Default Indian Bikes (scout, Chief, chieftan and road master

Hi All (did search but couldn't find anything on the Indian line up)

Has anyone actually been down to Mah and looked at the selection of Indian bikes?

I have heard that the scout is a great choice as a light weight cruiser, however I do like the look of the Dark Horse chief with keyless start, ABS and Cruise control, and everywhere I've seen 5yrs warranty for all models (I wonder if Singapore is offering the same?).

I was considering whether an air cooled will do very well in Singapore given the heat. I've only rode water cooled and these have done relatively OK. I had heard that there is a lot of heat given off the air cooled engines even before a run.

If anyone can confirm the pricing I had also heard it was about $23k (ex COE) for the scout and then upwards for the other models. Just as an FYI it seems the US is the only market to do these bike at a really attractive price (which is expected) The UK is doing the Scout at the same price GBP as USD making it considerably more expensive compared to US.

    US pricing:-
Scout $10999 USD black, other colours inc flat black at $11299 USD (only watercooled model 69 cubic inch or circa 1100cc)
Dark Horse $16999 USD (all other models air cooled 111 cubic inch or circa 1800cc)
    Chief classic $18999 USD
    Chief vintage $20999 USD
    Chieftan $22999 USD
    Roadmaster $26999 USD

Please if anyone has any experience of these bikes would love to hear of their performance costing etc in Singapore.

Now the proud owner of the Indian Scout.... A confused cruiser with the compression and engine of a sports bike LOL.

    Any other owners out there?

would love to hear on your report before deciding to purchase. Knowing that this bike is build in america and made for america weather and climate condition, i wonder how it will perform in Singapore condition. The heat from the engine during the common Jams in singapore, the wear and tear, the fuel consumption. How often do i need to pump petrol? Any upgrades to the tank to increase the capacity?

Any of you riders have the saddle bags installed? Is it rain proof? Hope to get some answers on this as i am really keen on this bike.

    Thanks bros.

Somehow I have this feeling that the forum isn't going very strong for Indian and for that matter Harley too. I would think that with so many riders out there, there should be lots of chatter on mods and stuff... Is there some secret forum or what? Lol

yeah, different kind of bike. But I do read many online reviews comparing the scout vs various sportsters.

    Just google :

I have riden on both the Sportster & Scout. After owning over 14 bikes & riden on numerous, Imo...just my 2 cents worth opinion:

    - Scout is ergonomically suited better for my height of 5'5". The seat size & fit can keep u comfortable all the way to the next tank refill. The Sportster on the other hand feels more like a 'cafe \ pub hoper' with its narrow handle bar & full frontal wind blast. Not a bike I would be on for hrs. Btw with its tiny fuel tank I wouldn't go anywhere further than 50km from town.

    - the Scout feels light & very easy to ride. It is surprisingly quick & adequate braking power to attack corners like a sports bike limited only by its lean angle. A sports bike in disguise. As for the Sportster it is noticeably heavier. Although it can be flick quite easily from side to side, with some effort to push down the narrow handle bar. The HD air cool engine pales in comparison with Indian's liquid cool.

If I wan to just pose & look badass I will buy a HD with loud pipe. If i wan to enjoy a road trip, riding hrs after hrs it will not make it to my list.

I guess u rode the 48? Yeah.... pure performance is not a Harley trademark. In fact, when HD came up with a superior performance driven sportster in the XR1200, sales was so bad that they stop production.

They realise Harley lovers don't only consider performance... time will tell if the new roadster can combine the performance and Harley heart better than its older brother.

Btw, I was eyeing the scout for quite some time but after checking out the new sportster roadster, I immediately made a booking.

Did u go for test ride? Test rode 3 HD, 2 from the local agent & 1 from friend, I concluded HD isn't my cup of tea.
Btw I don't look for performance bike instead I go for touring comfort. The only reason y I m still riding is bcos I love road trips. Since my 1st road trip in 1996, I only buy bikes that is comfortable enough for road trips, riding hrs after hrs. From Kawasaki Vulcan in 1996 to Yamaha TDM 900, Yamaha FJR 1300, Kawasaki KLX 500, Suzuki V-Strom 650XT, Victory Cross Country & Aprilia Caponord 1200.
Ehrrr my present Kawasaki D-Tracker & Aprilia RS4 not counted lah! D-Tracker is my run kopi thiam/market bike & RS4 is wifey's quick run about bike

Heard too many horror stories abt BMW by the time friends started giving thumds up for BMW (reliability & svc) it is already GS1200 higher, bigger & heavier while I getting older, shorter & weaker...
Not getting Scout anytime soon as m waiting for wifey to get her cl2. She is eyeing on the Victory Octane & I may get a Scout then to ride with her but I will keep my options open. Let's c wat HD have to offer by then.

the R1200GS can go below 800 with the lowering kit bro...

The victory octane looks awesome! I think its forward control though, might be challenging if she's not tall enough. riding together as a couple is really cool!

    any scout owners here?

No offence pls, recently I c too many BMW especially GS on our road, there is this lack of 'exclusiveness' sense

C there r several factors to my choice of bike. Things like budget, reliability, accessories, availability of aftermarket parts etc etc & 1 big factor is the sense of exclusive. E.g. r all my cl 2A & 2 bike. The moment ZX7RR P1 & FJR1300 2nd Gen became a common sight in SG I sold them off. Had the ZX7RRP1 for 6 mths & FJR1300 Gen2 for 10 mths b4 i trade them in.

Had 2 cl2A bikes. When i finally had the $ I got my very 1st new bike
    - 1993 a Kawasaki Eliminator 250
    & then in
    - 1995 a Suzuki Intruder 400
These bikes were rare on our road back when i bought them.

I heard the bike only ~800km owner has other vech so hardly ride thus selling. If i heard correctly it's going @$28,000 w/JH pipes & rider floorboards.
Yes there is also the demo bike u can ask if they r selling.

Quite common if own more than 1 ride some rides will clock very low mileage. Like myself, mid this yr I had 3 bike & a car, I let go my V Strom 650XT after riding it for 6 mth. Aug i bought the RS4 125 & till date clock barely 400km so i sold my D-tracker which clock ~1000km in 7mths. So far the highest mileage is Victory Cross Country having ~4500km in 6 mths

4k off for 800km usage is not too shabby. Hopefully they have brighten up the bike quite abit. If its the same grey bike I saw few months back, its quite sad lonely looking.
