the bajaj avenger got the looks & has nice specs! only concern is the rated top speed of 110km/hr & fuel efficiency.
not much talks on it in SBF despite it being around for a number of yrs.. btw, is it a 2b bike? I checked website, it says 220cc but I saw an ad here indicating a 2b bike...

wud love to ride 2a cruisers but the price & maintenace seems a lot higher.. is it true?

Yes, the bajaj seems like a replica of a phantom. Not sure of the reliability and parts availibility. Well, my steed 400 fc is about 26kpl
2.2L of eo oil raftly and taxes are about 160 per year.

    Tyres from $190 for shinko's.

you will only feel the pinch when you want to sell it next time..

i really cant understand why anyone want to pay 6¬7k for phantom.

    can even get COE Harley.

and bigger bike maintenance is not that high.

From financial point of view you are right. But, if you think with your heart and not your mind, nothing beats a brand new shiny bike. If you have the money and if its your dream, then why not. After all its only 1 life

I think you may get, but you will have to search a lot. There is huge demand for that bike so not easy to find for good value for money.

True, phantom is not chopper, just a beginners' cruiser. I really did enjoy ridding one for more than a year, but the torque leaves you wanting for more once you outgrow the bike. Steed is a nice choice, but a bit too old and no more producing. Personally I find Shadow rather bulky for me. On a higher licence Triumph T100 is reaaaally way nice and maybe guzzi california. Financially wise the jump from 200cc to 400cc is not that much, but the difference in power is noticeable.
I just love the looks, feel and sound of an old good Guzzi, though it has been around since the time of my Grandfather. I guess "they" don't do things like that anymore! Well it's not true.
    "They" still do URALS

i would die die want to keep riding if not bcos i have to renew coe.. or maybe not =D
the bike weight and the wide tyres was the sole reason why ill keep riding phantom for a 2b bike..

the engine oil consumption + lack of liquid cooling makes me look at other bikes sometimes though =X

i ditched my phantom for my scooter after riding it for 2 years. it was a great buddy. taking me to places i would nv go w/o a bike and never failed on me ever. but a trip to Melaka once on it was enough to get me hooked to riding up North. i knew i needed something more comfortable and powerful if i were to visit Msia often. and so i did. if i had the finances (still studying), would have kept it as a 2nd bike. missed that exhaust sound and its simplicity in maintenance and cheapness of parts!

I feel you on the exhaust sound bro. Now my heart itchy whenever I hear a phantom.

Buy a Daelim Daystar if you want a bike with no power.
Daelim Daystar is 125cc old version, 150cc new version.

And if you get the 125cc version, good luck getting spare parts because it's no longer in production.

Phantom is 200cc. Also no longer in production, but engine is the same as the 200cc Honda Tiger, so parts can still be found easily.

Phantom 200cc is my first bike after graduating from driving school. It was one of the best production bike ever for a cruiser and to learn that its becoming a rare breed in Singapore is a bit uneasy feelings. Nevertheless, those who are still riding it, do have fun and take care of your bike both external and internal parts and cosmetics.

With the new COE prices, more TA200 will be going to the scrapyards.

Same decision point I had when i was thinking of getting my second bike : Daelim Daystar vs Phantom

I stuck out with Phantom for several reasons (tho' its my second phantom)

    1. Cheaper than Daelim (then the asking price was in the region of 4kish for a decently maintained 2nd hand)
    2. Familiarity with TA200 engine (my first was a Gen 1)
    3. Lower startup cost means more money available to mod, Daelim Daystar come almost fully equipped with all that you may ever need (crashbar, passenger crashbar, big rider/passenger footrest; forward controls, fuel gauge, windshield)
    4. While Daelim may look bigger, it is actually less powerful (in terms of pick up). Tried one and that was almost the deciding factor why I chose TA200. Long distance power wise, not sure. No chance to test it at the HDB carpark anyway.
    5. Phantom TA200 has the Gen 2 versions which are re-designed in some ways to improve from Gen 1. Ever since riding it, I have been loving it more and more. Finding more and more ways to mod. Especially after my last inspection, where all my mods passed.

But a final caution - TA200 has a long tail length and tends to be wobbly for the un-initiated. Don't care what others tell you which is a better bike or what. The important thing is you ride liao you SONG can le. The bike is going in between your thighs, not mine. Happy Riding!
