Default Why is RSAF flying lower nowadays?

We've been facing this since 2001 but lately its been getting worse and worse since Jan 2010...

Videos shot by my neighbour at our neighbourhood.

same here.... imagine being disturbed by those noises from your sleep after working through out the night before. your side is still not as bad as mine. you heard lesser noises as the plane are landing with less throttle applied. my side is much much worse. imagine a damned fighter jet taking off with its engine full thrust flying and banking over your roof top?...sometimes with afterburner on ! i wish i could have a gatling gun mounted on my windows and shoot it down to vent my anger!

We are situated right at the end of Jurong west st 25 ...
Our flat is positioned before the Tengah Airbase Landing strip...
We can see the landing from the rooms, kitchen and common corridor/lift lobby...
we're not allowed to shoot the air base for sure but if u can see planes coming down with white smoke on the tarmac, imagine how close is that?
They'll start flying ard 9am it can go on til 11pm.
Worst period will be few weeks before National Day,

Any where that we can lodge complaints? Calling police is useless

during my days in NTU, classes and lectures were often interrupted by those f-16s. actually those jets approaching runway during landing were not so noisy. the worst, which i've seen (and heard) were f-16s doing 'tom cruise's buzz the tower' style flybys... the sonic boom could cause classrooms and LTs in NTU to actually shake!

Would that constitute an "Act of War" against the state? A nation's own citizen shooting down her own military hardware for causing a nuisance.

Sometimes you see a lot of low fly actions is because kuku pilots are training how to land - their wheels touch the runway and immediately throttle up and fly up again.

Btw, heard that RSAF fighters fly everyday.

I had witnessed american pilots with their F15 eagles executing a 180 degree turn with sharp banking as they descend rapidly which means they were close to start point of the landing strip. I always see our pilots had their radome aligned with the landing strip before they starts descending. see the differences?? Their RSAF recruitment advertisement "ABOVE ALL" is too much of boasting of it's kind.

soon it won't be american. our own F-15SG will be brought back to sg this year and RSAF pilots will be "revving" them hard... at the same area where TS's neighbour shot the video clips. its gonna be TWIN-ENGINE power compared to single engine F-16s. more noisy years ahead!

wa allen^key, you rsaf personnel ah?

well i understand TS's plight... but we do not have much choice do we? We have not much place to fly around.. and whats more, msia that time took back certain part of our air space thus making things harder for the rsaf..

not trying to take side, but the planes really got no choice leh.. unless got leg then can off the engines and bunny hop to land lor.

imo, i think the taking off part is worst... because it involves a larger force and more power. Landing still ok...

if all else fails.... look for the MP lor. but for national security.. the mps will most prob heck your complain...

noisy but seeing the f15 flying and sometimes B2 really amazing.

but they seldom fly at night..

Jurong West St 25 and JW St 64 are straight in the descending path of the planes using Tengah.
Not much you can do about it unless Tengah Airbase shift

One consolation is at least they are descending, and not taking off, where their afterburners will be in full power. That will be noisy.

And you are not alone. Other residents in paya lebar are hearing the music from the F-5s

Well, think of it as national defense. The air force is the first line of defense so they need to be constantly vigilant. And they are not for show. So they need to constantly be practicing and out of exercies. They fly at night too so that they can be invisible at night. The day the air force is not flying, is the day we all got to get worried

The other consolation is you have more close up shots than asian aerospace and national day Oh, you have a new toy to see. The new RSAF AEW GulfStream G550 with their sideway pointing Aesa radar

Last consolation--don't think the F-15SG will be going tengah since the 16s are already there.

i think it's easier for TS to shift than for the air base to shift.

I'm not a fan of the govt but...........

If so noisy, why buy the flat?

U think the place so empty for no reason? Its because the planes need to fly there thats why no high rise building. Its because our air base is there thats why no high rise buidling. U want nice scenery u got to pay the price, one way or another.

Typical Ai phi Ai chi Ai tua liap nee...

However, the part on them flying low.... I'm not into military but maybe its a new kind of warfare strategy... I don't know....

Last consolation--don't think the F-15SG will be going tengah since the 16s are already there.
f15 wont be heading to Tengah most prob. most prob Paya lebah.

but f5 ok liao not so loud.

well. airforce nowadays is the key to win what. who has air superiority, the person will stand higher chance of winning.

Well, NSF worse amongst worst, i wont wanna debate on that, because there are gonna be black sheep everywhere.. just because we see one like that dont mean all like that. true, some is lazy or whatever, but hey, there are some good ones. So i wont really pass that comment even though i am better or what not than some people.

yi shan bi yi shan kao.. and also, dont judge the whole fleet as poop because u only see one poop.

not trying to take side, but the planes really got no choice leh.. unless got leg then can off the engines and bunny hop to land lor.

imo, i think the taking off part is worst... because it involves a larger force and more power. Landing still ok...

if all else fails.... look for the MP lor. but for national security.. the mps will most prob heck your complain...
    no, im not frm RSAF.

agree that this noise is something jurong west residents have to live with.
Ubi and hougang residents also have to put up with F-5s, yishun residents have helicopters... really no choice

I am staying at 1km away from Jurong West St25 since 2002. I actually enjoy hearing the F16s fly past sound. It is my childhood dream to live near to an airbase.

My 5 years old son can tell the difference of a F16, E2C, Searcher UAV and the new GulfStream G550 just by listening to the engine sound in the living room.

When I bought this place 9 years ago, I was fully aware of the close proximity to the landing path, so close until my block has aircraft warning lights installed at the rooftop

for me i don't know bout it cause this house is bought by my parents.

the jets are not really a pain in the a*se, however, to those who are in the night shift, its really irritating.

Yep. There are good ones I agree and I didnt really pin point anyone in particular. Like what I posted earlier, its the general trend. It can't be helped. As the standard of living gets higher, the standard of soldiers get lower. Again, in general.

I ORD in 2004. When I heard from some of the old regulars of their training during my active time, I really feel my training is nothin compared to theirs. Similarly, when I heard about the training the current generation is going thru, I just........haiz.....

    2 cents,

comparing last time and now NS days
last time technology wasnt so high tech like now.
simply said, better tech, less risk and easier and safer life for soldiers.

can compare to bike as well, low tech bike, kick start until tulan. high tech bike, electric start so senang. same goes to carb and fuel injection bikes...

one thing puzzles me, we say now NS so senang, not like last time, then we also say soldiers today are spoilt and will easily die compared to last time 'garang' soldiers.
well, put urself in the shoes of a parent... i think my mind would rest easier knowing my child is goin thru easier training and surviving rather then knowing my child goin thru dunno-what-training then next day officers come n tell me my child, my own flesh n blood, has passed away due to the tough training.

and todays soldiers i believe have a higher chance of survival if a war ever breaks out, due to the fact that technology has replaced most of the men on the field with machines, thus resulting in lower death count.

im sure most of us here just poking fun at todays soldiers... no harm done... but also realise that the easier the life the younger generation go thru in NS, the better it is for our own child in the future.

    just my 2 cents
    racing in traffic...

    wow ur son is

anyway the sound of aircraft landing/taking off is gonna be a permanent part of those living near airbases..
there's no way the govt or SAF, for that matter, will close down the airbase, or relocate the runway to make a few residents happy..
there are bigger things to consider for them..

just gotta accept it, and try to live in harmony with the noise lor..

i personally think it is not a big problem, considering they are protecting the nation. Stay in the paya lebar AB area myself, now had already get used to the noise, and if u are staying in UBI area, u can even see c-130 going even lower.

Like what most had said, they are the first line of defence, and if they dun fly and train, they waste tax payer's money, and if they shift all the bases oversea, the money wasted will be more.

wat can be worse than this?

i remember my pri sch teacher once said... in 1977, he was teaching in a kampong sch at old tampines near paya lebar airport (changi airport wasn't up yet). they had to tape up all the window panes in the school. whenever the SIA concorde flew by, the loud noise would sometime cause the glass windows to break!

Till this very day, the nuisance of noise pollution from military aircraft still remains.

Shift workers such as taxi drivers, children and their caregivers, the elderly and retired, people who work from home etc are all at risk.

If you want to read on more about the regulations of military aircraft in various countries and adverse health effects of such noise pollution from studies all around the world, here is a snippet of our research: https://www.facebook.com/singaporefo...907986217825:0

Hope this helps to give everyone more insight into this continuous problem.
