    HI bro..

    I just got myself a K2 DL1000 as well.

Great bike, but noticed the following

1/ Flat Torque Spot somewhere below 4k rpm

    2/ Mileage - 14.5km/L?

3/ Lots of vibration from 'clutch' housing or around there at low rpm

how about ur bike...since both of us own the k2

Yea man, K2 indeed have clutch housing problem , it will take 600 buck to fix that....
but it is not a major problem....i have gotten used it some how..my mileage is around the same as yours 15-16km\L..
BTW what is 'Flat Torque Spot somewhere below 4k rpm' ??

hi all, im thinking of getting a DL1000 and need a little advice. Ive been to loois to see the bike but did not manage to get a good feel of the bike.. just sitting on it only. How's the weight distribution and handling at low parking-lot speeds? Are there any common problems? (like the Africa twin fuel pump) And how is the regular servicing and maintenance? I'm also wondering how the bike compares to the TDM and GS.

Any information at all would be much appreciated! thanks!

If you are getting a new V-strom i guess there shouldn't be nay major problem with it.

For my K2 there are a few problem which needs $$ to fix.
    1) suspects fuel pump problem, engine stall by itself while stopping
    2) clutch housing virbration problem cost ard $500 - $600
    3) wiring problem, previous owner changes to AT handle bar (higher than stock) causes the wires to stretch.

however, V-strom is still one of the value for money and powerful bike among the enduro class, it can go up to 210km\h without any modification.

The V-Strom!!!! I'm riding the SV650s 1st gen, sharing the same engine as the DL650.

Recently I got a chance to ride the bike(DL650) in a carpark, I'm amazed by the turning radius and the handling at low speed.

Now I got a little itch to be a Stromtrooper.......

    i own a dl650, k4. bought in 2004 july from looi's motor at 16k.

great bike, no problem, no hiccups.

i have added a main stand, engine guard, grip guard. just changed my spocket set and both tyres, cost me $720.

used to ride it for 1.5 yrs but stop recently as i drive more on my new car. it's now my weekend bike.

intent to keep the bike for life, even if i hav to add another one.

    milage is a good 25km/litre on SLE/TPE. 22km/litre on start/stop traffic.

it's love at first sight. tall windshield, high seating position, huge fuel tank of 22 litres, big body like the 1000cc, good looking fairing. you either love the look or hate it. i am sure not more than 10 pcs on singapore road. more will go for dl1000 instead.

pick 650 over 1000 due to maint. cost, fuel cost, road tax and insurance...

    it's powerful.

what i still love about the dl650 after these while...

    1. high seating position. great visibility. give you great confidence on the road. can get in between jammed traffic easily.

    2. high windshield. you feel that every trip is a touring trip. the wind actually gets behind your back like the st1100. i adjusted the windshield to the highest. great comfort.

    3. great look, big bike. i never washed the bike since the first day, and it still look new. it has the look of a dirt bike and tour bike, and street bike, off road... you feel like sitting on a big buffalo which has a rocket speed. you don't feel tire riding this bike. it has lots of power for you to explore. good cruising speed btw 90-110km/h. look good with a givi top box.

    4. fuel saver. a powerful yet nimble bike, save my pocket. one tank give a milage of more than 500km.

    what i don't like about dl650...

    1. the seat is too high. it took me 3 f**king months to get use to the high seating position. when i occassionally ride on it, it still take me a while to build up my confidence all over again. nearly scrap the cushion to reduce another 2 inches. it's a japanese bike built for angmoh.

    2. the bike is too huge. the top is too heavy with such a big tank, plus the fairing. i tipped the bike a few times in the beginning. so i added a set of engine guard at the bottom to balance up. now it makes the bike heavier. sh*t. but one good thing is that this bike is built to tip. no signal light or other accessories were damaged when tipped. nowadays, i tip confidently without fear.

    3. numbness experienced by the right hand. got use to it eventually.

    4. heavy top and fairing catches side wind. start to vibrate above 160km/h due size of the bike, may be. it should fall apart if it reaches 180km/h or more for 10km.

despite all these. i will never part with my dl650.

what I'm actually refering to is that not many mid cc v-twins can give that kinda mileage, so the dl650 has very good fuel consumption........

Hey bro...the dl650 is tested wif pillion on nsh of up to 180km/h wif a lil more twist on the throttle, don't worry abt it falling apart man it's a darn sturdy bike i would say. Cornering is such a breeze that i think some big sports bike would loose out esp in tight ones...wonderful bike u having there

ok... then it could be my problem and not the bike... i weigh close to 100kg. i did try 160km/h... i don't like it for long. pillion riding diminishes the power and agility. anyone try installing side box or pannier box?

i strongly recommend dl650 for fuel economy and power. it has the size of dl1000 with one exhaust less. it's more expensive though, only about 3k less than a dl1000. upfront, it sounds only right to go for the 1000. but in a longer term, it makes sense to stick with the 650.

there are not many 650 on the road compare with the bigger brother 1000.
