I also have one case. It's the yoshimura exhaust pipe. Street legal. But the street legal cert bores the name of the previous owner.

If this the case, what you're saying is that its not valid for my case, is it? I need to get it inspected and then change to my name.

In this case, where to go and get the exhaust pipe tested and certified?
u just need to go Motorworld with the docu of the street legal exhaust pipe to do a transfer which cost $15

then followby going inspection centre pay $50++ for a valid cert for you , which they will took some photo of your bike and serial number of your exhaust tag

But what about the $50++ inspection? Do i need to book the registration from one motoring website, LTA or just go there directly

jus wondering wad exactly does the headlight test require? i went for my inspection at vicom yest and the whole test is ran by the machines so i jus parked my bike there and switched on the low beam.. so the machine seeked the beam from my headlight and stopped there.. then a ' X ' appeared on the board along with the word ' LIGHT ' lighted up. and i failed the headlight test but overall i still passed.. the light coming from my headlight is dipped so i was wondering why i failed it.. maybe not enuff light?

I get mine done today. Also failed the headlight part, the guy at STA told me is to do with the headlight angle. I not very sure but a pass is a pass. Ya.. the whole process take like 5mins only. what an easy money for the center to earn money...

i realised that there are alot of unanswered questions in this thread. just thought it would be good to clarify some stuff.

1. different inspection centres and different inspectors have different set of requirements for the vehicles they check

2. there are certain mods which the authorities did not state upright whether they are allowed or not allowed. in such cases, it is purely up to the discretion of the inspector to decide whether or not to pass or fail you for those mods. example: dinosaur's extended forks. in general, if u dont make the mods look ultra obvious, chances are that they can be overlooked by the inspectors.

besides checking for illegal modifications, the purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the vehicles are road worthy. as far as i know, rusty components may not exactly be capable of rendering a vehicle becoming road unworthy. however, if rust eventually evolve to form corrosion (& result in malfunctioning of parts), then that might become a cause for concern.

with the limited knowledge i have, here are my personal opinions of the respective mods:

flush-mount signal lamps: illegal (unless they come as stock) but up to inspector's discretion.

superwhite headlight bulbs: illegal unless they produce purely only white beam. (there are aftermarket bulbs which besides giving off white color, also emits greenish or bluish or purplish kind of colors) brands like philips diamond vision are known to be approved.

stebel magnum 2 electromagnetic horns: i've personally passed the inspection at STA Sin Ming with the horn. however, pls note that i only fixed 1 out of the 2 horns that came in the package. end of it, pass or fail is still up to inspector's discretion

hope this helps

as long as the tyres are not close to balding i guess they r passable
as for how well-lubricated or poorly maintained yr chain is...it doesnt matter to them

once again, having a poorly maintained chain may result in chain snap which at the end of the day, causes inconvenience/safety hazard to yr own self

Any idea which inspection centre is the best and most 'relaxed' one?

And another question, if my road tax expires on the 14 of April, and I do the inspection one week before, does that mean I cannot renew for one year road tax?

Because the insurance also needs to match the road tax expiry date, so just wondering if there's a need to 'match' the inspection cert to cover for 1 year exactly...

As far as I know, for my last inspection at Tuas, they inserted a microphone into my exhaust pipe...

My Yoshi passed. I also knew that it wasn't that loud (after hearing other fellow Yoshi pipes)

Good luck.

1st question: You've got PM.

2nd question: First and foremost, don't worry about the inspection or its associated certificate that's produced with it. It's merely a paper that lets you renew the road tax -- if LTA says so because you've met their criteria (as mentioned below). Moreover, inspection is done at your own convenience within that 1 year window, whereas road tax is date-stamped by LTA and cannot be changed.

My bike had your problem as well: The cutoff due dates for road tax and insurance didn't match as well. I went for the half-yearly road-tax coverage. Nearing that very day of the deadline, I was made known by the LTA officer that since I went for the half-yearly coverage and that I've paid for the first-half, the renewal for the second-half needed to come with LTA's mandatory once-a-year inspection (and thus, the insp. certificate).

I was also made known of the problematic date difference: My road tax deadline -- if I were to renew half-yearly, that is -- was very offset from my insurance deadline. If I were to renew, road tax coverage would start from October 2006 to February 2007, but my insurance's deadline was on April 2007. That's 2 months wastage.

I went to my insurance company, told them that "wastage" problem, and I had my insurance extended for 2 months (paid for that) and road-tax done on the spot (with the insp. certificate, of course).

Guys, my road tex expiring in May but then I need to go for inspection as my bike more than 3yrs already and yet they haven send me any letter to go for inspection. How ar? [/quote]

To explain how the legislature works, I'll generate a favourable scenario of a person named John, who bought a 1st hand 2B bike on January 1st, 2007, for example:

Since his bike is less than 3 years old, he is not due for inspection yet (quoting Micmasta). After the 3rd year, John is expected to do 1 inspection at his own convenience (and obtain an inspection certificate) before the January 1st deadline of every year.

Within every 1-year window starting from his bike purchase date, he is also expected to pay (Class 2B) road tax of $80. Before he bought his bike, he was made known by LTA and the bikeshop that he can renew the road tax in 2 different schemes:
• 1/2 yearly scheme that lasts from January 1st to June 1st ($40).
And another renewal that will last from June 2nd to December 31st ($40) once the first half expires. (Inspection required* to renew the 2nd-half if it hasn't been done yet for that year. Roughly $17+)
• Full year (The full $80. Inspection* required at $17+)
*Why inspection, you ask? Refer to Paragraph 2

John then instructed the bikeshop what he wanted, and told them to start the road-tax application and to bundle the road tax renewal fee along with the bike price

Insurance: When he bought the bike, the insurance was included with the price of the bike, conveniently done by the bikeshop. It will start from his bike's date of purchase -- that is, January 1st to December 31st (1 year). After that date, he needs to renew it on his own.

For bikes that are old, I heard from someone that the inspection window is shorter -- this translate to frequent inspections.

Letter or no letter, if unsure on whether to do inspection/road tax, log on to www.Onemotoring.com (using your Singpass). The website will list down your bike and its associated details, including road tax, insurance, and inspection requirements. Or get in touch with an LTA officer by going to their Sin Ming branch or by calling 1800 CALL LTA.

EDIT: The government announced that the road-tax prices will fall in the 3rd quarter of 2007. Prices here reflect what was listed before that.

Don't forget to ask the shop to send your pipe for mandatory LTA inspection. You need to have a pipe inspection cert as well.
