on a seperate note , i just started wearing ear plugs with my FF 3 days ago...the first day was weird as the noise level dropped by at least 80% , but 2nd ride onwards was ok ... strongly suggest those who dun wear an earplug to do so , makes the ride more enjoyable.

it is a personal preference, for quieter bikes such as phantom (provided that you didn't tong your pipe )

for bikes with larger engines especially when their engines are in a high state of tune, wearing ear plugs becomes a health issue...

I think buying ear plugs is a worthwhile investment as damage to your ears is often irreversible and cannot be detected until the later and more severe stages. Good earplugs manufactured for motorcycling do not totally block out sound! Most only block out high dB noise such as the whine of the engine and windblast; things which are not essential to your safety on the road.

I ride all the time with earplugs. It blocks out ambient noise & makes riding much more comfortable.

As for helmets, I have an open face, a mushroom half-cap & a flip face. My preference is still the open face.

I used to have the sony ericsson's headphones on both with FF, found it dangerous so I have only one side on or have both on with lower volume..

Curious, can you still hear with your OF and earplugs? or is it still audible about your exhaust or engine? Never tried earplugs before..

Personally, with the plugs, I feel that I still have enough hearing to judge traffic. It gets rid of all the ambient wind noise. I'm used to it already.

I wear it with my other helmets too

Yeoch! I thought it'll be as good as total shut off. Curious about how "silent" the Arai and Shoei FF would be. I also wonder how the MotoGp riders take it when theirs are so much louder than normal 4 strokes and higher pitch than 2 strokes Still would be good that you can hear something, in case this month you shut your ears and can hear someone speaking in your ear

There are not any ear plugs can shut off all noise.
Neither can any helmet outperform earplugs in terms of noise attenuation.

The 3M foam earplugs I use has a 28dB attenuation. That filters noise down significantly. Loud noises (e.g. car horns) can still be heard, but not so piercing.

On a sidetrack, what FF helmets do you guys recommend in the range of 200-300? I just want to spend moderately to get a good helmet, and save for the other essentials such as leather jacket, gloves, boots etc

That budget is well enough to get any decent FF. Go to the shops to try yourself, different shells for different heads, padding perferences. No need chiong for a specific brand, it's more important that it fits and comfortable.

It's always heartening to know a new rider who's into protections. Jia you!

When I wanted protection back then, nobody knew I was into it. even my dad said I am crazy if I wanna save up for a at least 700+ Shoei or Arai when he paid only $50 back then

Ya, 103 is flip up. For those who doesn't wear spectacles, go for FF in all case.

I wear specs, would a FF helmet pose problems?

I'm more and more convinced that I should get a FF after reading this thread.

no flip ups for me regardless of how cheap or good the brand is I'm bespectacled.

No problems with fullface, unless you're a wuss and squats down to pee like Women do, which you most likely aren't and don't.

    I hope

I just went out for a night ride with my fullface and wrist length gloves, feels good, would be better if I had a cl2 fairing bike

usually specs dont pose much of a problem wearing full face..
some oakleys like mine frame @ the 2 legs fatter..
either change the inner cushion to slightly thinner..
or if can take the pain.. haha..
new shark flip up.. looks good.. under $400..
looks good though nt psb approved..

Fitment could be uncomfortable depending on your head, spectacles and the helmet that you choose.
You probably won't enjoy the full range of free choices in the market.
Go with what suits your needs + comfort & convenience levels.

I never did find a full face helmet that would fit all my needs (including budget), so I went with a flip-up. But I still prefer an open face for the convenience. Its all up to your personal choice.

I'm just worried that the FF will be difficult to put on and take out. I will just have to go down to the shops to try the FF, or else I'll just get a better flip-up. Because my current one doesnt cover my chin.

Those little pebbles hitting my chins, even the lips, get really irritating.

Try them, they're comfy and hugs your face so nicely :] If you buy a flip up, might as well settle for a psb approved open face

your chin is being hit by pebbles because your head is raised too high

You mean try the FF? yeah i plan to do that.

Open face is the normal kind where its just a visor covering your face right? That's what I am using now. No no. I wear my helmet properly, and I am looking straight. But the clear visor screen does not cover my chin. It reaches just to my lips area, slightly above.

Any of my good riding buddies wanna buy my SHOEI helmet?
    Size is "M" I think.....

This helmet carries very sentimental value to me. It was choosen and hand over to me brought down from the shelve by our fellow biker "Hart" some years back.

Need no reply here. You know where to look for me and tell me how much you have in your wallet and it may be yours :-)

    Cheers!

    my routine:
    open face = wear liner(beanie type), wear helmet;

ff = tk out specs, wear liner(same as abv, or either balaclava), wear ff, wear specs.

otherwise for ff, wear contact lenses. if got $$, go for lasik = no more spec wearing.

flip up would be slightly more convenient for rider who wear specs but of cos fullface is the better option.. open face doesnt provide any protection to your chin..

Your visor should cover your face till your chin, you should take a picture of yourself and we'll see

I also got open ears pattern.
Once the FF helmet in, use finger to slide the ears to open or close eays.

i will definitely go for the fullface..if not everytime go pass tp they see my face sure pull me over...check license .. heard for asians it's better to use arai.. as it's a jap brand and the fitting is better for asian heads..(rounder) helmets like mhr agv bla bla ..is mostly designed for european/american heads..(sharper/ovaly)..which wouldn't fit us so well..i guess..so yea i do belive arai is the best!! for full face at least...ive got 2 arais a astro j and a profile..and they have served me well..haha
