Default [Group] Club Yamaha XJR 400/1300 (Singapore)

Anybody tried the NEW Yamaha XJR 400, seems the handling is better than Super 4. Saw some on the already. Quite chio but Super 4 got Vtec technology.

in terms of looks, the thicker exhaust and wider tank makes it look more robust and tough. Probably thinking its a 600cc when put side by side with vtec.

the ohlins rear susp shd put XJR an edge over vtec's showa setup. For the rest of the performance, no idea coz havent rode any b4.

    by comparison of specs

    XJR 400
    Bore x stroke (mm) 55 * 42
    Power (Hp/rpm) 53 / 11000
    Torque (Nm/rpm) 35 / 9500
    Wheelbase 1435 mm
    Fuel Capacity - reserve 20 l
    Dry Weight 176 kg

    Super 4 Vtec
    Bore x stroke (mm) 55 * 42
    Power (Hp/rpm) 53 / 11000
    Torque (Nm/rpm) 38 / 9500
    Wheelbase 1415 mm
    Fuel Capacity - reserve 18 l
    Dry Weight 168 kg

I've rode an XJR before, in a very big carpark, so didn't try top speed, but the handling is much more comfortable n pickup is much more smoother than a S4 Vtec.
I took my 2A in SSDC using a S4 Vtec, can feel the difference.
If I can afford, I'll consider a XJR first.

just got an xjr for myself 2 days ago. the bike is excellent. handling, cornering, shock suspension, engine is not as heated as super 4 and so forth. the look is definitely surpassing super 4 anytime. furthermore, the bike has a manual reserve switch where even if the meter is not accurate, you don't have to worry abt no petrol.

pick up is better and the pull away factor is good. engine is more responsive than super 4 although super 4's engine is a better technology. xjr is good for modification as the engine is a basic inline 4 system. top speed don't know cause still running in.

to sum it all, i traded in my vtec super 4 for this xjr beauty.

anyone has the same bike? how is the running in process?

Do not forget abt the resale value unless u r going to ride till COE ends.
This bike do not have any resale value ay all! I had calculate it, u have to ride it for at least 3 yrs to minimise ur loss!!! If u intend to ride for a yr plus and upgrade, prepare to loss at least half of the total value. Bike shops are willing to take in below $7k for this bike after a year. No doubt it has a superb setup with evil design and high performance product, budget riders still must follow the tend of getting a common bike in sgp. Riding a XJR400, definatly brings u outstanding but always to consider ur pockets 1st. No point being a slave our bike, Our bike serve us!!!
I was once on the verge of getting an XJR400, nearly bought it with bidded plate. No one can resist such elegant setup. Luckly, as a budget student rider, i decided to follow the crowd. If one day my bike ever break down in the middle of no where, i get to know the bike better enable myself to DIY. After trying shinigami bike for a moment, i was right with my decision choosing an s4. XJR does not suit ppl like me who like responsive reving and the feels of the engine does not comfort me.
For those who had the idea of buying this bike, possible get a test ride, but till now i dun c any 2nd xjr and agent do not provide test ride for bikes!!!

i doubt there's any second hand xjr in the market yet. even if there is, it has to be the older version of xjr (the pipe similar to honda project big). the new version just came in not long ago. having said that, i do agree with tongeh that the resale value of the bike is really low. But i also learnt a lesson that although we must not be a slave to our bike, we should also feel happy and satisfy with what we have bought.

A year ago when i was considering a bike for my 2b and knowing that i would upgrade after a year, i thought i would save a great deal for money buy going for a older version phantom 150 with a kick start. I told myself that i should be able to kick start for a year though phantom 200 was already on the market. After a few months of kick starting, it started to get onto my nerve. The sight of other phantom 200 owners starting their bike thru starter really make me kicking myself for having buying my bike. I dragged myself waiting to upgrade day by day. It's not a good feeling.

Now, although i know the consequences of losing money if i were to upgrade again a year later, at least i felt good riding a bike that i love with all the better gadgets. No longer do i feel jealous of other owners. I rather be happy now when i can ride peacefully than going thru similar feeling for a year.

One can argue that a year is not long at all. I agree but try doing something or ride something you don't like for a year and you will know what i mean..

    Peace ppl!

Your decision and comfort is all in your hand.

yea when i was considering whether to get an s4 or xjr many ppl advised me to get s4 due to of coz availibility of the spare parts...maintainece ... etc etc....
however it took me 1mth of much consideration and remembering someone once told me just ride the bike which u really favour and thus i realize i still prefer the xjr even now although it is disfigured wif dents here and there misalignment i still njoy riding it n proud to be an owner of tis rare species

how was your running in process? i mean what speed did you go till the first servicing which i believe is 1k km?

also, if you don't mind, maybe we could meet up and share a little info about each other's bike. that's if you prefer.

    cheers.

i live in thomson area. are you working or studying? can sms me at 98778149.

Does anyone know what are the accessories that can be added to XJR? Btw, for new owners, i was told by Yamaha service personnel that running in procedure for the 1st 1000KM is to ride not more than 5RPM.

i am really considering between a XJR n a spec 2. i need help. pls pls pls tell me again the good points of the bike against spec2. i also intend to ride the bike for more than 3 yrs so i don;t think i'll haf problems with depreceation.

then again, other than parts availability, can i also know the good points of spec 2 that XJR loses out to? fuel consumption? handling? anything? anyone? pls?

    Chuinjie,

I'm not sure abt what is the specialty on a Spec 2 but i can tell you that if you compare it with spec 1, i'll advise you to take the XJR. Why? because i used to ride a spec 1 and i swooped it with XJR just 3 weeks ago.

The difference that XJR has as compared to Spec 1

    1. Petrol Gauge - to me the manual gauge is a better indicator than the digital gauge that spec 1 had. with spec 1 i often get confused whether or not the meter was correct. at one time, it was only 270km and the digital meter start to move left and right. however at another occassion, it did not move that way until 300 odd km. the worst thing is when the meter is error and for all you know you ran out of petrol. but with xjr, you'll always feel secure because you know exactly how much more you can go.

    2. manual reserve switch - based on the above, even if the meter spoilt, you won't have to push your bike until your 3litre reserve finished. but you'll be sweating if you're on spec 1.

    3. larger tank - this will be useful if you don't wish to go in JB that often. It has 2 litre extra than spec 1

    4. ohlin shock & brembo Brakes - from what i know, these two are better than showa & nissin

    5. larger built in size

    6. Petrol consumption - A little higher than spec 1

    7. Seating - More comfy than spec 1

    8. Signal Light - different than spec 1. for spec 1, whether you turn left or right, the other bulb will still lit up. but for xjr, if you signal left, your right signal bulb will turn off.

    9. Engine Temperature - Better than spec 1. It is oil cooled and will not have future pump blockage problem like spec 1

    10. Performance - if you are looking for sports bike alike, suggest you go for spec 1.

    11. Availability of parts - xjr being new in the market, most of the parts found in the market are likely to be original yamaha parts. hence it will cost more compare to the compartible for spec 1. but this will not be a concern after sometime.

    12. Storage under seat - spec 1 will take it as it has more storage space under the seat than xjr.

Hope the above will help you in understanding better of xjr.

    cheers

during my class 2a was using this bike at cdc. i was complaining to instructor that bike very heavy, and he say super4 much more heavier. the looks very chio, taillight like R1. a lot of pple complaing saying that throttle response quite sensitive so a bit diff to do courses. but i must say acceration quite good. riding position wise...personally i dun like it cos the handle bar to high for me( used to spotbike position mah ). neway if u r short arnd 1.6m, may hav problems cos sum of my frens tip toe a bit.
the above r just opinions of a newbie 2a rider so sum of u may not agree but dun flame me lah...

eh.... the way u all say abt the bike liike spec 1 better leh... very tough decision...

    if i want:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
higher trade in value = spec 2
    sportier type = spec 2
    cheaper parts = spec 2
better fuel consumption = spec 2 ( hear frm fren )
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    brembo brakes = xjr
    ohlins shocks = xjr
    cheaper price = xjr
    bigger fuel tank = xjr
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    how? how? how?

    Chunjie,

There's always pro and cons when you buy a bike. No matter what brand and type, there are bound to have it. Just go with what you love to ride. Both are great bikes. Just different in some aspect.

Think carefully before you buy. Anyway, since you would be riding for at least 3 yrs, don't worri abt the resale value. XJR just came into the market, for all you know things may turn the other way where XJR ended with higher resale value than spec 2?

    Happy hunting

    cheers

yeah new machine. Excel is a yamaha agent. Best to ask them whether it is otr or still must include insurance, road tax and all that crap. Be careful of any hidden costs or loopholes.

What I know is min $1000/- and depends on the number that you are going to bid, more popular the amount will be higher.

Heard from some ppl around 12k go valve clearance and some belt or chain in the engine have to change. Wonder is it true. Heard from DE XING in Batok. Doubt him coz he himself not selling a XJR so he play the condem game.
