    Any PS4 gamers?

    was thinking maybe this thread for reviewing games, possibly trade or sell 2nd hand games.

    Currently playing 'Ride'. wouldnt mind writing a review except i donno if there is anybody going to read it here.

    It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

    Would be interested in a review of Ride.

    I have fifa 14 (yes 14), gta v, need for speed, call of duty, Injustice and a few other free games. Most of them are from last year... was going to get driveclub but got a few problems Ive read... project cars looks interesting

    This is a simulation-type racing game, not arcade. I have always preferred sim-type racing like Forza and Gran Turismo, and rarely buy/play arcade-type like Need for Speed or MotoGP.

    As a Sim-type motorcycle game, this game is equally satisfying and disappointing. It is a satisfying simulation but a disappointing game.

    As a simulation game, the gameplay is not easy. Casual players who play mostly Need for Speed and never Gran Turismo, will experience a steep learning curve. In fact even for a Forza and GT veteran like me, the controls are difficult, and i'm pretty sure i can pick up and play any Forza and GT game instantly.

    For better and for worse, the simulation is realistic. The bikes turn and handle like real world. Exactly what hardcore sim gamers want. But because it is so realistic, at its highest simulation setting, you will crash if you full throttle at full lean, full brake from above 200kmh, full brake from full lean, throttle at any lean angle in the dirt, hit another bike at an angle at front tyre, at rear tyre, etc etc etc. cars in Forza and GT don't crash in the above instances and can recover fairly reasonably by skilled players. In Ride, you crash, then the computer puts you back on bike on a standstill, and the opponent bikes zoom by and then its almost impossible to regain your former position.

    I had to wind down the simulation settings and activate the TCS at the highest setting. The game retains the simulation feel while avoiding a lot of the 'instant' crashes. my biker instead appears to be on the verge of losing control in the above instances and allows me to perform recovery, which is better than instantly crashing. but the fact remains, only a sim fan like me will appreciate the controls.

    when you play a track with just your bike, no opponents, you truly appreciate the beautiful game mechanics. For anyone familiar with Forza and GT, this game truly feels like a motorcycle rather than a car from the way it handles and corners, even if you mostly take the same cornering line. successfully taking on a corner at full lean at precisely the right cornering line, and your tyres skim the red-and-white curb just before it hits the dirt while full throttling, is surpremely satisfying feeling in Ride, more than cars in Forza and GT.



    and the bike settings (just suspension and gear, although race bikes can adjust rake and trail) do affect the way the bike handles, although it seems (to me) more of just trading between cornering tighter at the expense of how easily it loses control.

    in that respect, the developers have succeeded in terms of giving us a satisfying sim.

    unfortunately, it seems the developers then heck care everything else. which is where it becomes frustrating.

    1) Graphics are PS3 and X360 caliber. All the spectators very mechanically raise hands and clap or wave at the same time, and thats all they do: raise hand, clap, raise hand, wave. all at the same time. ridiculous.

    2) Load times are horrendous. I don't even know what's there in each race that takes so long to load. and there's load time even just going between home screen and events screen.

    3) There are a lot of bikes, but Forza back in X360 had way more. There are a lot of tracks, but Forza in X360 had way more. There are plenty of racing events, but..... you get the idea.

    4) The AI is ridiculous. I decimate opponents in 'very easy', but only manage 4th and below in 'easy'. the problem is that the AI doesn't become smarter; their bikes become faster. i'm on a maxed out bike and the AI zooms past me on the straight in easy even though i out-corner them. wth?!

    5) you can customize your rider gear with a variety if helmets and suits and gloves and boots, but the bikes are not customizable at all. you can only opt for real world production colours. not even a repaint of single colours. back in forza i was already personalizing my cars with self-made logos of local brands.

    6) available aftermarket parts are very basic. 2 different levels of suspension (only), 3 different levels of slip-on exhaust (only, although each level has maybe carbon or titanium with no other diff than colour), 2 levels of engine upgrades, and some air filters and brake pads and stuff. only one tyre upgrade from stock to slick. bikes max out very easily.

    7) glitches once in a while. wrong bike image when i scroll thru my garage. when i wanted to buy exhausts for my R1, some of the exhausts dont show in the generated image at all, resulting in a bike with no exhaust pipe under the seat or anywhere.

    8) You cannot perform a second rewind immediately after an initial rewind. example, you crash and rewind. if you crash again within 3 seconds of that first rewind, you can't rewind again. it seems the game stores 3 to 4 seconds of data for rewind, but then deletes it after each rewind. in Forza, you can keep rewinding because the game always stores 3 or 4 seconds of past data, and merges it with whatever happens after the rewind. so forza lets you keep rewinding until you find a solution if one exists, but ride gives you only one chance at solving your mistake.

    this all makes the game feel like a passable PS3 game, and nowhere near what a PS4 game should be. the developers really seem like they made a really good sim, and then added on the rest like they can't bother.

    ultimately, if you 'need' a motorcycle sim, currently this is your only choice and in terms of giving you the riding sim experience, its worth it. beyond that, its disappointing. It has such huge potential to be a true motorbike version of forza or gran turismo, but where the car sims offer the full experience with bells and whistles, Ride gives you the feeling of a powerful superbike fitted with scooter tyres.

    i also have project cars, but i stopped it for ride. but only because i'm more bike fan than car fan. ride is going to bore me soon enough, when i get back to project cars i'll write a review.

    initial thoughts: it is a forza/GT that gives you only the sim and mods and tuning, and nothing else. no unlocks, licenses, climbing anything.

    on a side note, aren't you frustrated that almost two years on, and the latest gen consoles still dont churn out superhits regularly enough? the shop shelves are empty and the stores are closing down (i think comics connection taken over by new management). its not just that games are now digital downloads. apart from COD, and upcoming Batman Arkham Knight, i don't see any game i now thinking "Must buy! Must buy! Maybe pre-order with comics connection just in case!".

    Nice, thanks for the reviews. I used to like games like nfs underground 2. If they made a new arcade style car/bike street game like that I would def buy it. Open world arcade style so boring ahaha.

    Never really played sim style racing games but been thinking of trying them out. Only thing is there doesn't seem to be much progression or storyline?

    I got most games from funz centre since I stay nearby but downloaded gta v online.

    then i recommend you give Ride a miss. its just not a good starting point for arcade racers. theres another one, Motorcycle Club which in theory should be more your style, but reviews say the game is very bad. I think MotoGP should be your option.

    the thing about sim racers is the fans care more about the realistic controls and good career modes, most would not care that there is no storyline. its the driving experience.

    its all about the realistic things you can do to the car, plus realistic driving controls. project cars is the only option for PS4 right now, but i can tell you it is devoid of any storyline, even career. the game is pure sim racing with nothing else. if that sounds boring, again give it a miss.

    in truth, Forza for Xbox and Gran Turismo for PS are the absolute best sims, good enough even for casual gamers to pick up and play and hardcore gamers to go full on. nothing else comes close.

    but GT developers said next GT (and first for PS4) possibly late 2015 more likely early 2016

    I have Ride 2 and quite realistic with the handling. Ride 3 is out but I'll wait for the price to go down and then get it.
