Dear All,
May look like a vent-off, but just to share my experience with you thinking of purchasing the BMW Motorrad Navigator V (GPS) for your 1200GS or other BMW bike:
1) Price:
Singapore BMW Motorrad (Performance Motors): SGD1,370.00 (around that)
Johor Bahru BMW Motorrad (Wearnes Autohaus): SGD1,000.00 (around that)
2) Technical Information:
DOES NOT COME WITH ANY MAPS INSTALLED! Just a dead LCD display...
Both dealers:
Singapore BMW Motorrad (Performance Motors)
Johor Bahru BMW Motorrad (Wearnes Autohaus):
Quote:
"You have to download the maps yourself." End quote.
This is not a very useful support coming from an authorized BMW Motorrad dealer and for a genuine BMW part (This is NOT an aftermarket part. And Garmin, the OEM manufacturer, DOES NOT sell or support this device.)
Both dealers do not tell you where to download the maps from, how much will it cost...
The maps for Singapore/Malaysia CANNOT be downloaded from
www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdater (DEAD)
The maps for Singapore/Malaysia CANNOT be downloaded by using Garmin Express (
http://www.garmin.com/en-US/maps/updates)
If you were to purchase maps from Garmin, the only option is Southeast Asia, which is a 2014 version... A lot has changed in Singapore, Malaysia, and the other Countries since then... I guess it is outdated.
Will cost you $100 to get the map, and valid for one year. That is, no free updates from Garmin.
Respect from the Manufacturer:
ZERO. I contacted customer support for BMW Motorrad via email: They replied first time: the responsible department will contact you... (SO FAR NOTHING FROM BMW) I email other 5 times, but they do not give any importance whatsoever.
Conclusion:
If you purchase the Navigator V for your bike, be prepared to get frustrated and angry with BMW... Unless you are in the United States, as the product is properly supported.
Why BMW Motorrad sells something that was not designed for Singapore and Malaysia, and their Authorized Dealers here cannot support?
Until now I had 4 BMW bikes and 1 BMW car, but just because of this lack of respect to my appreciation for their product, I have to rethink if I should continue my patronage...
