Madman is probably tied up in the logistics of a certain 30-bike convoy due to launch this coming weekend...

$75 set of Givi boxes for sale in the buy & sell thread.

Looks like a nice deal for the 2 givi side boxes.. can the bracket be bought seperately outside? is the installation easy?

Don't bother with the cost of the racks, they don't cost $100 and there are many ways to mount them. Can even get from scrapped bikes, repaint and use good as new.... for less than chicken rice cost?

Buy first and enjoy the $105 savings :3

Try getting from used parts bin from Planet, Koon, etc. Might even give you for free.

And lol I like the bike without the top box. Cars stay far away from "fat" bikes!

Good practise to put some moisture absorbent matting in the side box. It's not completely waterproof.

Maybe some rose scented air fresheners next :3

I should mount the '***** on motorcycle' sign.

But right now the cars stay well clear of the big fat bike with the rose on the windscreen so I'll behave. For now.

Finally got it up with a simple L bracket. It doesn't feel secure but looks ok externally.

For the exhaust side, do u guys put anything at the base of the saddle to protect it fm heat & soot?

Hey...what's the max weight which you guys have put your side boxes under?
I see from the sticker inside which says max 3kg, my laptop + bottle of water = around there already.

10kg of groceries, each side. So much food, I have problems eating everything over the week.

That's why I used cable ties, pulled very tight, into a sort of sailship-style rigging, to pull the side box structure taut against its mountings and the rear footrest assembly, securing it in 3 dimensions.

Left 'hanging', the boxes are only stabilised by a pair of screws on the subframe.

ya if it says 3kg best to keep it max at 3kg lor, if overshot abit nvm bah... but dun exceed the limit too much and leave it for long period of time, its plastic, possible to break or mechanism fail ...

Not really a common commodity, since racks like it or not, are semi-permanent fixtures.

Can ask around at bike shops. Secondhand ones will do so long as the screws are good (replace if rusty) and are structurally sound.

Default need reccomad for bigger rear box

I am planning to get a bigger rear box to hold two full face helmets. There is one around 42 l on my bike now, yet it is bit small. It can just hold one helmet. I am not sure about the brand of this box, seems like " LTD".
Any reccomandation for a bigger one? Do I need to change the rack too? Where to get it and what is the price (the thread show 80-300, the range is too much)? I dont mind a second-hand one either.
    THank you

All saddlebags are water resistant at best. If you ride/park your bike in a huge rainstorm, Water is going to get in.

For saddle bags, there's basically 3 kinds right?

The hard tanker kind Givi E21 i think
    The hard leather type,
and there is a soft leather too right?

i'm thinking of changing away my rear box for 2 saddle bags, just to hold raincoat + slippers...

Any idea if saddle bags will affect the ability to cut traffic?

I've no problem cutting through traffic with 2x E21s without signal light relocation (this issue of side clearance is Phantom-specific. With the stock signal location the panniers need to be mounted an inch off the rear struts). I'm as fast lanesplitting my bike as I was on my Yamaha cub, the reason being the fatter rear end matches the handlebar width. (note: this is NOT a lanesplitting vs following behind cars discussion)

So if the front fits, your rear will as well. The panniers are also low enough that I can slot myself through little gaps beside non-functional EPS gantries. They will also go under any and all car mirrors unless the car beside you is a Lotus Elise. Just try to give vehicles greater side clearance nonetheless, as they will get freaked out when they see large boxes coming at them!

You just need to try and get used to the effect of carrying large side loads (if you ever use the bike for house-moving or cargo hauling like me) because it does have some effect on very-low speed handling. Once up to countersteering speed where the wheels have enough gyroscopic force to make the bike self-stable, there's little penalty in handling.

    Terminology:

Hard cases like E21 or equivalent are usually termed "panniers" or simply "side boxes". They are tough enough to function as rear crash armour.
Saddlebags come in leather (pinkphantom.com, or the cheaper variety at LAB) or fabric (Komine). Material hardness depends on design. The Komines are great, being expandable but can't be locked?

    Hey guys,

I got a pair of Givi E21 side boxes for my phantom from a forummer. Now I need the bracket to mount it on the main rack. Anybody wants to sell? Or can anyone guide me where to find it and what would the price be?

    Cheers,

    Unhappy How to install Saddlebag

    Hi guys,

something tells me a similar post exists but i can't seem to find it despite using the search.

I just got my first bike today, Phantom TA200.

Bought some saddle bags but i don't seem to have the right tool to remove the 3 screws that fit the seat.

I am also trying to remove the frame that holds the storage box at the back of the bike, but don't seem to have the right alan key.

Could really use some expert advice.

    Thanks!

Buy the proper set of tools if you wana. Removing of the box isnt needed. You can drape it over. Unless you wana remove it.

When i bought my phantom it comes with the phantom tool kit which i assume will be enough to deal with simple phantom related servicing. idk abt it cos i didnt really need to screww or unscrew anything. perhaps the previous owner didnt hand the tool kit over to u?

The phantom's tool kit is useless. Only useful to remove some of the easily accessible screws. Like the seat. The spark plug removing socket is useful. But try removing the front sprocket cover and you will know what I am saying. I had to use another spanner that had a round tip instead of the regular spanner to remove the front sprocket cover.

To @glenj, you can just take your bike to a friendly mechanic and ask him to lend the Alan Key and you loosen the bolts your self and then you can come home and remove it on your own. I used this technique when the screw that was securing the top box's base plate had become loose and was almost coming off.
