[Discussion] TA 200 Fuel Consumption

hi all just got my bike a second hand phantom custom (fx plater with 41000km on its odometer). i noticed some of the guys here posting fc of 40km/l thats alot of milage! however, i kept track of mine since my first topup n got 4.7l for 110km travelled. so thats only about 23km/l quite bad eh? any idea what the prob is?

how you know 4.7L for 110km? you sure accurate or not?

it really depend on the way u ride. if u always "blow" your pipe then of cos the comsumption will be higher. or if u add on diff accessiores then the fuel will increase due to the weight too.

anyone know the amout of fuel for full tank excluding reserve and how much for the reserve?

hailang_82: Full Tank is 11.2L if I'm not wrong. Reserve is 2.68L, thus exclude reserve is 8.52L. (As stated in Phantom TA200's manual)

first i top up until full tank. then i note the odometer reading. after about 100km, top up again until full n read how many litres filled from the fuel pump..

hmm mayb i blow quite abit n drag my gear sometimes.. i'll try to adjust my riding style. will keep u guys updated on the outcome

actually its more then 11.2L as i have pump 11.5L of petrol before. and regualr servicing and the way of riding will affect the fuel consumption greatly.

i don think we need to go into details but in general, the FC for phamton is good. Just make sure one do its regular servicing and maintain the correct riding method.

speaking of FC, I once sat on my friend's Hayabusa then he told me if that bike doesn't go above a speed limit then its wasting petrol.. forgot was it 60 or 100..hmm why's that so btw?

Davedevil: Bro, did u pump all e way up to e brim? Actually it might cause an overflow.. There's a breather pipe near e cap if I'm not wrong. Seniors pls advise.

jB: Yep! Heard a frien saying tat it was 50kmh for most vehicles. Guess it's abt momentum, weight of bike, or sth like tat..

My tank barely reached 11.2l even when the tank was empty and i hav to push to a petrol kiosk.

jB: not necessary the slower the better. somemore hayabusa had a large engine. it will be under used if ridden too slow. it's about efficiency over range.

actually another way is change a spocket with a lessen 2 teeths than the original.. dunno if anyone tried it before.. going to change my chain and spocket soon.. might wanna it..

Actually quite difficult to obtain the actual FC, but you can try by pumping up
the fuel till it touch the bottom edge of the fuel tank inlet ,record the mileage.
next time when you pump again, do the samething and record the new mileage
minus the previous mileage, divide by the litre of fuel have just pump.
you will get the FC, repeat for several rounds, you will find the FC quite stable.

i'm assuming it's the same theory as vehicles model. if we pump till the brim, there's no allowance for the petrol to expand. inturn this will harm the engine, with excessive petrol going to a waste or leaking to various components.




Avoiding high speeds on open roads results in safer driving and better fuel economy. In highway driving, over 50% of the power produced by the engine is used to overcome aerodynamic drag. Drag and thus fuel consumption increases rapidly at speeds above 90km/h. On the average, a car uses about 15% more fuel at 100km/h, and 25% more fuel at 110km/h compared to when it is doing only 90km/h.

However, this should not lead one to conclude that the lower the speed, the better the fuel economy - because it is not. The fuel consumption of an average car increases sharply at speeds below 50km/h.

if u do a lot of city riding, tts gonna increase ur FC instead.. its like pedalling from rest everytime on the smaller cogs of ur mountain bike.. damn difficult.. thus in engine terms its more fuel burnt to get the bike moving..

High fuel comsuption with short distance milage can be a result from a few key factors:
1)Low tire pressure
2)Addition heavy accessories such as side pods and rear box.
3)Poor riding techniques
4)Poor regular service record
5)Old and worn out chain and sprocket
6)Old sparkplug
7)Retune ur fuel and air intake at the caburator

The above are some of the factors which I know of.

best way to save fuel is to change ur gears early, but not too early till ur bike is getting labour...so far my worse consumption was 33L,cuz i forgot bout my eo till it got burnt away....and best was 42L...cuz i worked despatch wif it and thus i had to cover all e expressway available in sg...haha...and also remember one crucial thing...spark plug...do change it if u've got e spare cash...lyk every 20k km...and also after a new set of plug is installed tune up e carburator

Ah Koon can tune the air and fuel intake which is located at the carburator. U can ask for faster acceleration but at the expense of high fuel consumption or a slower acceleration but a lower fuel consumption. OR..still can ask him to tune back to the original factory settings.. plus minus. When I ASKED him how he could tell, he said..experience!

I know old thread but just to update. now i travel far n' fuel consumption is about 36-40 km/l. i guess the problem before wos becos of city riding + inexperienced riding. Thanks all!

i got quite shocked..
den once add top box drop to 38km/l like that..
my calculations based on constant refuelling..
visit shell like once every 3 days..
top up like half tank maybe less den half tank..

Dead means inaccurate. So im not so sure about ur FC. TA200 should have at least 30km/l if whack then 20+

Well, imo, you shouldnt do that... fully also most prob cannot go any more faster. Max for a TA should be around 130 - 140km/h .... so fast also no use, scared kenna caught... plus u should know by now that the brake isnt that fantastic... just ride smoothly and ur fc will be better, lastly, if u always whack, there is a chance that there will be piston jam. Most times, piston jam = wheel locked = you know what..... ride safe!

ok... now my FC stands at 32.9km/l... that is a little more acceptable... probably due to a change of oil... lets see how the FC stands at next pump...

First got myy bike Oct 08. A used custom 4 bike. 05 bike regd feb 06. 7k on odo.

Previous owner wasn't too much into bike TLC. Motor oil was like more than a year old. Imagine that. Dropping into first gear was a nightmare and i paid 3.3k for my *****, and its a real bad *****.

A week after i got new oils, plugs and later on got her one those K&N airfilter. She became less temperamental. i bagan to like her. Tho she was all that, she's just a 7k, 2 and a half year bike. And that is rare. So i say if she's going to be good, it's got to be my doing. So tats the way its going to be.

Fc was at first round about 34kmpl before anything done. Throttle happy - gunning at lights. Not that its very fast,... but fast enuff provoking some others...

Hey its not about racing. Those guys that hope to play will be disappointed. Its just that when you love to ride... you ride. Its the *****, you, the road and the wind. Pretty romantic is it not?

Anyways, after the improvement FC slightly gets better. goes up to 38kmpl. Then i stop gunning. Learn to cruise at slower pace. Goes 60-90kmph. Last done FC was 41kmpl.

You kno why we shudn't be gunning around??? Someone might get killed. Seriously. Anyways singapore roads you go like that, in the end no more licence.

Haiz... long winded me. Its a way of saying, this ***** i now love. What wud be nice on phantom is a bigger front wheel, maybe 19", longer fork, slightly higher bars. And actually if you notice, the parts material the got on phantom is crap really. Sad.

start plug = every how many km recommended?

just run your bike until hit reserve, once hit reserve look for petrol station ^^

from then on, you can calculate roughly full tank can last how long by the differences in odometer
