I think i ready to share my new SW riding experience bought Feb this year 2017. Coming from 10 years of riding a S4 with a dual compound tyres, i am not use to not having the good grip that kind of tyres offer.

Boon Siew SW stock tyre is Bridgestone Hoop B03 front and B02 rear. When i first skip a bit during wet weather riding on road marking, I thought to myself **** must be IRC tyres.

A couple weeks after, i put the SW on stand to examine the tyre to find that its actually Bridgestone. So i check the manufacturing date the last 4 digit of the DOT marking its indicated that XX16 which meant its made 2016 so the tyre is not old.

So i dive into tyre knowledge reading, I found out that i been spoil by the dual compound tyre installed into my S4 since forever. Tyre such as Bridgestone Hoop are cruiser tyre single component design for longevity. Also the run in period is also longer, about 1500km onwards. Which i find its true currently i have run it for 1700 km. The grip while not great compare to dual compound tyre is still there.

I still would want a dual compound sport touring tyres for my next tyres swap.

Just want to set the record straight don't want to anyhow blame IRC.

    Hi Fellow SW Bro,

May i ask if anyone have installed Lithium Battery on their bike? Care to share your experience?

Few points which i'm looking at:
    1) High Depth of Discharge (DOD) of Lithium battery?
The supplier recommended HJTZ14S-FP Lithium I0n Battery in replacement for SW stock AGM battery YTZ12S.
As i understand that the lithium battery discharge at higher amp as compared to the stock one.
Does it burn-out the electronics parts?
Does it mean higher rpm to recharge the lithium battery as well?

    2) Battery re-charging time / rpm (eg. 4,000 ~ 4,500 rpm)?
Shorter charging time for Lithium battery as compared to AGM battery?
Supplier claim that lithium battery can charged to 90% in 6 mins.

    3) What is your experience on the lithium battery lifespan? no. of years?
Does the battery died-out without symptoms?

    4) Any shop recommendation for cheaper lithium battery?

I am riding SW T400, and my daily rides is usually short city rides, and it seem that the AGM / Gel Type battery may not charge fast enough during these short trip, thus occasionally need to take the bike out for long ride.

    Link for Skyrich Lithium battery:

Link for Lithium vs AGM battery comparison:

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I got mine previously from Cypher, in this SBF.
Now I guess he moved to his facebook, go search Lifepower Lithium.
I think Skyrich type should be similar.

Used for 4.5 years and sold with the bike.

Now new bike also using lithium.
    Very fast charging.
No issue starting bike after 1 month no touch.

    Thanks Bro SW9000 for sharing!

Btw, if anyone have similar encounter on this as well:
Recently my SW experiencing loud noise from the rear wheel / pipe area.
It sounded like "hollow pipe noise" and "sandpaper brushing noise"..
It happened very irregular basis, but usually can hear the noise when moving off low speed stop or moving off from slope.

Brought to bike shop then no sound . Mechanic also dont know how to fix.

    All advice are appreciated. Thanks!

that is clutch slipping. just need to open up the transmission and grease the point which the clutch arms rotate and also take the opportunity to sand your clutch pads & bell. this will resolve the problem.
alternatively u can also hold your rear brake and throttle your bike to approximately 4k rpm and hold it for 10 secs. this will instantly resolve the issue.

Glad to have u in my life : ) Always love one another!

Thanks all bros for the advices.

I usually didn't warm-up bike, as i learn from bikeshop that bigger CC bike no need warm-up, can move-off like car.
The noise doesn't really occur at initial startup/moving-off, rather it happens after apx 5~10 mins of rides and especially when i'm stuck in heavy traffic (moving very slow 2.7k~3.2k rpm eg.).

I suppose the clutch slippage is seem very likely the cause too.
As i just changed belt and roller (Dr Pulley) 2 months back, and then i experiencing this issue.
Just curious that clutch slippage can occur on timing belt too? (or only V-Belt?), cos i rem Silverwings are using Timing belt.

Btw, bro confusehaha mentioned holding the rear brake and throttle - is it mean press hard and lock the rear wheel, and throttle to 4k rpm?
Or simply suppress the rear brake just to create enough resistance to smoothen the clutch?

ALL bikes must warm up lah. Even cars.
    Especially when cold start.

All engines need time for oil to warm and move around to lube the parts inside.
Go read your bike manual. They will recommend moving off AFTER the temp has reached a certain level.
Furthermore, the bike would be more responsive when fully warmed.

Just need to start the bike and then take your time to put on jacket, helmet and gloves, etc.
Or spend some time checking through for faults, especially 1st thing in the morning.

Bouncing got screeching sound = main stand needs lubrication.
Moving off got screeching sound = clutch pad or clutch bell got issue. Go get it cleaned or replaced.

Dear fellow SW bros, I would to replace the stock handlebar grips to slightly thicker ones. Was researching around and one possibility is the Kuryakyn Iso universal set 6241. It's not cheap, so I would like to find out if anyone has replaced their grips locally before I get something off the internet and risk it not fitting on my bike.

Please share some possibilities if you have come down this path before. Thanks.

the grip has a tapered shape, smaller at the inside and larger at the bar-end side... overall slightly bigger than stock but a lot more comfortable.
it's definitely not like those big fluffy ones people use on choppers

Thanks for generously sharing the information, bros. Just one more thing, I cannot locate the information of the diameter of the handlebar. The Silverwing600 forum mentioned that it is 7/8 inches. As that is a different model, I am not sure if it also applies to my FJS400D. Anyone knows the diameter of the handlebar for the local 400cc model?

Current BMW grips are not as good as the older generations. They wear out faster & tend to leave black stain on your palms when raining. Grip Puppies or Grab On Grips are thicker & comfortable. They reduce vibration transfer to hands.

Hi guys , my back tyres are coming to end of life on my SW 400 and the front still good . Any suggestion what brand to replace for both .

The stock from Bridgestone HOOP .

There is other Brand’s and a proper scooter tyre shop to go too .

I have recently fitted a Michelin City Grip on my rear and it's feeling good so far. Did it at Hua Chin for $155, not sure if it's a good price. My old tire blew up on me, had to tow and replace, didn't have time to shop around.

Bridgestone Battlax SC, much better than the Hoop. The Michelin City Grip are famous to cause shimming effect on the SW.

Thanks for sharing , I was also calling around others to find diffent option .

Any comment on Pirelli tyres , likely will change both . Will the shops balance the wheels like cars or is a optional service ?

I have change both front and back with Pirelli types model Diablo. It is much better that the stock Bridgestone model Hoop .

Just manage to run in and now the grip is fantastic and even on the white dividers it also grip well .

Was looking around on the internet for reviews of the Pirelli Diablo there is only one Hong Kong guy gave to comment on it . I am Glad I change both , also when I was at Motor world manage to chat with some clients which are also using Pirellis they all said it is great .

Now very happy with the new tyres can Conner with confident and also use it rainy days .

Oh yah ...there is the chio bu name Vaune Phan who is a biker Chick and also a bike blogger hangs around in Motor World . Hopefully can meet her in person next time .

most of us use the Diablo Scoot, cheap and good ... i've use them as far as Thailand and also up and down Cameron Highlands with no issue. if not wrong, SW9000 went thru MHS using the Diablo too.

    where to change?
i'ld recommend K&T and AC Motor.

    balancing?
most motortiam would balance only the front wheel as they do not have the balancing tool for the scooter's rear wheel.
AC Motor can do the rear... Ah Choong has the manual balancer

Suggest you go take a look at the SW Tech Corner... lots of useful info there

I'm considering switching to Direct Asia or FWD insurance, as both seemed cheaper than traditional AXA,Mitsui or NTUC.

Appreciate if anyone can share their experience if any. Thanks

I have been using Directasia ever since they started in Singapore. I love that they are so easy to buy and contact. So far I have not have issues. I have not claimed anything with regards to bike but for travel I have claimed before and it was hassle-free. Right now there is FWD and Budgetdirect as well. For me, both are still more expensive than Directasia. So I'm sticking to Directasia for now.

IT all depends on how good the SW is, you got extra cash, mileage, exterior look etc, etc etc.

i was looking and looking for either SW or Maxsym and when I saw a good deal for this SW, i quickly grabbed it.

i notice currently many SW owners tend to renew their COE for the next ten years and using it for another year , then sell it. mine is like that.personally, i would not renew for 5 years as i find the SW engine is super good even those that have gone 250k km. of course, being a regular buyer of second hand bikes, i knew that the bike would not be perfect. i changed the steering cone and engine oil.
then i remembered about SW forum in Singaporebikes. have been reading the discussion from 2009 onwards. many good tips.
Good luck to your decision wait4me.

sad to say, no more new, off the box silverwing. best option look for the last one bought by fellow riders. i may be wrong. i have seen SWT 400 FBJ plate. i am really enjoying my sw which i bought 7 months ago but it is the older model. i like the newer model sound but i still prefer the old model bec its light is singular .
good luck in locating your scoot.
