It depends on the type of bikes.
Personally, I find it looks odd for a super sport bike to be fitted with top box. No offence to owners who put 1 on their sport bikes; it's your bike and I respect your choice. Some owners find it practical to have one for their daily essentials and dislike carrying helmets and jackets around.
I came across a RVF fitted with a black and squarish big top box. Perhaps it look odd coz it is a rare sight but definitely unique.

For which bike? What kinda top box? What purpose? Touring? Daily use? Keep what?
A Yamaha RX-Z. As in, those normal box fitted at the back of the bike. Purpose of the bike is to be used mainly for transport.
Personally,
- With a box attached, I find it useful to have one.
- Without a box, if we are talking about looks, it would look more stylo, isn't it?
IMHO..rxz no problem with box..lots of my bros with dem..even with box they still run! With sotong tyres lagi worst! Hahahaha..now all old rxz with box? Thumbs up bah! All my bikes sure got box ..unless my scrammies la...now old man liao..writing scooter..with big box and great understorage..wife happy ..me happier!
Sieg Heil!!!Sieg Heil!!!Sieg Heil!!!
I guess most riders would prefer to have a box attached, for convenience?
Is there such thing as a removable motorcycle box? Removable as in can attach and detach.
All box can attached and detach to the base plate unless using a direct mount type of box

Other than a box, is a magnetic tank bag a better alternative?
Luggage aint cool![]()
Dragstar 400 classic & Zx6r
I bought an adventure bike because I needed box for daily use. Lol

Box more practical. Without box looks nicer. Maybe go for those side ones?
Side ones hard to land split Haha
Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...
Box for convenience of storage and comfort of pillion. You can carry your stuff and keep it dry in the box. As well as your rain gears.
No Box, you'll need to bring a bag... which is water proof. And your pillion will end up carrying it.
But do note that with a box... most bikes will have a warning... Eg for Super 4... there is a warning that with box... do not go beyond 130km/h...
But i know of bros that have gone way beyond that... so...
when i young , no box no problem.
helmet carry here and there no issue
when old liao , lazy carry helmet here and there, everything chuck in box
rain or sudden rain also no scared, always have spare helmet ready .
conclusion , i old le convenience beats acting cool .
一路向北 4 EVER , my friend
Is this type of mounting, with just a baseplate instead of using a rack, allowed when it comes to vehicle inspection?

Because they don't use a rack in the video. So I was considering, attaching just the baseplate on an RX-Z? Unsightly?
Without box
all narrows down to what bike and purpose.

That is a nice setup.
Have yet to see that. Only when the plate of the bike in question starts with a letter T or L.
If the driver refuse to acknowledge your presence even you use HID also the driver will say did not see you.
Looks like its DIY. On an RXZ? Have fun taking out your seat/box everytime you need to fill up your 2T. Post pics if you successfully installed it as illustrated in the video.![]()

I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike..I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride it where I like..
Anyway install or not to install most important is what you want, you use it for your convenience. Frequency of needing a box to put things. Just another advice with box Stablility will be slightly lesser as the weight in the box will shift when you corner & when there's strong wind.
Side box (the type that only can put files & raincoat) will be slightly better as it lesser space for the weight to shift. & with even weight on both boxes your bike will be more stable than clean vertic
Vote for side boxes too, looks cooler.
depends on type of bikes...certainly not for sports bike
But sports tourer looks good leh..

Liverpool revival has started....
With FTW! Cannot live without one. So convenient to be able to leave bag in the box and go shopping

i totally need a box, at least 42L, to store jacket and helmet.
Box is love, Box is life. Box all the way.
[2005 Yamaha YBR 125]
I definitely go for a box to store items like rain suite, riding jacket & gloves, parking coupons, computer bag, etc.
By the way, my box is 48L CooCase (basic).

Having box is like the word "cute" - ugly but adorable.
I gave up on having box when I changed bike as I rarely use the items I put in my box. Putting used helmet in the box is disgusting. Should air it instead.

I've tried not having a top box on my new bike for around a month.
However, having to carry my helmet around and risk my laptop getting wet was too much..
Prefer to have storage just for the convenience though it spoils the look of the bike
I voted for a box..buts its ugly to mount one on any bike imho
Box, cause can store helmet.
I think it depends on the purpose for riding. If one rides daily as the main means of transport, then a box is probably important for convenience and perhaps safety reasons.
For me I ride mostly for fun these days so I wouldn’t need a box.
Looked like it's very difficult to find a top box bracket for sport bike.
Any idea how to get a top box rack for Honda CBR400R ?
It looks better without a box TBH. I have a box on my motorcycle simply for convenience's sake. Else I'll have no place to put my purchases/helmet.
With box, is good to put in your bag when raining day.
