    Default [Discussion] Oil coolers for TA200?



    i was just wondering is there any after market oil coolers i can get for my ride.
    because after 25-30+ minutes of riding my engine and gearbox is really really really hot. and i often get burned on my left leg while riding with shorts, my left leg will inadvertently touch the alternator/gearbox.

    so i was wondering if i can find a custom/aftermarket oil cooler so that my engine oil will run cooler for longer and hence improving wear and tear life as well...

    Do Exhaust heat wrap, that will keep your engine running cooler. See if your carb setting is too lean, fix it if necessary. Try using a thinner 40 weight oil that transfers heat faster. These are all cheaper alternatives

    nah. its cfm a custom workpiece. n nt gonna be worth it man. stick to the suggestions above n give it a try 1st. the bike does run abit hot anyway. abit of mod and i tink ur bike shud be fine.

    Engine Oils have an optimum operating temperature.
    If your bike didn't need it when stock, you don't need it unless doing some extreme performance tuning or upgrade.

    i dont know about my carburettor setting. if its lean i'll let it be... running rich also not good too much un burnt fuel = waste.
    and when you said 40 weight oil is 10W40?

    thanks for the recommendations i check out my oil... i think my mech use full synthetic oil.

    If you are new to phantom, it takes sometime to not get burnt... my opinion is you don't need those modifications hopefully.

    I suggest you to have about 1.3L engine oil on the next oil change. This is the next closest thing you can get than an oil cooler.

    But you are right, an oil cooler carries extra volume of oil and maintains the engine temperature lower. Unfortunately, there is no bolt-on aftermarket oil cooler kit for this engine. There is more work than you expect to custom one, but can be done.

    If you are taking this bike constantly on long trips or racing, then go for it. Or plan B, get the Baja 200 Pulsar or Avenger that came fitted with an oil cooler.

    not adviceable to overfill actually. it can create excessive pressures inside the crankcase which can break the seals/gaskets. plus, the oil will churn n foam, losing its lubricative abilities.

    Don't worry, 1.3L is just fine. Here is why:

    We know the gears baths in the oil, if you overfill the engine oil, let's say 2L, most probably your engine will be drown and cannot start. Even if it could, it will be so sluggish that it cannot idle. You can also see the bike emitting white smoke similar to a worn piston, causing your plug to foul and as well as a choked air filter.

    How about 1.5L? This amount actually allows idling etc, but I found out that it is just wasting the engine oil. Your engine will push out those extra oil all over the air box and overflow into the PCV tank which was not designed to cycle back the engine oil. - (The DRZ SM has a flow back design but vise versa will have issues getting rid of excess oil if over filled)

    At 1.3L, it works out just nicely, without overflow issues nor retarded idle. The bike benefits from the extra oil, compensating the loss of oil through the above mentioned.


    So if you intend to fix an oil cooler, make sure the oil line is run in a way that it does not back flow into the crankcase. - see how the venting circuit, frame/oil coolers run on WR400, XR400 vs DR350/650.

    I got an idea, go buy a oil cooler that fits into the dipstick hole, then connect the hose to a small radiator like the S4.
    Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

    It cannot work that way as an oil cooler requires an oil pump to work..

    where to do exhaust heat wrap? how much it cost?
