    back to the basic

    buy what you can afford...

if you buy a bike and scrimp a lot of things you will not feel happy.

its just a bike, sooner or later it will end up in scrapyard.

    Yamaha TZM 150
    Honda NSR 150 SP
    Honda NSR 150 RR
    Honda CBR 150
    Kawasaki KRR 150
    Aprilla RS 125

Speed - RS 125 wins in the speed department hands down. If you cant afford it, then it would be a tie between the 150 SP or the TZM 150. There will be a large argument on which of the two is better, so i will leave it up to you.
Comfort - CBR 125. Its a four stroker, so its not going to annoy your ears when you happily zip down the highway at 120kmh ++. Its also very light and small, another plus point.
Value - CBR 125. Four Stroke goodness. The KRR 150 can be viewed as a another value type bike as there is a ridiculously large market of stuff for the KRR than you can get for cheap, so maintainability for the KRR is very very cheap.
hi. sorry to ask u. can i ask if buying a 2nd hand KRR or CBR, which registered year should i buy so it's more worth it. cus i afraid i buy liao den alot of th nd to maintainence. den will sian liao. i'm a bike newbie. hope to learn from u more. and oso, what is stroker? how is it look like? thanks.

sp, tzm. kr all 2 strokes except for cbr150. it's the newest one also. 2 strokes require 2t and more maintenance while 4 stroke like cbr150 is easier to maintain but not as powerful as 2 strokes bikes.

can't see wat plate to buy imo. coz sometimes old bike but owner got take care vs newer production bike but owner nv take care. get my drift?

i would recommend kr over the rest though, unless u like exotic bikes like r125, rs125 or mito..

    hope this helps.

imo kr is the smoothest out of the 3 common sportbikes. i use to ride a kr and the feeling was powerful yet smoother than the other 2.

just choose whichever u like coz its u the one riding not ur frens or us.

Simple. For a 2-Stroke bike, the sound is super noisy and very high pitched. If can see ALOT of white smoke come out and super smelly. If you got hear chainsaw in operation, that is the exact same sound the bike will make. For a 4-stroke bike, the sound not very noisy and the exhaust is not so smelly. Well, this i identify a 2 stroke bike.

in the end boils down to rider more than bike. get the best bike but ride like crap also no point.

it all depends on ur luck when buying bike also... if can try to ask an experienced rider who can hear bike engine well.. its a plus point for you...

difference between kr, sp and tzm
kr = light, fast pick up, top speed cant win sp on drag(unless modded), headlight and tailight got 1 piece, mostly malay riders
sp = a bit more heavier than kr, good for cornering, faster than kr on drag, headlight and tailight got 2 eyes.. :X, moslty chinese riders
tzm= the best of both kr and sp, good handling, top speed can reach up to 220km/h, but if bike got prob, very the jialat, mostly indian and malay riders rarely seen any chinese ride tzm o.O

just to add, tzm parts seems hard to find nowadays. kr parts are everywhere though.

and most kr can eat sp on drag coz 90% of the kr in SG seems modded lol.

then again, that gives ppl who ride sp something else to think about right?

    Default Light weight, small bike?

    Hi friends.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here. I'm new to biking, just passed lesson 5 and applied for the PDL. I'll take my first lesson 6 the coming tuesday!

I'm was wondering if there's any model in the market that's light weight and small? I'm female and am rather short. Are the seat heights on all bikes adjustable according to preference when you buy the bike?

Hope for responses! I want to start saving up for a bike already and need something to work towards, thus some reccommendations to start me off cause I'm pretty clueless. =/

Ah, 750! That is quite affordable isn't it. =D
Hmm, I want to save up so I don't need to do installments. It's quite tiring to pay every month. Am working and saving now. Just passed Lesson 6, I hope I get through the rest soon! =P

I love the look of rxz! But it's 2 stroke right?

    Honda Wave 125
    Yamaha Spark 135LC
    Yamaha X1
    Yamaha 125Z
    Yamaha X1R
    Suzuki Smash 110

and all this is all that i remember from my memory alone. there are alot more out there mind you!

Speed - Yamaha 125Z hands down. Pain in the ass to maintain though, since its a two stroker.
Comfort - Comfort on a moped? A moped is for you to get from Point A to the nearby Point B quickly, and run off quickly to do your stuff.
Value - Honda Wave 125. Easiest and cheapest to mantain.
how about the Suzuki Santria/raider it has a 150cc disp. and take note its DOHC...it is build for speed... the max i speed that it took was 160Kph, Handling is great!! even on technical... check my signature for my playgrounds

    Hi,

    I'm new here.

I'm new to the biking scene, haven't taken 2B license, but did some research about bikes to get.

My main intention of getting a bike is for travelling from point A to B. But I hate the fact that the moped is the way for me to go because its fugly.
I dun know much about power yet because I haven't ridden a bike (been a pillion though) but must be 4 stroke engine.
In terms of the looks I like, leaning towards sport bike looks, but since I'll need a bike box, prolly will end up with a naked bike.
Actually, I'm eyeing the pulsar like what you recommended.
Any comments? Good FC bikes are much appreciated.

BTW, budget is <$2k (2nd-hand) but may exceed if necessary.

Thx in advance for any advise...

at less than 2k, u prob can still get a decent wave with a box.

not much choices if the budget is dat amt.
Most people go through life following the crowd.

    Others think for themselves.

    They go their own way.

try a second hand YBR. its really comfortable, and newbie friendly. Your insurance might blow your budget into the sky, though.

    Hi guys........
Still you won't decided that which bike is suitable for you.
Before buying a bike it must be considered the following points-
1-whether it is Economic or High performance
2-whether it is Two stroke or Four stroke

if you want to buy Economic bike then you go through HeroHonda or Honda.
Other wise you go through the Yamaha, Bajaj etc.

interesting thread... really useful, though quite brief...
to new license holders or soon to be license holders, read up on the various bike reviews on the bikes u are considering.

i know the search function in this forum isnt the best since most of the posts are in short form and the search engine only search for long words... but dont give up, scroll thru all the pages coz chances are, whatever ur looking for has already been brought up b4 and the past threads usually have more info then recent ones.

decide on a few choices then take a trip down to any bike shops for test ride on the bikes u wanna know bout once u get ur license. just take care not to be swayed by their salesman coz they can really talk up a storm.

for info and updates on the prices of various bikes, just look thru the used bike section of the forum for a rough gauge. (from own exp)

prices are affected by alot of things.

    year of make,
    eg. 2008 rs125 = 13k
    1998 rs125 = 1.8k
    made in where
(eg. made in japan or made in thailand, some bikes like sp are made in two countries. japan and thailand. MAY be wrong bout this.),
    diff in displacement
(eg. daelim roadwin has the normal 125cc version and 140cc version called 'x5', diff in price is 1k)
    number of owners
    types of accesories included
    types of mod included
    years of COE left
    months of road tax left
    visual condition
(dents on the tank, scrape marks on the fairing etc)

these are just some of the things to take into account when pricing of a bike is concerned.

but if u think a bike is too cheap to be true, it probably is and thats is when u should come down to the forum to ask for advice.

o ya, add to the list of sport bikes,

    cbr125
    r15
    roadwin r125
    derbi gpr125
    nsr hornet 125
    tzm 125

and to the list of naked bikes

    pulsar 200
xcd 135 (new model from bajaj, saw it in my carpark, body is like a pulsar 180 but the headlights are abit diff, model name may be sala..)
    yamaha fazer 150

    to the list of scooters

daelim b-bone (loads of ways to customise)
    yamaha fino

    scramblers

derbi (not sure of the models, but derbi has come up with a few 2b class enduro, supermotard, trail-like bikes. derbi is from barcelona if im not wrong)
    racing in traffic...

Ah, so this thread is still alive, huh.

The bajaj xcd135 looks to be an outstanding dispatch bike. Small, lightweight frame pulled by a 4 stroke 135cc engine that boasts of a fuel consumption of around 90km/l, with a tank of 10l, 900km of milleage. i am a little cynical as to whether thats really true, but it has the all important kicckstart and enclosing chainguard.

The new bajaj pulsar 180 v4 boasts of an outlook that is similar to the current pulsar 200, and clip on handlebars. I dont like it much, since it doesnt have a kickstart to fall back on, and its chainguard is now an open type. i am still using the same chain for almost 3 years now, and i would reckon its because of my enclosing chainguard, and regular lubrication with expanded engine oil.

@krusty why not? Its a good bike. Might be slower then other 200cc bikes, but with a large wheel base, its sure to be really comfy.
i assume you'll need to top up insurance and coi your brother's bike? Thats a good idea. You're brother will have a load off his shoulders, plus he gets to see his darling in good hands.

I was introduce Grand Dink 150CC(2nd hand, 7yrs COE, $4k OTR), and Suzuki AN125CC(new, $5100 OTR), can anyone advise me which is better?
Or any other scooter to intro,i'm rather short(156cm), i really need help, my budget, about $4k, if new scooter abt $5k is ok. I would prefer a 4 stroke scooter.

I am an Old Man riding a Nuovo 115 for 5 years now. It's a good bike, easy to ride, but the storage space is not big enough. Thinking of buying a new scooter (flat base) for putting Marketing stuff at the footrest. Could anyone recommend or suggest any model for me?

The problem with using import bikes like Bajaj is the some of the specialised parts i.e. fairings and engine parts MAY not be obtainable from LBS. Hence purchasing these parts can be a real hassle, not to mention prices may be a little expensive
