Is it accurate?Ducati parts r expensive,man.
I wanted to change the lens of my RPM meter due to some stains but was told must get a full set.I have since drop the idea.
By the way what bike r u riding?

Prodrive,
Have u got yr 996SPS aly?
Hi james,

It's good to see this thread's still alive . Unfortunately I haven't got my bike yet as I'm still overseas and won't be back until sometime after CNY. For now, I'm stll trying to get a feel of the market for the 916 and 996 models. So far there's one sp3 which was on the previous classifieds section asking for 17k! For that price I was thinking I might as well go for the 996 instead . Anyway, I still do check back here every now and then, so lets keep this thread alive. Nice knowing you and the others here!

Cheers!

cant help but love the ducati thing man.. bloody unique bike.. steel trellis frame, desmodromic valve management, L90 vtwin, the twin pipes, wonderful tune it sings and even the hydraulic clutch. all features combined are specifically unique to ducati, be it a monster, st2/3/4, 916, 1000ss and so on and so forth.

anyone whos not sampled a duke should try once and chances are u'd fall in love with it..

wonderful bike.

Hi,shoei.
TLR are one of my fav bikes too.(i still of a poster of it at my bedrm wall)
Wanted to get one in 2001 but got alot of negative views of the bike.Like heavy in weight, hot air throught yr thighs when riding, etc.Brought an R1 instead.Only after 2 yrs of riding it,then change to a 996.
I have check out the yahoo site for ducati and find it abit boring,nt like our section here.
I nv hear the orginal pipes before as I change it to Temins together wif the bike.Full bore sound.

Hi,Prodrive.
Hope u can a nic one when u come back.Just keep looking.Dun be like me,brought a 2nd hand 996 over market value as that time nv check out market, conned by shop.

i am also aiming for a Ducati 996/998
any of u guys know how much it costs for a 2nd hand one although i heard it's kinda hard to find...

Hi,mika14.
It will depend on how much U love the bike.
A FP 916 will cost ard 10-14K depending on condition & accs.
A 916SPs will cost ard 18-20K depending on condition & accs.
A FT 996 will cost ard 20-23K depending on condition & accs.
A 996SPs will cost ard 23-26K depending on condition & accs.
A 998 will cost ard 23-28K depending on condition & accs.
A 998SPS heard tat only 2 in s'pore, dun kw if its true.
Maintainance is slightly higher during the servicing interval, but I find it normal for oil changes and minor servicing.
As ducati dun have chiong parts,so LL gt to use original parts.(Jap Bikes if uses orginal parts also not cheap)
How I wish tat ah boy have spares for dukes too

Cheers.

wow...

that means a 2nd or 3rd hand Ducati is equal to a 1st hand jap class 2 bike in terms of costs...
i heard one of the most expensive servicing for Ducatis is valve clearance which have to be done every 10000km and it costs not less than S$700...
but i still like Ducatis over Jap bikes lehz...

u dun need to know much.just get ready 800 bucks.they will do a valve clearance, timing belts change and bearing change if nessecary, engine oil and plugs and filter change, checking every nuts on the torque are some major parts they do.
definally a good nice bike wash before u pay up and ride off with a torn pocket.

Hi James,

Just wanted to share.... brought my ST4 for it's 20,000 km interval servicing....set me back by $1.2k plus. Definitely a hole in the pocket but the feeling thereafter when riding the bike makes it worth it.

Just one comment though, I had my brake pads changed to Brembo OEM as I find them absolutely fabulous. But they are sort of on the steep side. If you know of any other alternative pads that can give as equal a performance.. you may want to change to those. Hear Carbon Lorraines are good. As I did not want to gamble, I stuck by the Brembos. Just a suggestion.

One last thing... I read this quote from a Ducati Owner's website:

"Very often the decision to own a duke is not based on hard measurables like service costs".

Guess we just have to think about riding and not the cost *sigh* But the thought of riding another bike besides my Duke.... Nah... I'll just bear the cost.

Regards,
Seal

Hi Jeff,

Great to find you here bro. Maybe we can communicate here rather than via SMS. Hope you'd understand as it is diffcult to access my h/p while I am on duty.... the reason why I can't respond fast to your SMS queries.

Hi Guys,

Some riders from the S'pore Ducati forum along with their fellow riders are organising a trip to Mersing / Kuantan this coming CNY weekend 25/01/04 (Sunday). We should set off in the morning and return by mid afternoon.

Anyone keen to join? It will be a great opportunity for Duke and other riders to meet.

Regards,

Hi seal,
Jus like U said,Definitely a hole in the pocket but the feeling thereafter when riding the bike makes it worth it.
I think its better and safer to have a certified and good mech to do the bike than have any Tom,###### or Harry.Eugene is one good one U can trust.

Ducati is not the top notch of bikes but is certainly the Dreams of most Bikers(At least for me)
Owning one have sure make my dreams can true.

As for the brake pads,I think its wise of u to stick to using back the pads.I hear tat EBC is nt bad but I have try it before.I had used Carbon Lorraines and find it makan the disc and the the braking power nt tat gd.(On my other bikes)

As for the ride on CNY weekend 25/01/04,cant make as it is CNY.Its time for family gatherings and reunions.

Cheers
mika14,will indeed keep U update.

yea, wasnt loud coz i had to keep it soft coz we saw two tp bikes, remember?

its geared very tall and i was going at 3k rpm, and it was abt 90km/h.

anyway, i have to say again, your st4 looks excellent and well maintained
Hehe.. Thanks for the compliments, bro. Must be the street lighting that helps.

Oh Yah, the TPs.....

Anyway, I think most ducatis are geared very high, maybe U can change the sprocket.

Heard a 999 at the workshop today. Doesnt sound as nice as one with termis.

Regards,
Seal
Yo bro, I agree with U, riding the duke makes all occasional hiccups and servicing charges worth it.

I am using Carbon Lorraines now. Not bad, way cheaper than Brembo.

As usual, I wont be going for the trip. Would be either busy working or visiting.

Cheers.
Hi James,

Glad u r enjoying your bike.

Was looking for a 998 but seriously no one wants to sell. If u know anyone selling at the price dont mind can get back to me. Neither could i find anyone who wanted to sell a 996SPS at that time except for mary =p but no money u see

Anyway think u typo, cos there is'nt such a thing as a 998SPS only the normal ver, S ver, and R ver. U would be right to say that there are 2 998Rs in singapore though .

Hi mika14,
Yup,tats the amount.Real envy him.
748 is not tat popular and rare in singapore. Most pple who get it r expats.
The maintenance is almost the same just tat the power and price diff.

ive not ridden a 748 so i myself dont really know. its more for the track nut where more throttle can be used when exiting corners as the power is less. dont have so much worries abt high siding it on full throttle.
the bike is not much lighter than its bigger brother tho.

in my opinion most Ducati 916/996/998 owners are mostly expats anyway...
seldom see Ducati 916/996/998 in heartland HDB carparks anyway...

Hi mika14,
I am working in the navy as a tech.Actually, there is nt much to maintain the bike, jus 3mths change oil and filter as I dun used it often.
I staying at clementi but my 996 is parked at my gf plc as her plc is a muti-storey carpark.(away fr the rain and sun)U can always call me out for a cup of kopi to see the bike,my friend.

As for the diff,996 is using the 3-spoke rims as 916,998 is using muti-spokes type.
There's no exterior differences between all 3 bikes.
