as state at the title of the section, Bike specs & reviews is for riders to provide other rider with the relevant infos on the bikes for example, Fazer6. whereby the naked bike section is for riders of various naked bike to gather for chatting n organization of outing.

Hi guys...This is for sharing...after much searching, i've found performance enhancing parts made specifically for the Fazer 1000..Tell me what you think or if you know of others, pls share...

1 Factory Pro Jetting Kit (bought but yet to install). There's also dynojet and Ivan's jetting kit. Ivan's jetting kit requires drilling of your carb.

2 Nikko G-Pack (it's a CDI booster for the FZ1. Eliminates the RPM limitor and increases acceleration from low to mid range)

3 Akrapovic street legal titanium exhaust. There's also the Yoshi and Micron but Akra got that nice scorpion logo plus it increases the most hp compared to the other 2.

I already have the jetting kit and ordered the G-Pack...The Akra exhaust cost $1250 from southern motors...Now saving up money to get that...Probably take about 2 to 3 months before that Akra is mine...

The Factory Pro jetting kit can be bought at a number of places. Looi's motor is the Factory Pro agent in singapore so you can ask them to order for you. You can also order from Motorworld or Sporting Motors. Its costs about $150 - 180 for standard version. There's also the titanium version which uses titanium needles which last longer and is also more expensive. I got the titanium one.

The Nikko G-Pack is from France. I don't have the web address with me right now but do a google search for Nikko G-Pack and you should find it. It costs Euro $146 or something like that so it's gonna be expensive if you order direct. I suggest you ask motorworld to order for you. That time i ask, they quoted me $180 or so.

For everyone else, do share if you know of any performance enhancing parts for the Fazer.

I ask my friend...He everytime go overseas one...I ask him to buy me one next time he goes overseas...Should be around this month or next month...

Once i install the jetting kit and G-Pack, i'll post here to let everyone know the results...My estimate is i should get an extra 2- 5hp...If i get the akra exhaust(with silencer removed) as well, it might be between 4-8hp extra...WIth proper tuning, maybe even more...But don't expect your Fazer to outrun an R1...

My purpose in getting these performance parts is to increase the acceleration and get better performance...As for top speed, i don't really mind coz i think the Fazer is fast enough as it is...

For everyone who hasn't tried, the Fazer1000 can reach 180mph...Tested by myself on north south highway...However, i recommend getting a steering damper as the Fazer tends to wobble a bit after 240kmh...Especially if the road condition is not that good...

Any damper would do well...Depends on your budget really...

For me, i bought Ohlins steering damper...It's a kit and comes together with the bracket...Cost me $750/-...I consider it a good investment....

There's also Hyperpro which is selling at Motorworld...But for Fazer1000, it costs like $800 and above...Apparently i was told that the mounting brackets costs more than the damper itself...

For budget conscious bikers, a reasonably good steering damper is Daytona...However, it doesn't come with mounting brackets so you'll have to have it custom made...

Hi guys

I was down at Mah at the open house, and got introduced to the Hornet 900, as they had no promotions on Yamaha bikes. I'm just curious if anyone of u considered the Hornet before getting a Fazer, and if u did, what made u decide on the Fazer.

Appreciate your thoughts, as I'll be taking my test soon and looking forward to upgrade from my CB4. Thanks!

Hi sfowner,

I seriously considered the Hornet 900, before getting the Fazer1000. I've always wanted a naked bike and I was riding a Blackbird at that time.

I did a lot of research on the net comparing the two bikes. Both bikes were using great detuned sportsbike engines. Both bikes had comfortable sitting positions. But the fully adjustable suspension and the mini fairing of the Fazer won me over. And of cos the price was the main factor too. Two years ago the price of the Fazer on the road was abt $17500 on the road and the Hornet was abt $18800. Nearly a thousand dollars difference. I don't know the price of the bikes nowadays but I believe the Hornet is still more expensive than the Fazer. I simply didn't want to loss too much money when I sell off the bikes because after a few years the resale price of both bikes should be around the same.

The good points abt the Fazer1000 when compared to the Hornet900.
Bigger fuel tank, good fuel consumption, more power and better wind protection for long distance touring.

One last thing. There is more demand for the Fazer1000 than the Hornet900. You see more Fazer1000 on the road right.

Thanks for your feedback. Definitely have the impression that Fazer is doing better in the market here than Hornets. Maybe it's spare parts too, or just the look. I like the Fazer's looks, but it's just a bit tall for me, while the Hornet seems to fit my size better (I not too tall, just 1.66 m). Other than that, it's pillion comfort and perhaps the price.

Sankar, well said~! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I try my friend Hornet 600 before, the rear sit really crap... The rear handle bar very difficult to use, I cant hold it in high speed, is good if u carry a mei mei (girl). Without fairing, the wing blow like crazy at 180kmh... And the maintainess fee of Hornet is higher then Fazer. Hornet need 4 bottle of 4T, if I didnt wrong, and my Fazer600 only 3 bottle (even R1 also just 3 bottle, amazing Yamaha make it cheap mantainess)

BUT if compare the siting pose, Hornet more exciting, feel more combat, corning is more sharp compare with Fazer (all compare just for 600). I think is because the weight of Fazer is longer  . Fazer pose is more relax and comfortable, more suitable for touring. Top speed both almost the same, but I sure Fazer will more comfort on 200kmh. :cheeky: Because of daily use issue, so I selected Fazer. That time difficult to find Hornet 600 also.

Actually for the Fazer that's not true..The Fazer engine runs hotter than any Honda right now...Ask any Fazer owner and they'll agree with me...It runs quite hot so much so that i can even where shorts and a singlet and ride at 3am in the morning along BKE without feeling cold...Yes it's THAT hot...

But suprisingly, the engine seems to perform normally at that temperature...Dunno why leh...No matter how hot the Fazer engines get and no matter how many times the fan turns on, the engine does not overheat...

After much research, i found out that the Fazer models were designed and meant to be on sale in Europe where temperatures are colder there...But due to its immense popularity, it was decided to market the model worldwide....

But for those aspiring to be Fazer owners, fear not...Despite the engine running hot, the engine performs normally...It is designed like that

I prove this every mornign at custom jam, trust me, I just let engine on all the time, then the fan just on and off, on and off, until now, the engine never overheat. My friend in R1 and Fireblade push the bike evey morning in custom~ BUT their bike is light, is easy.

One of my friends riding Fazer installed a switch for the fan...Can turn on or off up to your liking...I'm also thinking of getting a switch...Anyone know where to get it done?

Just checking, what's the ballpark price? Cause I'm thinking between Hornet and Fazer now, either 600 or 1 litre.

After much research, i found out that the Fazer models were designed and meant to be on sale in Europe where temperatures are colder there...But due to its immense popularity, it was decided to market the model worldwide....

But for those aspiring to be Fazer owners, fear not...Despite the engine running hot, the engine performs normally...It is designed like that
yamaha is cooler. my fazer6 '04's fan ONLY ON at JB custom.

my current RR4 SG road it cant take it liao. but radiator performance is damn good.

If you are riding a thou, I can help you with the installation of the switch... If its the 600, then have to think abit cos no fan relay to play with...

PM me if you are interested. The cost of this would be the wires, switch that you use for your switch... labour is friendship...

admin charges as in some extra that you have to pay for them to process their so called troublesome paperwork for you bike... I've ever been quoted 800 bucks for admin fee, so be careful when you collect your keys...

The keys, if I never remember wrongly, has something similar to HISS, so you cannot just duplicate any normal key,. need to have a chip inside one and need to program... I know its on the naked FZ6...

yah, smthg like HISS, thk Yamaha call it YISS, same key with R1. Duplicate the key is trouble, somemore Yamaha guy need to use "special way" to "active" the key...saw K**** did it once in R1 :cheeky: He said is secret woh....

You're referring to the 600 efi Fazer...I'm talking about the 1000 carburettor...

The Fazer1000 engines run quite hot compared to other bikes in the market right now...

Apparently the type of fuel delivery system plays a part in the heat...Carburettor based motorbikes tend to run hotter than fuel injection bikes...

Hey thanks man...I'll certainly take up on your offer..But must ask you a bit first...What type of switch u using?

Is it the small metal stick type?

One of my friends installed a plastic switch with a small led indicator...When the switch is off, the led will light up if your fan turns on (normal mode)...This gives you an indication that your temperature sensor and cooling system is working fine...

Halo fellow fazer riders!

I jus collect my fazer600 and i am proud to be a fazer owner. Can feel the bike running smooth even not run-in yet. I have a few ques here n hope the senior fazer owners can help mi. :cheeky:

1) the shop's mech told mi to run-in to 3k but i saw from the manuel is run-in until 1.6k. so do i follow the mech or the manuel?

2) my fan cut in when the temp indication is at the 4th bar. is it normal?

3) the mech say that the rpm will settle down to 900-1000 plus range after the bike have warmup but jus now at the traffic lights, i happen to see the rpm at 1300plus. So wat is the normal idling rpm?

Hope someone can answer my above ques.

Great to know that there's a lot of fazer riders out there in Singapore. Im riding one fazer 600 04 model too.

up to you... I was told that when the tacho display is still blinking, its still warming up, so wait until it stops flashing then start to ride.

I dun think anyway amount of running in is necessary as long as you are law abiding. you will never exceed the recommended limits one...

Congrates on your new ride...

Hi MC21

First of all welcome to the club,ur question

1) I too follow the book 1st change the engine oil when I took out the bike then 2nd change at 1.5k then 3rd change 3k.

2) the fan start at 4th bar is normal n aft some time it will return to 3 bar, sometimes aft u off ur engine when the fan is on and then when u turn on d key again u get temp gauge full indication it is normal, the temp gauge should return to normal.

3) (rpm indicates 1300)-tats wat the book told u right,I m having my rpm at 1250-1350 after warm up, surely the yamaha don any how print and told u wrong info, right. (I try 1000 but when engage to 1st gear from neutral it was not smooth, but not so at 1300- my encounters only but don know whether others hav d same). And don forget this is still a R6 engine but detune for smooth low n mid range, after all it is still a racing concept engine.

Hope this helps enjoy your ride n do join us in future gathering to learn more....

hey CKC, something i noticed when I read your manual.

Check under the tyres pressure.

On high speed or heavy load, it recommends lower pressure, which is opposite of my manual for the 1k. Any comments on this?

And I though suppose to lower the pressure when traveling, track or heavy load cuz d air in d tyre will expand when warm up, tats wat I hear from most riders here and oversea.even my mech say tat.
But for pillion u should increase n follow d psi stated, tats wat I do.
maybe can see ur manuel and compare.

And I though suppose to lower the pressure when traveling, track or heavy load cuz d air in d tyre will expand when warm up, tats wat I hear from most riders here and oversea.even my mech say tat.
But for pillion u should increase n follow d psi stated, tats wat I do.
maybe can see ur manuel and compare.

up to you... I was told that when the tacho display is still blinking, its still warming up, so wait until it stops flashing then start to ride.

I dun think anyway amount of running in is necessary as long as you are law abiding. you will never exceed the recommended limits one...

Congrates on your new ride...
i notice this morning that my tacho is blinking during initial start and only start to ride after the blinking.

Hope this helps enjoy your ride n do join us in future gathering to learn more....
thanks for the answers!

Can anyone comment on the supposed poor mid-range for FZ6, especially when compared to the previous model? Most of the mag reviews say it's one downside of the latest model. Any comments on whether city riding suffers because of that? Very likely getting one by mth-end after my test. Comments much appreciated.

can u tell us more on wat the mags say abt this bike :cheeky:
The reviews basically comment that this bike is built much more for top-end performance, which comes only after 10k rpm. The give-up is the mid-range, so lower speed city riding requires more changes among the lower gear to keep within the power band. This is probably the way the engine has been detuned from the R6 engine, which was naturally built for top-end performance. So while it churns out more horses than the previous model, the usable band is much higher up the rpm range. This is what I gathered, and not my own views, cause I never rode the new model, only the previous one which was discontinued due to emission standards.

Anyway, just put downpayment on a 2nd hand one. Finally settled on the FZ6 as I think it looks much better than the Hornets, and also I need to pillion. I love the FZ1 too, but just felt it is too tall and heavy for my liking. Hope I pass my TP end of the month, otherwise, the bike will be sitting there and gathering dust (or worse, rust).

I hope to install an engine guard and a top box. Interested in side boxes too - can they be installed without much mod to the bike? Appreciate if anyone can share where would be good place to get one done.

Also, any other basic accessories I should consider, and where to get them?

Thanks all.

if u talk about the power of midrage, mayb the FZ6 no as powerful as FZS, but I thk tht a little bit less power u wouldnt obviously feel  BUT if u compare both bike's slower speed smoothness...then FZ6 sure win alot...bcos FZ6 is FI, FZS is carb.

High speed ah...everytime touring I was at last ( or moka will at last :cheeky: ), so I sure FZ6 can go very fast. My FZS top speed is around 230kmh...So i thk FZ6 shd faster then FZS...but mayb just abit lah (dun expect it faster then FZ1  )...

for my FZS, 200kmh still feel stable, but I have to lying down abit deal with my standard windshied. No touring every week...so thk no need to change tht, but is up to u lah~

good good.. go touring better.. shiok.. hehe..

h&b panniers are of great quality.. 1 of the super4 members has them on his.. think if the bike drop the boxes sure no problem wan.. but personally i think they are a little too wide for super4..

1 more thing abt side boxes.. u have to balance the weight in them.. eg. u cant put 1 side 10kg then the other side 5kg, get my drift? they are gonna affect your ride..

and since they open by the sides compared to lets say e21s which open at the top, during your ride it wont be easy to access your boxes for small stuff (eg gloves) unless u packed your stuff properly..

Yamaha FZ6 Fazer Wins `Best All Rounder' Award For The Second Year - November 4th 2004

Yamaha's versatile, high-performance FZ6 Fazer, took the prestigious Motor Cycle News 'All-Rounder of the Year' award at this year's International Motorcycle & Scooter Show, at the NEC, Birmingham. The Motor Cycle News Awards are recognised as the most important in the industry and for the second year running Yamaha's Fazer 600 took the prize.

MCN said: "A bike for life. If you want to ride all year round, go touring and embarrass sports bike riders on track days, nothing else will do."

The Fazer family seems to be unstoppable in this class, as the Fazer 600 and Fazer 1000 have taken this award for the past seven years.

Right from the very start the original FZS600 Fazer proved to be an outstanding success story for Yamaha. Shown for the first time at the Paris Show in late 1997, this truly versatile middleweight offered a winning blend of performance, style, easy handling and economy. The new generation FZ6 Fazer builds on the strengths of the original Fazer and offers today's riders even higher levels of engine and chassis performance combined with reduced weight, increased versatility and even more sophisticated styling. It's an exciting middleweight machine with a distinctive and original character that will deliver the goods - whether sports riding, touring or commuting. A deserving winner.

Yamaha also took a second Motor Cycle News Award with the Yamaha YZF-R1 winning the `Sports Bike of the Year' award, in the over 601cc category. MCN says "The R1 nudged its way ahead thanks to better-than-ever handling, space shuttle-like power and mind blowing brakes and suspension."

Marketing Manager Miles Taylor said "We're delighted that yet again our top performers have been recognised by the industry and Motor Cycle News. There's nothing better than having an award from motorcyclists for the bikes they hold in the highest regard, we're just delighted they chose the Yamaha R1 and FZ6 Fazer."

If you want to get hold of the award winning Fazer then now is a great time to buy, with the FZ6 Fazer retailing at £5,499 on the road and the FZ6 naked at £5,399. If the YZF-R1 is more your style, it sells for £9,399 on the road. For more information or details of your nearest Authorised Yamaha Dealer call 01932 358121 or visit www.yamaha-motor.co.uk

If anyone wants to install sliders for the FZ1, i strongly recommend getting the original sliders from Yamaha...Yes, they're more expensive but they're very sturdy...

The motovation sliders are complete pieces of crap...My friend has them on his FZ1 and on our trip to thailand, he suffered an accident...Guess what happened to the motovation sliders? The sliders didn't even slide....They got bent inwards...Apparently, the long allen key screws to secure the sliders are not very strong....They tend to bend easily even if minor accident...As such, it offers very little protection and is more likely to damage your engine if the sliders bend inwards and hit against your engine block...

The original Yamaha sliders are more expensive but they're very sturdy as they're mounted on a metal bracket which are very rigid...I'm using the original Yamaha sliders and thus far, it has saved me from expensive repairs when my backside was kissed by a car...My bike suffered almost no damage expect for slight scratches to my exhaust...The sliders did their job well protecting my engine and my tank from damage...If the sliders were motovation sliders, i'd probably have to fork out money to knock and respray my tank...

If anyone wants to install sliders for the FZ1, i strongly recommend getting the original sliders from Yamaha...Yes, they're more expensive but they're very sturdy...

Where did you get your original Yamaha sliders??

Any links for a catalogue?

automachinery also might have... else, have to wait for it to fly over... hehe...

Perhaps you should look for fairing protectors, then followed by Fairing protector's protectors... heheh... well worth investment...

Stunt cages exists. :D

It's like a crash bar for fairing bikes. The "crash bars" envelope the fairing and takes the brunt of the crash. Used mostly by stunters.

Here's one. Scroll down a bit and you'll see the pics.

If i'm not mistaken, the original Yamaha sliders costs like 180 per piece for the FZ1...Inclusive of the bracket...Maybe the price has since changed....Interested buyers can go to Hong Leong and check out the prices....
