i got faster with more experienceactually it just opening a nut, let the oil drain and locking the nut. the part that take up most time is draining and house keeping.
to be more realistic, i should say it take 10-15mins
a few points i learn:
1) don't have to wait a good 10mins to drain those little droplets of oil. most oil should be out in a min or 2 especially when its warm. it doesn't make much different so save your time.
2) have the correct tools and material at hand. basic is a correct size spanner, fresh EO, rag, any material that act as drain pan, a bottle for used oil and don't forget your funnel
3) keep the area as clean as possible. it save time on house keeping as well as doesn't cause problem for others.
4) you do not need jerk and knock the spanner while tightening the bolt risking rounding or damaging the thread. there should be o ring or some sort of gasket on the bolt so hand tighten will be more then enough.
5) dispose the used oil properly. remember to wrap it carefully as most engine oil bottle will leak. trust me, it not fun to have your box dirty by used engine oil![]()

where do you dispose the old oil?
When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.
got box got tour.
Yeap i was told by the shops tat we can deposit used oil in the drums too.

with what you've put me through, still i love you.
yes. change within 6 months or risk metal pitting, corrosion, oil turn acidic from soot or total thermal melt down!!!![]()
nay... you will just lose 10mins of the engine life
most modern oil is robust enough for long life. the truth is it not easy to reduce the TBN to level that is worthy to be notice. in the states, it is very common for motorcycle to have yearly change after winter or even longer. lots of UOA out there to prove the point.
don't have to lose sleep over it. do what make you feel better.
Hi,

Hi, I came across an item called liquivac. Supposedly it sucks oil from the dipstick side and you can pour in the fresh oil after that. You can google it if interested. But its not very cheap thou.

Hi guys, do u all use torque wrench to tighten back the engine oil drain nut according to the manual specific Nm for the nut?? And where to get the oil filter wrench???
unless u have an absolutely well calibrated high-end torque wrench, i suggest avoid doing so. it is so easy to strip drain plugs. just do it by feel and make sure use a new washer. start engine, if leak, tighten lor. personally small bolts and drain plugs i do it by feel. only large fittings like axles then i use torque wrench.

Well, if you dont make a mess, it wouldnt be a problem.
Oil filter wrench, get the cup from ah boy. About the torque, hand tighten then use the wrench and turn a little. If still leaking, loosen then tighten again.
I dont have a washer.
The aluminum very soft so dont over tighten.

Not as good as it sounds.
You'll have the oil soaked tubing to keep, the bottle will invariably need to be wiped down. The amount of oil removed depends where you are able to position of the tube opening in the sump, there will be more residual oil compared to draining.
It's good if the drain point is low or inaccessible like in boats.
For low quantities and where draining is not an issue, draining is best and free. I cut off the side of an old oil bottle as the drain pan and use the pour spout to transfer into another old bottle. Use those 4L car oil bottles. You can pick them up from the bins of car workshops.
If you're hardworking enough, can accumulate enough from the residual.
Drain pan = $3.90 IKEA 5L Samla plastic container. Low and wide enough to catch oil from oil filter and drain plug at the same time with large margin of error in positioning, corners are handily drip-free. Easy to pour used oil back in to bottles.
Bought a roll of those anti-slip mats for $2 at nearby hardware store. Cut pieces out to use as grab and hold mitts in an oily environment, provides good grip on tool handles, engine casings, and Oil Filters. I spin it on till it hits the gasket then hand tighten whilst grabbing it with the piece of anti-slip mat as hard as I can. No tools. Never had any leakage.
Tip on reusing washers. If they're copper, heat them over any old gas flame until they glow red then let it air cool. Anneals copper, making it softer and crushes nicely. Ultimately it will still thin out from all that crushing and need to be replaced.
Agree.. Too expensive as well..

Bros, any tips/guides to DIY eo change for r15 v2? Much appreciated
Work on a level surface
Use a proper 6 socket wrench with sufficient leverage
Have the correct amount and grade of engine oil. Try to use the good stuff.
It is easier to top up when you have put too little engine oil in than to remove when you have over filled.
Have alot of rags around.
