    Default Crime Alert 08/08 - Theft Of Petrol From Motorcycles (Update)

    Dear Motorcycle Owners,

    CRIME ALERT: THEFT OF PETROL FROM MOTORCYCLES

    Lately, there has been an increase in the number of petrol thefts from motorcycles parked at car parks. In these cases, the culprit(s) would tamper
    with the exposed fuel pipes of a motorcycle to siphon the petrol into a
    container.

    2. These thefts had predominantly occurred at the northern and western
    parts of the island, including Bukit Panjang, Jurong West, Woodlands, Redhill
    and Telok Blangah estates, and would usually be perpetuated during the night
    when human traffic is low.

    3. While the police have increased patrols at these locations, we strongly
    advise vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures to
    avoid being the next victim:

    a) Park your vehicle in a well-lit area;

    b) Secure your motorcycle with a canvas and secure it with a lock;

    c) Install an anti-theft alarm and ensure that it is always in good working
    order;

    d) Owners are also encouraged to install fuel locking caps as depicted
    below. You can buy one from most shops selling motorcycle parts or
    motorcycle workshops.

    4. If you have any information pertaining to the above cases, or wish to
    report any suspicious persons loitering at the vicinity of the car parks,
    especially when they are carrying items such as manual pumps and
    containers, please do not hesitate to contact the Police at Police hotline at
    1800 – 255 0000 or dial “999” if urgent police assistance is required.

    The above information has been reproduced with the permission of Singapore Police Force (SPF). Any feedback should be made directly to SPF at www.spf.gov.sg/feedback.htm. If you wish to report a crime, call “999” or go to any Neighbourhood Police Centre/Post or www.spf.gov.sg/epc. Nothing hereby signifies any endorsement of sgforums.com by SPF.

    Default Cck Bikers Be Alert - Petrol Theft Is Here

    Hi all cck bikers be alert. My bike parks at open carpark. Yesterday morning (3/8/08) i filled the petrol full tank (till the rim). i wasted it in the afternoon.

    This morning going to work. I didnt realise that my tank was empty. After travelling a few hundred metres, and it became very weak then it stalled.

    Then only I found out that the oil tank was empty. I filled my tank again. After paying, i found my petrol leaking from the carburetor.

    I dont known why they damaged my carburetor. There is oily hand print on the tank.

    I dont know who will be the next victim.

    i tink it is not new for petrol theft to occur in cck area
    juz need to be more careful.
    on the part of motorcycle owners, better lock the petrol tubes with cable ties or tightener to reduce chances of losing petrol.

    Hi, I live around ave 4 area. Have you reported the incident to the police for record? Also it helps to notify the other riders in your carpark, when everyone is more aware, they will be more alert to note strangers loitering in the carpark.

    If your fuel tube is rubber there is no point securing with cable tie or metal clip or whatever. You will risk your tube being cut.

    If your fuel tube is cut, there is a chance that you can't even ride to the workshop.

    If you do not have alarm, get one installed. Preferable one with a led indicator to tell the thief that the bike is armed with alarm. At least it helps to deter opportunistic thieves.

    Rempits usually need more petrol, after wasting most of theirs on burnouts.

    It's a good thing tyres are harder to steal, or they'll take them too.

    .
    I encourage all victims of theft from their bikes to make a formal police report regardless of whether you will recover yr loss or that its just a formality. The reason is that unless it is reported, the police statistics will always look good ie No report=no thefts=no crime. viz the "Low Crime is No Crime" jingo.
    Unless the statistics become so bad that it makes the power-that-be hot under the collar, they will only treat our losses as cursory only. The cop at the police post will try to dissuade you by saying its no use - they tried it on me - but stay firm and report it.

    SO, MAKE OUR NUMBERS COUNT. REPORT IT!

    Most bikes are not that difficult to steal petrol on carburetor bikes. The "reserve" knob is very visible, so are the hoses. Especially so for the lower end or naked models.

    Even new models can be stolen easily withe hoses right below the tank on latest sports bikes. once you remove the rider seat (allen key) & tank front mount nut, you can swing up the tank (like a car hood), woala...your hoses are all underneath.

    Thank You.
