Hello Pisces, I am currently taking class 2b as well at 31 yrs old.

wow this forum is pretty much dead. I just read the old post to get some tips on how to improve on the areas i suck at.

For plank what works for me is to throttle with enough speed so that it doesn't feel wobbly and get the bike up the plank first. Once I am sure the whole bike is on the plank I will close throttle slightly and step on and off on the rear brake. Sometimes I will open throttle slightly because I feel it's too slow and I might fall off. But I think most people use maintain throttle method and just step on rear brake? Depends on what works for u.

    but the basic uMUST do
    1. look far
    2. Kiap your leg to tank like your life depends on it.
    3. use handle bar to balance

Last time when I thought I was going to fall off the plank, my mind just gave up and I will direct my bike to fall off the plank without even trying to balance it by steering the handle bar. Maybe I was scared of dropping the bike. But then something click and I realize there is more than enough allowance on the plank for me to balance it by steering the handle bar. Once u get it ,it's like swimming/cycling, u cannot unlearn it.

But for your case if you just drop off once u go up then maybe you should just focus on going up and down the plank without falling off the plank first without thinking about the time. Once you get use to it then start improving on staying longer on the plank.

BTW I took 3 lessons to pass but it doesn't matter because I did learn something.

It depends on the lesson and how you go around booking the lesson. For my case I always have around 2-3 lesson per week. You could wait and not book first as sometimes people will sell their lesson last min. But then you may somewhat loose the earliest slot as you haven’t book anything. For my case I usually buy the earliest slot and then I will cancel them to allow me to see the next available earliest slot since sometimes people “try sell” their slot. It will only work on lessons that are 72 hours away to cancel immediately other than that it’s the trysell button. But then if there are no slots that is earlier than my booking then I will just buy back my original slot. Usually I will cancel my lesson at timing like midnight and 7+ in the morning cause it’s usually the time whereby people last min want to sell their slot. Sorry for the long ass reply, hope it helps.

Thank you! I think I know what you mean. Probably will do this as well in weeks that I’m more flexible! Don’t mind me asking, how long you take to complete practical 1-7?

I started practical 1 on 19/8 and finally cleared practical 7 on 22/10. Hahaha I did take a 1 week break in between. Anyways All the best for your upcoming lesson. Just remember to listen closely to what the Instructors wants and mostly likely you will be able to clear the lesson

is it just me? I am having a huge problem with this new bike. It stalls so easily that I keep stalling and falling at crank and when i exit fig 8 if i slow down. I even have problem at E-brake something I am good at when using the old bike... Sigh..i pass my lesson 4 with the old bike. I tried this new bike a few times now and I feel I am like relearning all over again and I don't know how long it will take for me to get used to it. Does changing to the smaller bike (msx 125) helps?

I had the same problem too but after using it a few more times and going for revision it got better. I find that this bike is better on road compared to the older one. I stalled a few times at fig 8 and crank too but all I can say is practice more and try to go in at a slower speed just maintain at the speed where it won’t stall. Don’t rush and keep calm. If you try and still cannot then maybe you can ask the instructors for tips and whether you should change to MSX.

    Thanks Rice.

Any tips on how to maintain the speed without stalling after fully releasing the clutch? if I throttle it's always too fast but if i brake it's too slow and bike will get stall..
When u do fig 8 and crank with this bike do you use rear brake (in fig 8) and how do u "end" your fig 8? And also on crank do you half clutch gear 1 turn left and change to gear 2 when your bike is straight ? what do you do after? thanks.

Also for Pylon although i can sort of do it but i don't feel smooth and idk if i exceed the timing. Is it better to maintain throttle without brake. or maintain throttle brake on and off..or drag brake...or on off throttle? I tried maintaining throttle with no brake but it's always too fast..if i add in rear brake on and off it is too slow and i am force to throttle up if not I can't make it to the next turn. haiz...very demoralizing like i feel i don't even know what I am doing anymore...and being light and short isn't helping when the bike get stronger and heavier

I do use rear brake in fig 8 if I feel that I going to fast. I usually only increase throttle at the center when I am going straight then I will "bank" with the bike so that I don't end up striking the curb on the curve after that. On how I "end" my fig 8 I usually check for traffic even before I enter to take note on whether I need to prepare to stop later on. I also check when I am the last turn as when I turn the "left" signal on, I will take note of the traffic coming from the right and decide. If there is traffic, I will still slow down a bit and only break and clutch in when I am very near the exit. However, if there is no traffic, I will maintain throttle and exit.

For crank course, I half clutch and turn in and change. I think the trick is just to keep calm and just maintain your throttle at a pace so after you turn and change gear it won't stall. I know it may sound like bullshit but I really find myself doing better when I don't think so much. Just let your body feel the bike and control the throttle and gear shifting. If not you can also ask the instructors for opinions as different people can tell you different stuff.

For Pylon, I will brake when I feel that I going too fast. In my case, I usually enter from the most right so that I can turn right after the first cone without hitting it. For this bike, the trip is really to bank with the bike but you must see how much for yourself also.

If you can book for circuit revision, I suggest you do so as it really helps in my opinion. I also passed my prac 4 with the old bike so when I reach prac 7 I made sure to book a Circuit revision before I did my Prac 7. It helped and I really improved on the timing and stuff too. I had problems during my warm-up with the bike on my prac 7 too at fig 8 and crank but then I always tell myself that even if I failed, I have already come so far and spent so much so why not just relax and try. After relaxing and to my surprise I didn't have any problem and I realized that you just really have to relax and just think of whatever the instructor taught you. But then if you really cannot handle the bike, try talking to the instructor about the change to MSX. All in all, I just hope you don't give up and just try and press on

No...it's not you...I started my 3-1 (2nd lesson) already & stalled at the crank course a few times...I saw a few others also with the same problem....the distance to go into crank course is very short. After moved off, straight away changed to Gear 2 at 1/2 clutch, but then you will feel the engine cranking, the next thing you know...the engines stalled...is it 'cos release the clutch too early ?

Most of my stalling occur at crank course. But not at the entrance..is at the last left turn inside the crank course. I did ask instructor about this he advise me to clutch back in if I feel the bike is going to stall and apparently I would get points for this. I think my problem is in the middle of the crank when the bike is moving straight I tend to throttle a little while slowing releasing the clutch. But because I am not used to this new bike power, I end up speeding up too much causing me to step on the rear brake maybe too much too since the brake is more sensitive I feel. As a result the bike becomes too slow and about to stall when I am turning left but I can't throttle anymore at this point since I am turning. So I end up falling when the bike stall =.=

I took it 4 times. You just have to not give up and just keep trying. Go for circuit revision if you think you are still weak at certain areas. Just remember to keep turning your head for blind spots too.

Took me 2 times but I went for 2 RC. Honestly i think it was just luck that I somehow clear my weakness smoothly that day because i was so nervous my body was shaking the entire time LOL.

Hey Rice - how is lesson 7 like ? Will the instructor just follow behind me while I just go through the circuit like lesson 4 and they take note of your demerit points while riding with u?
And for the road test do I just follow Lesson 6 test route or will they ask me to go some random route to test my ability?

Hi laviz, for lesson 7 you will be spilt into 2 groups either you will be on road or in circuit first.

For circuit, it is the same as Prac 4 just that you will be given time to do 1 round of practice before the tester will gather you guys and proceed for the test. There will usually be only 1 instructor doing the test so when you move off from the starting point he will only be standing at the fig 8 there to see you go up the slope and etc. Then he will proceed to wave you off for the fig 8 after you exit, you will go to crank course but then you will have to wait for him to walk over. It’s the same as Prac 4 just that need to wait as he have to walk over everytime you finish one ‘station’.

For road, you will be assigned to a instructor. The instructor will follow you through the whole road test. But before the official test, there will be a defensive riding whereby he will tell you where to go and you just have to follow him. He will usually tell you where to go and then move behind you to allow you to lead. It’s quite fun hahaha. Then after the defensive riding, the official test will begin. He will be behind you and then you just follow the test route from lesson 6 but without stoping at point 1&2. You just have to remember to keep left.

Overall, I find lesson 7 really helpful as it will show you where you stand before taking the test. The instructor will also let you know what you do wrong and stuff so I really learn a lot from it. Like what a lot of people, I rather you fail lesson 7 then fail TP. So even if you don’t pass lesson 7 at first try just continue and don’t give up hahaha. I took it twice and manage to pass TP within my first try

Jiayou to everyone still learning Don’t give up

wow sounds like a fun lesson even if i fail. I am brushing up on my RC now before going for lesson 7. Only problem with failing this is waste of $$! Good luck to us all!

Hey guys I haven't done circuit for too long until i forgot what is the correct form up...

For slope is it right left right left?
Going upwards is check back inwards. How about when you are below the slope do you checkback inwards or just on the right?

For E brake is it left right left right? Check inwards as well right?
Do u get points if u stall engine at Ebrake? even if u start engine immediately

    me too.

    I took 3x1.02 5x2.01 2x2.02 and waiting for the 3rd 2.02.

    shall I continue?

I always have issue moving off and controlling the clutch... even though I know what to do at each lesson.

For slope is right left right left. Only 4 motorbike allowed at once. If got car then don’t go up yet. Going upwards is check back inwards then when you go down is just check traffic and check right then move off with blindspot.

For E-brake is left right left right. Max only 8 motorbike allowed. If got 8 then wait near the gate but don’t block traffic. Check back inwards before moving off. For the stalling part I not so sure if will minus points but just try to clutch in earlier.

Sounds like u are from BBDC?
    what is 2.02 about?
If money is not an issue just continue la as long as u know how to cycle. 3 time 5 time very normal la. My 1st lesson took me 4 tries. IMO moving off/clutch control need time to get muscle memory and slowly u will be able to feel the bike like when it's going to stall or when u need to change your gear.

Yes i am from bbdc, but that thread is cold (2015)...

Thanks, I just cleared 2.02 which is changing lane and right turn.

now i am taking the narrow plank, this clutch control really hurts, is there any place I can practice without a license?

Ya don't know why the forum so dead.
hmmm no where legal to practice leh unless u go JB/bali/phuket...the only place i can think of is carpark but if u get caught the person who lend u bike also will get his license revoke...
So no choice need to just keep paying for lesson until you unlock self practice and then it will be cheaper.

    np just enjoy your lesson.

I just failed lesson 7 lol. I really tot I did well but apparently I got a lot of points from road test mainly from lane change....just need to focus on correcting this. I was praise on lane change in L5 n 6 don't know why i screw up this time! But nvm, I at least i know where to correct. Jia you everyone!

As they said, failure will lead to success eventually. Since you're at lesson 7, its inevitable of you getting 2b license very soon

Anw any tips to move up slope in prac 2? Isit ok to just throttle more? I feel its more hassle than the plank and pylon slalom

For slope, I feel that you just have to throttle to the right amount and maintain your clutch, you will be fine. When I started out I throttle a lot but I got minus points for it during Prac 4. So all I can advise you is to try and see whether throttling more or release your clutch a little further works better. As when you are taking TP, you may or may not get the bike that you are used to so ya play around and see what works best for you.

yes yes i know i am sooo near so i will not give up now...hehe

    For slope
    1. throttle first...u can throttle more for now..next time u are use to it u will know how much to throttle so don't worry abt this 1st la just wack abit more than usual.
    2. slowly release clutch and listen to the sound change (will get softer). once change and u can feel the clutch engage. *most impt point* HOLD and maintain the clutch level do not release any further.
    3. release rear brake ( for me i also throttle more when i start releasing the brake)

    Viola u are moving

Slope is definitely easier than plank and pylon once u get it.
