What's stopping you?? U really can't find another class 2 carb thumper liao. Newer models all efi and too 'modern' looking like the FMX650 or the yamaha XT660.

Hope someone will reply to this. I'm changing my suspensions cause they are probably overdue. COE is expiring in 2019 and will be renewing it for the third time. Any ideas would it be better to just service the suspensions or completely change them. Don't really do much of trails or long distance travels.

Sold mine couple months back and missing the thumper.

If I were you and would be renewing COE, I would like to invest in a new set of shock. It'll last longer than servicing I reckon. Then again, do send it to a check before changing to confirm if it even needs a change.

Thanks for the reply bro. Riding this bike, I rarely go to workshops except to service it which is like once a year cause it's a lightly used commute bike. Where's the best place to get the suspensions done i.e. checked and replaced. (probably would need replacing though cause it's like a water bed). Is Jimmy still at the same place near Sim Lim Sq? Used to go to him many years ago but the location is just way out.

Hi...how's your project coming along? I just completed the simple rebuilding of my bike; powder coating the frame, re-do the top head, service the front forks and rear suspensions, seat cover.

Still thinking how to go about renewing the plastic Acerbis tank.

Just finished rigging up the Acerbis plastic tank. What is it that needs renewing????

Got a leaky head as well, so ordered a new set of gaskets for the whole engine(might as well) and 4 tappet covers (looks rounded off).
Squeaky sound from the rear. took the shocks off to rebuild and put it back on, still squeaky so ordered a new bunch of needle bearings for the swingarm as well as the rear suspension linkage area.

Shift lever seal busted and leaking oil. WAS suppose to be a simple job but the previous owner welded the lever to the spline. so now i have to slowly and carefully grind it off...arghhh...

Powdercoatd the exhuast as well as washed and re-tuned the carb. previously it always tend to stall at traffic lights or during idle. after 2 weeks of fine adjustments it's running as sweet as ever!

so many things.. so little time.. haha

My tank has faded so need to sand it down to bring alive the original colour. That's some work you had to do. You DIY?

Am looking at getting an oil cooler to reduce the bike temp as well.

Unfortunately i lack the time to DIY so i let the shop handle the jobs. But i monitor the works closely. For the tank u can use those platic shine sprays. I tried and they last a good few months.

Woah this thread is still alive!
anyway im a proud owner of a 1988 RD02 that i got nearly 4 years ago, i must really say that although the cost to rebuild the bike is relatively high but the satisfaction of riding her around is priceless.
Anyway guys, anybody letting go of any legal after market exhaust for this bike as Unique Motorsports told me that the exhaust is discontinued.

    Let's keep this thread alive!

hey steven, u still have that dakar fairing up for grabs??
yea.. slowly restoring her up to her former glory.. hah..
Talking about exhaust i thought the arrow's and gpr's are legal? u can probably get it online and ask the shop to fix it up for u. from my knowledge for inspection u just need the authorisation letter from a workshop to say that it was "bought" and installed there; provided the model is ald LTA approved.
I was lucky when i got the bike it came with a stan tune exhaust. previous owner told me it is "inspection friendly". well i will know come sept!
    haha.

hey steven, u still have that dakar fairing up for grabs??
yea.. slowly restoring her up to her former glory.. hah..
Talking about exhaust i thought the arrow's and gpr's are legal? u can probably get it online and ask the shop to fix it up for u. from my knowledge for inspection u just need the authorisation letter from a workshop to say that it was "bought" and installed there; provided the model is ald LTA approved.
I was lucky when i got the bike it came with a stan tune exhaust. previous owner told me it is "inspection friendly". well i will know come sept!
    haha.
hey im not Steven here although hes my buddy for the past 20years

hmmm didn't know that we can just buy the exhaust online and den get it inspected here straight, i will look that up and see if its feasible.

anyway have fun restoring her as ive spend quite a bit jus to restore and maintain her thru this 4 year ownership (already spent more than what i paid for her liao n still rolling), all i can say that she's damn reliable, starts on the 1st crank (usually) every morning and the only time where she let me down was a flat batt ( not her fault right? ), im enjoying her each n every moment till the stage where i would pick her anytime over my Harley ( yes! poor thing ), but i try to ride them on alternate days usually to work. Am already planning a southern Thailand trip with her next year liao.
