 3/4 open face helmet in the storage compartment. On top of that, I can still fit in the manual booklet, toolkit, bike cover. There's also a night light that activates when you open the storage compartment. Beside the night light, there is a cigarette lighter socket that you can use to charge your handphone, ipods etc.

Build
This bike feels solid and robust. While riding, you can feel that it's built with quality. Everything feels like it should. You don't get the feeling of loose screws and loose parts. Pretty enjoyable really. It's not too heavy, but not as light as the ST200. Maneuvering the bike while stationary still requires a little effort, but the weight only makes it feel more exquisite and not cheap.

Seating/Riding posture
One word. Comfortable! I really dig the seat cushion. Bum does not feel sore after a long ride. But the width of the seat is pretty wide. I am 1.83m tall and still tip toeing on both legs. It is ok if I balance on one leg. This is a pro for me, but could be a con for shorter riders. It feels taller than the Runner but I really like the added height. Like riding a dirtbike. Shorter riders may wish to lower the suspension.

Size
The width of the bike is pretty wide. Hard to lane split. Have to be careful during traffic jams. But I really love the overall feel. If you rode an ATV before, you will know what I mean. Feels like a mini ATV with a windshield attached. Not as awesome as a Fuoco, but similar.

Cons
Speed
Yes, this bike has excellent pick up, but no top end. You can feel that the engine is being stressed at speeds reaching 140km/h. (Granted that's the highest that I've rode) Torque is negligible. I could not feel the rush at all, just very very smooth delivery. Although you could attribute that to me being spoilt by my R1 so results may be skewed. Speed demons can look elsewhere.

Meter
Yes, it looks fancy, but also hard to read while moving. The position is too low and far on normal riding posture. I had a hard time reading my speed and mileage while riding. Piaggio has to rethink this one. Maybe make it bigger, or position it higher.

Underseat Storage
My main complain since the Runner 200 days. Heat. You can dapao one Cha Siew Bao from Tuas and it will still remain hot when you reach Changi. Store your helmet in the compartment, go for a drink and come back in an hour. Your helmet will get heatstroke. Highly suggest you cool your helmet for a while after storage before you ride. The compartment heat only goes away after a few hours. No worries if you park your bike for long hours. Speaking of heat..

Engine
Thing runs hot. You can forget about opening the vents in Sunny Singapore. I was sweating even though I was only wearing t-shirt and berms and this was during the night. Could be attributed to the recent weather, but could also be a break-in issue and may go away after some time. Plan to flush the coolant and replace with engine ice. It's cooling when moving, but feels warm while stationary.

Petrol cap
Same problem with the runner. Water can seep in if parked under the rain. Yew Heng was good enough to "sponsor" me with a custom acrylic cap from Piaggio though. Thumbs up to their service!

Yup, that's about it. Overall I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Minus 1 star for the heat. Other than that, its an excellent urban commuter. Very relaxing and a definite upgrade to the Runner. Post here if you have any questions and I will try my best to answer. :)

Shoutout to bro Brembo. He was the one who recommended me to get the 300 instead of the 500. Have to strongly agree with him. The 500 is too powerful for my liking. Handling is also very stressful. 300 just nice for urban commute.

Is the fuel gauge accurate?

thank for your detail review on this sexy monster.

Is the fuel gauge accurate?

It's the same as the runner's. So far I have only used up 1 bar. I suspect the gauge will drop more rapidly as the tank is nearing empty (just like runner 200). So accuracy depends.

1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000.
Thereafter every 10,000.

Kallang a lot of shops that does maintenance for scooters. Accessories for Runner should fit the Nexus.

As I said, I am not sure about the maintenance as I have yet to do any servicing!

Windscreen a bit short for me, but probably cos I am kinda tall. But the other day while riding in a drizzle, I am perfectly dry. Not so for my gf! HAHAHA

The design is exactly the same as the new Nexus 500, so the posture should be the same.

You can msg Yew Heng. (S1 motoring).
They do trade in as well.

BTW just to clarify, I do not work for them. I also don't get any commission for any bikes sold! LOL

How much you bought your ST200? Any instalments? What plate?
You should just give Yew Heng or other bike shops a call regarding the value.

If you can afford it, go for it. But don't let the bike be a liability.
It's meant to serve you, not the other way around!

It's a bike. Not a commodity.

Nexus 300 just slightly more ex than ST200. No offence to ST200 riders, but after riding the Nexus 300, the ST200 feels like a toy bike. haha

I ride the 500, but 300 definitely sounds very practical in Singapore. I definitely love my 500, guess it's more for power-hungry people. And yup, no more 500 selling in Singapore, unless 2nd hand.

icic.. but if i really want a 500cc, got to take my class 2 tp test.. Im so in love with NEXUS!!

Yup, Class 2. Few people ride Class 2 Scoots, probably because your options are all opened! But the Nexus 500 is a sure turn-on, just like the 300, they look almost the same on the exterior.

Well FC results are in.

1 Litre to 25.2km

Not too bad.

That's good consumption. My 500 fetches between 21.5 to 24.7, depending on how i whack. Either way, it's still better than a Super 4 (in terms of fuel consumption), and it's a 500!

Actually my first option was Tmax or the Nexus 500. But the Nexus 500 seller never reply my sms nor return my calls. In the end I seek bro Brembo's advice. He highly recommend the 300. Bought it, no regrets.

For touring I think the 500 better la, but since I seldom go JB, no loss. LOL

But like you, I find Class 2 scoots super turn on. I rode R1 until pek chek last time. The heat and lack of comfort was a real turn off.

Also I suspect the FC may increase. Currently measure of 25.2 to a liter is probably due to running in procedures. But I don't think it will be that drastic. Strangely the heat issue has improved tremendously. Not as hot as the first day when I got the bike. hahaha.

All in all, very happy with this bike.

Where is your ERP unit mounted? Mine is right smack in the middle, above the handlebar, behind windscreen.

ADH should have the acrylic petrol cap. Not sure about price. You can ask Brembo.

Learn to paragraph your text man. One long chunk how to read? LOL

1L to 25km la. If 1l = 35km, then your nexus must be limited edition. 220km but petrol meter only half? Full tank mileage 500km? You joking leh bro. Your bike not gilera nexus liao.

Also there's no such thing as only a specific shop supplying stuff for a specific bike unless they are the agent.

divide your full tank capacity with you trip meter the next time you pump petrol. I think you never reset meter that's why show high mileage. 35 is out of this world. Lol. My 2nd pump i hardly reach 240km full tank. (excluding reserve.) no need change tyre yet la unless you go pasir gudang play corner. But YMMV.

Give it a few days and check if it still leaks. If not, it's probably just left overs from the mech. Don't worry too much about it.

So, now I'm thinking of getting the nexus 300.. any feedback for 2 up? Windshield high enough to buffer some wind from the pillion?

Never rode a silverwing before so can't comment. But my gf likes it a lot. Seat is comfy for her. Only thing she don't like is the height. Seat height for pillion is much higher as compared to rider and the bike is already pretty high! LOL

Storage is ok, but don't think it's bigger than silverwing!

As for windshield, the answer is a no, unless you get a higher windshield.

Maintaining at 70km? LOL

From what I know, you will have to let your rpm vary. Always maintaining at such a slow speed will only hurt your engine in the long run.

That's what I do to all my bikes in the past. No problems so far.

If you bid less than $1420, then you profit. But if COE more than $1420, you lugi. But how come got transfer fee one? I thought COE bidding is based on the closing rate?

If you bid less than $1420, then you profit. But if COE more than $1420, you lugi. But how come got transfer fee one? I thought COE bidding is based on the closing rate?

COE belonged to bike shop and so if u want their COE must do transfer lor. Hopefully COE goes down on this coming 21st July bidding.

COE about S$1320 not including transfer fee if I want theirs. But I use my name to bid the COE no need to pay for the S$100++ transfer fee.

Was in the same dilemma as you.
My situation is no rebate if Coe is lesser than prevailing
but have to pay the difference if Coe is higher than prevailing Coe
somemore have to wait till bidding.
Scared Coe rise so decided to pay the 100++ transfer fees and get the bike earlier...

Although I've not yet gotten the bike, I'll stick to 80km/h for running in. Suppose to be standard running in speed right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

er..maintaining RPM is the standard for most, but i am just not sure how it goes for CVTs..

Haha, I do believe maintaining RPMs is not the norm. You are supposed to vary your rpms / revs, apply engine braking. Just no constant redlines and sufficient bike warm ups. Same for CVTs, PSTs etc.

But hey, what do I know? I could be wrong for all you know.

Bro to be honest, why wait so long to save an unconfirmed $100 for the COE? It is simply not worth it unless COE prices drop significantly.

$100 for 10 years = $10 per year = 0.833 cents per month = 0.0278 cents per day

Judging by the past few month's COE pricing, they are always within the $1000s range. Going up since Jan.

You paid much more for your bike. 0.833 cents per month is nothing man.

You should had just gotten the bike out sooner and plan your savings on other things like accessories etc.

Time is of essence!

I'm shocked that you guys said that the brakes are alright. I've a new way of braking this powerful bike by tapping left right left right of the brakes then pull both brakes. The braking system must try an error. Now I feel that the brakes are alright. Is the technique I think.

I have no idea since I have yet to go for my first servicing.
But a little googling reviewed this.

Re-setting service icons.
If one or both of the service icons is flashing follow this procedure:
Press "MODE" and "ODO/SET" buttons at the same time. Keep pressing the buttons and turn on the ignition, after about 3 seconds, the two icons icon will light. Release the buttons.
Press the “MODE” button briefly (for less than 1 second) to select the icons in a sequence. The selected icon must turn on with a solid light.
Press the “MODE” button for more than 3 seconds to reset the selected icon;
Note that the “SERVICE” function also resets the date.

Hope that helps.

The trip meter is there for a reason. The next time you top up, divide the trip meter with the top up fuel capacity.

That should be the most accurate. Congrats if it's still 28km/l.

That was what most ppl thought all along. The fact is that, it is not true. I had bought a GTS (registered OCt2006) at $3k. Sold it for $2.5k after 1 yr. My depreciation is $500. I dont have problem selling my GTS200. I sold it within 3 days. It all depends how you sell it, where you sell it and who you sell it.

The demand especially for SYM is growing.

Hey bro I assume the gts u bought is a used one. So depriciation will not be as bad compared to the guys who bought new. I understand that scooters hae not much resale value.. The thing is how much it depricate for the 1st owner. Just like buying cars.. Well it's just my view, appreciate urs too. No offnce to anybody, we are all riders here. Brand new bike regardless of its brand/make and model, will definately have a higher deprciation value as compare to old bike. This is not only apply to Taiwaness bikes, but all bikes including Japen bikes and Euro bikes. Again, it all depends on who you sell it to, where you sell it and how you sell it.

Heh, no offence bro, but this normally applies to class 2 sports bikes. Also for Taiwanese scoots, brand new straight out of the door, depreciation at least 20% - 40%.

Try trading in a brand new one to the bike shop the 2nd day you bought it.

But for the trend of Runners, Silverwings, Tmax, etc the value is fairly consistent. I say fairly because condition of bike plays a part as well.

I concur with running man, a bare minimum of 20% applies, guess to every form of purchase, especially automobile. don't need to push back next day, you sign dotted line in the morning, push back evening same day, dealer also tell you same rate..haha This is business.

Buy at each's comfort, big or small biker, what ever make or country, as long don't give me attitude on the road are good bikers...hahha

Mine hovers around there as well. I guess it's normal. Don't worry about it.

By the way please book your servicing at Piaggio early. I had to wait 1 1/2 weeks. In the end just went to Botak.

ok here is my proper review of the nexus 300.. my previous ride is an x1r, so i was thinking of upgrading to a maxi scooter.. im torn between the 300s cc ranges. finally i settled for the nexus.. from the selection of sym joymax300 and the kymco xcitingr 300.. i used my wallet instinct in making my decision. meaning the bike price must be acceptable and also the feedback from fellow riders. brand reputation plays a part too.

sym joymax, its a nice scooter..maybe the best maxi out there.. provided im 50 yrs old and got cpf money laying ard and might get this bike to send my wife to her sewing class.. just kidding, no offence but the styling does not appeal to me. practical, yes.. but still must look good. personal preferance..

kymco xcitingr, saw this bike at the cp opp my hse.. was driving my other italian(just a fiat not ferrari :P) ride when i saw this beauty. i reversed and parked my car and went to see the bike. immediately fell in love. double front disc, nice styling and i bet a hell of a storage space.. surveyed ard and asked the price.. waaahhh!! i passed.

scoot the net, saw running mans thread... nexus 300.. now this is one practical babe. i donnoe why im stuck with italian chicks in red ;p. although some ppl said, go for the taiwan scoots, cheap and reliable.. conti bikes are so temperamental.. blah3. well driving a fiat car, i agree with them. the reason italians makes wonderful luxury sports cars cos the build is limited. they cant mass produce a decent car. ok goin off topic, but comes the decision point... i opted the nexus cos it looks good in my eyes, sits me well, and easy on my wallet.. but taiwanese belting is cheaper and servicing is also cheaper some will say.. no point arguing which is cheaper to maintain this dat... to me, i will not be calculative to sumtin that needed replacement every 10-20k.. no point, want save money, buy a wave... get my point..

well i just said my views, feel free to comment. important thing about buying a bike is.. its ur money and make sure u are happy with it. im really happy with my nexus.. be it italian, taiwanese, japanese..impt thing is, lift up dat freaking side stand man.. peace out

1. Does it come with a topbox? Some online reviews said Nexus 300 has a 33L topbox option.

2. Does it overheat easily like the X9 (esp. in start/stop traffic or jams)?

Thanks in advance.

yeah no offence to anybody or to start a stir.. peace all! i think im 80% leaning twds the nexus.. doing some calcualtions the nexus is cheaper than the joymax, in terms of bike price. so anybody fixed the top box for the nexus? i will definetely need the top box :)

Box looks awesome. How big is it? $300+ is pretty affordable, provided the rack is included.

The price is converted frm eBay. No firm pricing yet frm local distributor. Price is just for box only. metal Rack is accessories n not incl of bracket. Can view at givi website. :thumb:
There's a bracket for our bike. Btw there's a backrest too.

The backrest requires drilling on the original backplate. Not my cup of tea. But the rack and case looks good. Pricing is kinda steep though.

Have yet to chk out the price at sk. Coz still waiting the local retail price of the box n the bracket from GIVI. Going to chk the price of H&B junior box then decide. Whichever is cheaper then will take.:cheeky:
