    Default Yamaha MT 09

What do you think of this all new Yamaha 3 cyclinders bike?

Yamaha has previously created the MT-01(V-Twin), MT-03(Single Cyclinder). This is the first for a 3 cyclinders motor.

When we set out to develop the MT-09 our goal was to create a new kind of sport bike with three key elements that would set it apart from other models.
First of all we wanted a new kind of engine developing strong and exciting torque. The chassis had to be compact and slim. And this next generation sport bike would need a unique character that would make every ride special.
With its 850cc 3-cylinder engine, the new MT-09 produces remarkable levels of linear torque that redefine sport riding. The lightweight aluminium chassis is agile and easy to handle. And the naked bodywork with wide handlebars and flat seat gives confidence and control.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,
torque is how far you take the wall with you.

its a nice change, torque like a twin, revvy like 4. I personally buy the idea. But hope that while this idea is hibernating for Yammy supersport / world superbike capacity, Hope they will make a Jdm 400cc out of it too. 2A choices for revv bikes esp still very rare. Based on Yammy euro site, its actually 1 k cheaper than FZ8 despite being marginally more powerful.

yes have got to agree with you

torque like a 2 cyclinders, power like a 4 cyclinders. who doesn't love it?

FZ8 is so overkill for SG roads, and it is like an "identity confused" product of Yamaha. if you could have go for the litre bike such as FZ1, why do you go for the FZ8? hahaha. Perhaps some will debate on the fact that it has better fuel consumption, aesthetics better than the FZ1, and it is lighter ...

hopefully Yammie comes out with a MT-09 (S), halffairing version just like the FZ8S, FZ1S...

But again, since MT09 has marginally more power than FZ8, maybe overkill for SG too.

Hopefully when they have more experience with 3ples, there will be an R6 (675cc) which will in turn have a detuned 675cc 3ple that will be next gen XJ6.

what took the manufacturers so long to come out with this? haha. Heard that Yammy is lobbying for motoGP to allow 1100cc 3ples too.

for a moment, i was thinking FZ8 has got more CC than FZ9 hahaha.

yes the power will definitely be overkill but the torque will make it such a joy to do city riding. And it wont be as hot as a 4 cylinders!

Yammie is stepping on triumph's territory, which is awesome for consumers.

add the fact that compression is 11.5 compared to 12.0 of the FZ8, should be noticibly cooler. Remove triumph's monopoly over 3ples. brilliant. I hate monopolies.
Based on pricing at Yamaha euro, its 1k less than the FZ8. So since FZ8 OTR is 22k in SG, MT09 should be 20k?

    http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums...t-FZ8-Now-FZ09

there was a thread about this...just different naming (EU has MT-09, US has FZ-09)

im quite excited about this as im taking my class 2 lessons now and was aiming for triumph street triple (675cc, 105bph) and now yamaha came out with machine. the wet weight for this is 188kg..which is super light like R6....and its 115bph

As for parts and availability, i dont think im a huge fan of modding, might just need to add somemore storage space like top box..

hopefully the OTR pricing is about 19-20k...but looking at street triple which is 21.5k OTR...lets see how things go.

dollar for dollar its way more worth it. as long as u dont dig prestige , heritage and wat not.....

its not just the moding, its the avail of wear & tear essentials.....eg coil. AD may have it but expect to pay signifigantly a lot lot lot more...

should be about there since in euro its 1 k cheaper. Just fear the local mark up since theres the novelty factor.....finally a jap 3ple in recent years.

not sure man. But hope its OTR 20k. Since FZ8 is 22k. But read the 1st ride review. The seat is motard like, narrow & firm. Hope they will expand that engine use and develop something to take on some Tiger meat. , and how bout a 2/3 tourer version of FJR 1300.

could be coz they position it as motard cum fighter. In this segment fuel tank size is expected. But hoping they will apply this engine in various trims & make many models. At 188kg with all liquids in, its even lighter than S4. Can apply to JDM 400cc, XJ6/Divvy replacement, Budget Tiger, 2/3 tourer, TDM replacement....etc... They just need to play around with the bore & stroke whilst using the same engine block. Just like how car manufacturers do it. And will the feedback, slowly tweak their way to supersports , superbike & moto GP .....Yammy could aim to be market leader for Jap 3ple cyl.

news from US states that the fuel consumption for this bike is proclaimed by yamaha = 44mpg(18.7 kpl)

but the actual riders had variation of 33-37 mpg(14-15kpl)....hmmmm

14-15 sounds realistic city riding which SG riders will be subjected to. The 18.7 includes highway probly quite a fair bit. Or worse thats the figure based on 6th gear, maintaining constant 60kmh..kidding. If its Japan combine cycle, should at least be 20/litre.

    if really that case... 14L and assume 3L is reserved.. 11L x 15km = 165km
at 165km and you have to top petrol already... @_@lll
even can go up to 20km/L also abt 200km need to re-fuel already...

no doubt, but their firm & narrow seat as shared in 1 mags 1st ride review suggest Yammy didn't intend the bike for longer distance. Its supposedly a motard cum fighter.

That's why I think at 847cc as default, its a smart move. Reduce bore easily reach 675cc. Bore up easily reach 1050cc. Good strategy by Yammy.

come to think of it, fuel tank too small for touring use. Yet in SG, power is overkill.
Did read that in city riding, the tester chose B mode as best. Sport Mode way too sharp. Normal mode also too sharp. Due to sensitive throttle resp paired with torquey engine.

Scully in the end LTA don't approve coz not suitable in SG & worried u get stranded up north.

Based on Yammy Euro site, its 1k euro cheaper than FZ8. FZ8 I believe OTR is 22k in SG. Guess u could reverse calculate from there & compare to the Triumph.

Hi Bro, I no expert lah. Just happen to read here & there. Usually price diff for naked & half faired is about $500. My guess is 22.5k OTR excl insur.

To some extent yea. Guess Yammy could be compromising their profit margin in doing so. Fight for more market share & aim to be seen as a big player (leader) in the industry like honda. But FZ8 does have aluminium frame too & 1 cyl more...haha.

The MT07 is reported at 180kg wet. 75hp, parallel twin/staggered firing order which would make the similarly powered XJ6 at 205kg overweight
    too.

Could be smart at Yammies end, while Lorenzo is dominant & Rossi seems to be like in twilight years liao, commonly coming in at 4th. ( Rossi's curent contract ending end of 2014 season?) Good for Yammy to market their stuff while the "rossi" brand name is strongly associated with them & still in action.

So in future, just like Honda's unique selling point (USP) = V4, so Yammy is Triple ? haha.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,
torque is how far you take the wall with you.

ahah..only ridden the bike for 10km..lol. So far, 2 cons that I encounter. Dont like the heat although its bearable(perhaps cause still new & its my 1st cls 2 bike) & the suspension is too bouncy for me(gonna do some adjustment once hit 1st service). Other than that, love the rest especially the engine

The heat is normal with a class 2 bike...

Our city riding will only make it worst, haha... Need to "release" it more on expressway to cool down the beast..

    Nice MT-09!!

Anyone saw MT-07 in SG alr?

    thanks for the info.

btw, bout the MT-07, posted this on its own thread -

    http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-...ced/24071.html

it'll be avail in Feb 2014 for Europe, so perhaps March for SG? the price for them would be 5200 pounds, so SG maybe around $15k otr?
