hey..EO do not burn...even in the the firing chamber...
the most likely reason why engine eat EO is leakages...
EO will get eaten by leaking engine ..small drips of EO found on engine or floor..leak through cylinder and out through the exhaust..

sometimes u even find EO increase in your engine...hahahaha

couldn figure out?....suggest u do a bit of research..u will be surprise..

Problem 11: When riding, bike lean to one side. Let go of handlebar, steering was shaky and wobbling
Reason: Might be steering cone problem.
Solution: Go bike shop to get it fixed. May also need re-alignment.

    Reason: Wheel bearings spoilt.
Solution: Bike shop, get it changed.

Reason: Wheel/Rim alignment might have problem.
Solution: Bike shop, change front tyre and flatten rim.

Reason: Suspension too soft. Makes tiak tiak sound when depressed.
    Solution: Refill of suspension oil.

I've encounter this problem few months ago. managed to get it solved today by changing ALL above mentioned solutions. Damaged is $330. and 4 hrs of repair time.

Not all spoil together, but all is inter-link. If I rmb correctly, they told me is when your rim alignment is out, it stress your steering cone causing it to wear faster. With a damaged steering cone, it puts on pressure to your suspension and the tyre will take the rest of the impact after the suspension.

When you changed your front tyre, you know it's time to change your rear..

Almost forgot, went to H L Cycle to change them.

    <UPDATED : BOXING DAY 08>
Problem 1: Exhaust emitting white smoke.
    Reason:
Engine oil is leaking into your chamber.
Solution: Pistol rings needs to be changed. Go to a bike workshop.

Reason: Your bike has a 2 stroke engine.
    Solution: Its normal.

Problem 2: Engine stalls in heavy rain and unable / weak to start.
Reason: Spark plug could be getting wet by the rain causing it not not function
Solution: Remove, dry the spark plug and put it back properly. Go get the plug cap replaced.

Reason: Air fuel mixture may be too rich or lean.
Solution: Tune your carb to a leaner setting (turn screw anti-clockwise by 1/4).

    Reason: Air leakages.
Solution: Change some of the rubber parts in tank.

Problem 3: Flat / Punctured Tyres
Solution: Try to inflate tyre with portable pump / bicycle pump then go bike or tyre shop. DO NOT ride on flat tyres as they may damage your tyre or wheel.

Solution: Use tyre repair kit, plug and pump = good to go. Kit can be bought at LAB.

Problem 4: Cannot / Hard to start bike
Reason: Battery may be weak (confirmed by a tick sound from the right side cover under the seat).
Solution: Push Start, and go get battery replaced.

    Reason: Fuse may be blown.
Solution: Check Fuse. Fuse is located on right side of bike. Remove chrome cover under the seat and see. Look out for the centre of the fuse if its broken then FUSED lor. Change new one.

Reason: Bike is in gear, kill switch is on, no petrol.
    Solution: Obvious.

Reason: Rectifier issue (despite new battery, bike soon becomes hard to start again)
Solution: Get mechanic to check with a voltage meter. Ah chong has one.

Reason: Petrol topped up too full - Don't laugh.
Solution: The petrol tank is not meant to be filled to the brim. Leave some space for air.

    Reason: Water in petrol
Solution: Check that fuel cap is secure and no leaks

    Others:
    - Check ignition coil for sparks.
    - Check magneto coil.

Problem 5: Cant go more den 80 km/h
Reason: You are not in the 6th gear
Solution: Down 1 time 1st gear. up 5 times to sixth gear

Reason: If confirm no 6th gear, gear box may be in bad shape
Solution: Go to a reputable workshop for a checkup, may need to over haul.

Reason: Insufficient Engine Oil (Very bad)
Solution: Check with dipstick as according to manual. Buy Engine Oil from petrol kiosk and top up.

Reason: Clutch may have been worn off (Engine reving very high but no power to go any faster)
    Solution: Bike shop chance clutch.

Reason: Air fuel mixture too rich (Crazy vibrations at higher revs making it too uncomfortable)
Solution: Tune air fuel mixture leaner (Turn screw anti-clockwise 1/2 - 1 round)

Reason: Sprocket may be worn off
    Solution: Change sprocket and chain.

Problem 6: Weird sound on my bike
Reason: Might be battery low. (Ticking sound on right side when start button depressed)
    Solution: Push start, change battery

Reason: If sound is on gearbox side, chain may be too slack
Solution: Check your chain tension 1st. Should have about 2 to 3cm slack, tested at the center of the bottom span of the chain. Anything more, get it tightened.

Problem 7: - Exhaust Header got holes. Can repair?
Reason: Got one specific hole which is ok.
Solution: If unsure, post some pictures.

Problem 8: - Engine oil Dip stick broken (Broken part might be in engine)
    Solution:
    - Send to bikeshop.
    - New dipstick costs around $11.

Problem 9: I have tried everything but to no avail. Any tow numbers please?
    Solution:
    - 67474740 Tiko cheong.
    - 64560018 Wing Yap.
    - 97384501 => Hello, you the tua chia one?

Problem 10: Engine Part Leaking Oil
    Reason: Gasket Spoilt.
Solution: Bike shop, get it replaced

    Reason: Cam chain tensioner spoilt.
Solution: Bike shop, get it replaced

Problem 11: When riding, bike lean to one side. Let go of handlebar, steering was shaky and wobbling
Reason: Might be steering cone problem.
Solution: Go bike shop to get it fixed. May also need re-alignment.

    Reason: Wheel bearings spoilt.
Solution: Bike shop, get it changed.

Reason: Wheel alignment might have problem.
Solution: Bike shop, get it fixed.

Problem 12: Speedo is not working
Reason: The cable, or the gear at the end of the cable is spoilt or loose.
Solution: If loose, plug it back or tighten. Else needs replacement, go bike shop.

    Reason: Speedo spoilt.
    Solution: Bike shop.

Problem 13: My exhaust gives have a loud bang regularly. (Backfire)
Reason: Air fuel mixture too rich or too lean.
    Solution: Retune the carb.

Problem 14: I lost my bike Key!!! What to do??
Solution: Go find the key smith.

Solution: If want to change ignition, look for Ah Chong (Planet) or scrapyard.

Problem 15: Bike pickup super slow. Even slower than small cc cars.
    Reason: Clutch is worn
    Solution: Change your clutch plates.

Problem 16: Damaged Exhaust: Header got hole / Muffler loose or dropping.
Solution: Header got hole can weld it up.
Solution: Muffler dropping can cut open the pipe and take it out but pipe will sound louder.
Solution: Alternatively can change the whole system, pipe + header, about 300+-.

Problem 17: Hard to kick the gears
    Reason: Clutch is worn
Solution: Change or top up EO.
    Solution: Change clutch plate.

Problem 18: When cold start, bike got "tick tick" sound
    Reason: cam chain tensioner spoilt.
Solution: Change the cam chain tensioner.
Solution: If its rattling sound instead of "tick tick" sound, bring bike to mechanic.

Problem 19: Bike wobble for no apparent reason.
Reason: Might have problem with wheel bearings or tyre pressure.
Solution: Check that the tyre pressure is correct.
Solution: If tyre pressure is correct, most probably is the bearing spoilt.
    Solution:Change new bearings.

Problem 20: In Vehicle Unit (IU) Spoilt.
Reason: There is a whole lot of reason, old, water seep in, etc etc.
Solution: But a second hand IU but need to transfer name.
Solution: Buy a new IU at $155.80 w GST.
Solution: Don't go into carparks or go through ERP.

    Problem 21: Weak Battery.
Reason: Battery old. Cannot charge or hold properly. etc etc
Solution: Recharge the battery (Wet), Dry ones cannot be recharged?.
Solution: Most people change batteries instead of recharging.
Solution: If leaving bike alone for a long time, disconnect the battery to prevent further unnecessary drainage.

Problem 22: Need to step real hard for brake lights to light up.
Reason: There is a knob for adjustment, it might be loose
Solution: There is a black screw lookalike plastic knob( near the spring) located somewhere near the rear brake pedal. u can play around with the knob by turning to adjust the sensitivity of your rear brake when you apply brake.

    Problem 23: IU Spoilt.
Reason: No reason in particular. If its spoilt, its spoilt.
Solution: Inspect at Vicom. Replace a new one if under warranty. If not, have to buy a new one at about $155 (Slim).

Problem 24: Where to get visor / assesories after 6.30pm.
    Reason: No reason in particular.
Solution: Lim Ah Boy (Kelantan Lane around Jalan besar Hawker centre).

Problem 25: Can Phantom change headlights?
Reason: No reason in particular / cosmetics.
Solution: Yes. Can change and it all depends on your DIY / mech's skill.
Solution: www.pinkphantom.com - (Source to get nice headlights)
Solution: LAB - (Source to get nice headlights)

    Problem 26: Can TA150 / TA200 use 92?
    Reason: No reason in particular.
Solution: Yes. And i think it all boils down to personal preference but strictly no diesel hor....

Your balloon has a hole in it, you use scotch tape to cover the hole. It will satisfy you for now but it will still leak and leak. Picture that ;]

Hey guys, hope to get a second opinion from the "old-bird" phantom riders.
    I'm a new rider on a Phantom TA200.

Encountering a cluttering sound from the engine area.
The noise only start when going faster, i.e. past 50km/h
No noise when idling or low throttle.

Problem only appear on Monday after going to Pl***t MotorCycle to:
    1) Change Air Filter
    2) Change spark plug
    3) change O-ring
    4) Chain tighten
    5) other minor stuff, e.g. clutch cable adjust, IV bracket, brakepad, etc....

Chong test ride my bike, say its because my rear suspension is "illegal" one, too high. So after his mechanic tighten the chain, chain become too tight when I sit on the bike and cause that noise.

He did some chain adjustments for me, it now sound better, but the sound still appear when going at higher speed.
He tell me must change the suspension to original one then can solve the problem.

Hope to get second opinion from you guys.
Is it really a problem with the suspension and chain ?
How come I never have this sound before even though using the same suspension ?

Could this actually be Engine Knocking (Spark Knock) or Pre-ignition ?
Maybe because using of the new spark plug ? ($5 spark plug, cheap stuff...)

    Dear all,

Have anyone experienced repetitive sqeaking sound coming from somewhere behind or in the middle of your bike while riding?
It seems to happen to me when i have a pillion. When i ride alone, it only happens sometimes, especially when i try to negotiate a corner.
Any idea what could be the problem?
Is it wheel bearings or wheel shaft.
    My bike already 5yr old.

since you are new, have you tried oiling/lubricating your chain? Try with your engine NOT running, press/sit down on your seat and stand. Repeat that to confirm if sound is from suspension.

Might be rear wheel bearing if noise from rear. Or your suspension? Try and follow what I mentioned above to the other dude.

I would trust ah chong =)

Dun know the name - The crew cut guy, quite tanned, look like in his 40s one...

Yeah, i went back to ah chong again today.
Been there 3 times this week, Mon + Tues + Today...
One of his mechanic tell me, "hey, how come i everyday see you here ?"
(i was thinking, "of course bike got problem lor. if not what, think i got a crush on Ah Chong ah ? everyday come here and stalk him...." )

anyways, got Ah Chong to test again. Re-describe the problem to him, turns out he was hearing a different sound from me when he told me it was a chain issue...
I was talking about a cluck-cluck knocking sound from the engine/front area, while he was hearing a tick-tick sound from the chain.
told him have to wack the engine harder to hear the sound...

so Chong went out and wack my phantom till 100+.
Now he tell me its my front suspension casing knocking against the fork. (previous owner installed a steel plating/casing around the front suspension.)

I kind of believe him... Maybe because when i wack the engine hard, there is more vibration, so the sound come out.

any other bro got similar steel casing around the front fork ?
    any such problem ?

Ah chong say can remove the casing for $20 fee... but i kinda reluctant to remove, cos it looks so nice and shiny....
    Any other solution ?

Answer to your first question is Silent Hunter.... he has some sort of casing too.... can check with him...

Answer to your 2nd question, since not much of a technical problem or whatsoever, live with the noise.

    Cheers!!

It is quite chilly in these two days. My TA200 suddently become hard to start.
Now I need to hold the throttle for 1~2 minute to warm it up. Or by tuning the idle speed high.
My choke does not work. It is strange. The engine cannot keep runing if I pull the choke out. Had to increase the idle speed.
After running for 10 minutes, I have to tune the idle down.
Anyone got the same problem? The problem comes from spark plug? Or carb?
The pickup speed is still ok, similar to before.
    TA200 now.

    Just wanna highlight my case to some new pk's here;
To check regularly the wear n tear on ur front tyre according to manual. Cos steering cone replaced yest due to "below-limit" front tyre and of cos not to forget a new front tyre. So total damaged is $70 front tyre + $65 steering cone = $135. image top up another 15 can change both front n rear. So dun save abit n pay more like me... also, safety is an issue with botak tyres..

Too much of good things will be bad, but in this case it won't lead to black/white smoke emitting from exhaust. Too much would cost you a leaking gasket if I didn't remember wrongly. White smoke is because of EO + petrol, which also means piston ring area leaked it in.

icic. so even with extra EO, there wont be white smoke ya? only if got a gasket or piston problem then will have white smoke ya?

in this case, i think mine got a piston problem, cause got a weird sound at the front of engine. think nd to overhaul and change it. thanks bro. really appreciate it.

anyone knows the price of just changing piston and whats the fastest time it will take to finish repair? thanks guys.

this thread very useful... can self let a noob like me self-diagnose abit.

My TA200 suddenly having problem going faster than 100km/h.
Usually very easily can hit 110km/h on expressway,
but this few days, I throttle hard on 6th gear, engine rev high & loud, but speed like stuck at 90+ only. What's more, I've been finding it hard to kick some gears.

So, i guess the problem is this....

its either it's time to change your engine oil or maybe you can juz spray some lub onto the linkage of the gear lever. if the prob still there, then maybe the clutch plate gotto be replace.

Hi, I am ta150 rider. Recently, I had this problem:
Morning when going to work, still dark, my bike was OK.
But afternoon (3pm-6pm) when comming back from work, my bike will stall after riding for about 30min. This happen when slowing down at traffic light, just before stopping. Then after that cannot start, have to wait about 15min before can carry on home, bike will stall after 1km, then have to wait again.(normal trip-40min, now 1hr+ to reach home). At night or morning, bike can star with 1 kick.Have been having this problem for 1 week already. Anyone got this problem before? Kindly advice please...........

Just change plug 1 week ago.

check for spark....remove spark plug from engine..connect plug to your plug cap..place spark plug against engine and kick start engine..u should see spark jumping across the electrodes..(this is to confirm u have a good plug or reuse your old plug to confirm plug bad /good.)

but if engine keeps on cutting off...CDI could be the culprit..IMHO..
if it is..the engine cut off will be more frequent..

bad petrol could also an issue...drain your petrol to look out for water/sediments etc.

but if engine keeps on cutting off...CDI could be the culprit..IMHO..
if it is..the engine cut off will be more frequent..

bad petrol could also an issue...drain your petrol to look out for water/sediments etc.

Thks, mepkoh. Will try to drain petrol this weekend, just in case have to take bus to work on monday!!!!

I (with friend's help) tried taking out the carb but seem ok(shining and no scratches). I also spraied some oil(like WD40) into carb.

By the way, what is CDI? Where is this CDI, may be I can take it out to see any problem.

One more thing, do you know what is the container for?(under rider seat, between battery housing & chain, in front of rear wheel) It seem to be empty with some tubes(looks like liquid tubing) connected to it. It is white in colour (just like 2T container type of plastic).

Thks SNapEl, but I tried to increase the engine rev by turing the knot cloclwise (1 round). The engine seems roaring very loud then I open chok then the rev seems to come down. I thought this may be too much then adjust back (1 round) to where it was, then increase slightly 1/4 turn clockwise. Manage to get further (1 time of stalling to reach home) this time.

.... bro are you tuning the idle speed knob on the right side of the bike? the air fuel ratio screw will require a screw driver to tune. Did you use that? its on the left side of the bike

please do not ever put wd40 into carb....this carb is very sensitive to fluids with low evaporating volatility...there is such stuff as carb cleaner.suggest u reclean the carb..

the container with an outlet cap..reach it via removing the plastic chrome cover on the right of the seat..is the overflow tub for the radiator fluid..

CDI=condensor discharge ignition ...this is the electronics that control the spark discharge (after a pulse from the alternator is received)..at the moment have no idea how to test it...understand there is no easy way to test. unfortunately not sure where is it located...i suppose if u trace the pulse cable u will able to find it..this is most likely a black box with 2 connectors...sorry. the cdi is not cheap..maybe more than $100...

if u experience stalling of engine when engine is hot..and stall while idling ..like at traffic lights.junction etc...thses are signs of lean mix...

    causes fuel mixture too lean..
leakages of air into the combustion chamber via leaking vlaves, carburettor ,joints etc..

symptoms: bike stalling when engine is hot, spark plug electrodes will be whitish and very dry..
    normal coloour is brown..
if black and wet looking this i either too rich or from EO contamination..

if after adjusting the fuel mix jets and the problem still occurs..it is time for a check and repair at the mech..

hi mepkoh, the fuel mix jets you mentioned, is next to idling speed adjustable knot right? It is like bronze in colour right? Which way am I suppose to turn? Is it Clockwise for richer mix & anti-clockwise for leaner mix right?

Anyway, just got oil change, battery change, bearing change today but still have to stop once before reaching home. The mech told me it is the CDI that is giving me prob. If need to change will cost $200. Any recommendation about the price or good mech for the CDI? So far had spent about $150 these few days already.

    Going to eat grass liao!!!!!

hai!!!!!!! hopefully will have better luck after this!!!!!!!!

You head down to Planet Motorcycles in Ubi, you ask them to diagnose. They say change what, you change, they don't say, you don't change. Darn hard to spend unnecessary down there dude
