Erm, tried it before, not that powerful if you asked me. I think even the Sunny fare better, but I don't know the technical numbers. It might be the pedal action, too. Maybe I am too used to the acceleration of bikes.

Japanese cars too light already, maybe thats why u feel its powerful. But high speed unstable.

Somemore altis so common like taxis. Not worth the money.

I think ford focus is better. Continental car better.

You should try seating in Sunny CVTC 1.6L Luxury Model. Sqzeeze the pedal and you know the power.

I not driving Sunny but I really feel the acc.. of CVTC. Btw, I driving a kia cerato.

To my FR, couple of my buddies doing resale of 2nd car. Altis is a good car in term of $$ and FC plus comfort and space. Its a car value for $$$. 1.6L VVTI, good FC than my baby pig cerato!!!

Anyway, I will not spend so much money in Singapore to own a taxi-like car which is everywhere. I will own something more rare or special but cheaper. It cost too much to drive a taxi 70-80k. Somemore running on petrol. A comfort cab runs on diesel cheaper yet still can earn money.

well, should I consider tat as a compliment for altis?
I believe pple are not stupid too to buy a 60-70k "taxi" unless its really economical, comfortable & gd.

wat do u base ur comment on? i m here i north carolina for 6mth n wat i c is more jap car then any conti or american car.
jap car not stable? u should c the altis or other jap cars zoom pass me while i was driving at 70-80mph on the highway
when a car is classified as a "taxi" it can onli be a compliment 'cos its popularity is a testimony by itself. btw vvti engine was vote engine of the year by magazines for the pass couple of years & toyota productiion plants is also voted to have product of the highest qc with <4% of fault comparing other major automotive giants.
oh! local mag here has voted toyota camary (bigger bro of corolla) as car of the for the 3yr in a roll

Altis is infact a good family car to start with. Low FC, ample space and good enough power to travel in city as well as expressway. Most importantly good price at $61,388 now.

I have a friend who own a FORD FOCUS and what he feedback is got money, spend it else where. FOrd is a no..no
Sold his car after 6 month and lost big $$$. In the end, ended up buying a HONDA CIVIC.

Btw, what car is not taxi like. How abt Benz...also taxi what! Some more Benz is a few times more expensive than your ford.

If i'm not wrong, the reason you compare Altis as Taxi is due to the popularity of this car which make you feed this way. Btw, this $62K Taxi can you afford it?
Have you test drive a Altis in highway before and how you know this Taxi is not stable. If your answer is NO.....please lah

If a person can afford continental car, why go for Ford which cost more than $75K and a miserable 100bhp...Wau lau...somemore, some FORD model made in Philipines and in term of durability still not on par with some good continental car maker. Cheaper Continental car but very expensive in term of servicing and spare parts. FYI if you dun know, Ford Focus share the same platform as Mazda3. So can consider a mixed blood continental lah bro

In Singapore, car is a liability and will depreciate as years goes by. Most ppl will look for Fuel saving or relatively cheap car. If wanna go for speed, japanese car such as Subaru and Honda or even Toyota can let Ford smell some Carbon monoxide easily.

FYI, in term of speed, I can bet Altis can out run the 100bhp standard Ford FOCUS anytime anywhere. And in terms of durabilty Ford is no where in Singaporean Dictionary. Some more, status wise, FORD is a big question mark(???) as if you tell ppl you own a FORD, reply will be "So what...no big deal". ON the other hand, if you tell ppl you own a Benz or BMW, ppl will sure admire you and respect you.

Quite confuse in your comment comparing Altis with Ford. Should have compare a Korean maker vs a Jap maker vehicle wat...hohohoooooo

If have too much $$$ and no where to spend, get a better Continental car lah!
FORD........

Should think twice before commenting and thread starter is asking for Altis comment and not other car. Please kindly stick to the question and not going off topic. All in all, Altis is a good budget car to own

yap...i also agree but in term of durability and FC your retired father will be very happy. Altis is strictly for "Mature" man only

If you wanna make this boring car alive, $$$ can make it fly or invest on other super duper car that can out run TP WRX

I'm not looking to outrun anyone. Just prefer other brands

anyway, relative to the other cheap cars out there if you are making comparisons on those grounds, I'll probably go get a Hyundai Santa Fe.

Altis is value-for-money all-rounder car. Sure will get someone like it/againist it. But being popular or boring nothing to the car for some users. Maintenance, performance, FC, COST, resale value also under consideration. If you never drive/own an Altis, better stay sideline. Me ride phantom, drive Altis. Phantom/Altis always get people say too common & lousy, but it fit most of people budget & needs. That is why it is so common on the road.

If anyone interested in Altis, you can go to http://forum.toyotaclubsg.com for more info.

Here is my review:

Engine: VVTi, quite powerful for me, stock car reach 90km/h at 2.2k rpm, 100km/h at 2.4k rpm. The top speed is stated as 180km/hr

Maintenance: under 3 yr warrenty like most of car. change EO every 10k. Easy to maintain

FC: 12.5KM/L for a 1600kg auto car

Space: spacious than vios & honda city. Similar to Honda Civic for space.

Most import is pricetag is 61k.

2 colleauge of mine bought Hyundai Santa Fe end last yr. i fello has constant prob with the car, though it is still under warranty but going in & out the work shop wasted lots of his time. btw the FC also damn siong <400km hit rev liao
agree with u that corolla is kinda boring to drive but given its relatively high comfort level, price tag and overall low maintaince cost is a big draw to budget buyers like me

bro y ur FC so bad i always manage 600km-650km b4 rev & top-up ~40L that makes it 15km-16km/L r u using shell? i tried shell b4 but the milage really sucks have been using syn8000 for pass 2yr
btw know 1 old duke driving the manual version & he claim he mostly hit 700km b4 rev

I'm not looking to outrun anyone. Just prefer other brands?

anyway, relative to the other cheap cars out there if you are making comparisons on those grounds, I'll probably go get a .
Hahahaa....not "Kay Chua" lah..I think is "Kay zhua" if this is what you mean lah.
Just telling everybody a fact what....if you dun like it ...not my problem lah bro

Getting this Hyundai Santa Fe is really your choice???
Then all the best to you
Dun say i didn't warned you. FYI, I myself drove a Korean car before and going to workshop a few times within a month with broken clutch cable and ECU problem and yet can't rectify my problem.....you will understand how i feel with all the waste of time.
Bear in mind that IF you wanna get a cheap car and yet paying all those high Rd tax cum low FC (currently on high side) as well as super duper rock bottom 2nd value if you wanna sell it off by all means. Many ppl got this kind of mind set that buying a cheap car can save a lot compare to buying a Japan car...in the end, you will know which is cheaper lah. you better follow your retired dad to own a retired car lah...can save more and you can be a Retired Son

15km-16km/L is too high for me, never achieve it. I can reach 600km b4 the light come out, But I ususally pump more than 40L. Maybe yours is G9, not Altis, because Altis is 1600kg, much heary than previous version. I also use Esso8000. Because my bike use it for long time already.

Hmm... I'm driving Altis.. i wanted to buy Mazda RX-8 cos i'm a vain person. But keep postponing till now cos hubby just couldn't let go our ALtis.. Why? Simple.. Cos it's a good car.. it's rated Best Family Car of the yr! Good value and performance! If not you wont see so many Altis on the road right.. Singaporeans are smart! Those who drive a Altis should know how good our car is, so long we're comfy with it who bothers whether it's a Taxi or not..

i haf no comment on toyoto altis FC or engine which is made in japs
but nowadays due to manufacture cost, they move to thai n assembly most parts there, n i heard the car's body made in thai, erm.. corrosion resistant very poor, metal quality used poorgrade. tats a letdown. ..

if only everything jus perfect... , i no need buy another car after 10 yrs

talking abt this, i find nowadays resale value of a econ/mid size car shouldn't be taken into consideration when one's buying a car, reason is super low COE/Parf, irregardless of what makes/model u drive on a 10 years loan finance on minium D/payment, like it or not, u will be stuck to the car for the next 7 years, or risk forking out Tens of thousands if u wish to sell before 7 years.

Personally Altis is the most value for $$$ to me as compared to other makes, ABS/EBD/Immobiliser/After sales service from Boneo Motors, etc etc, Gd as a family car. Even my poorly serviced Vios doesn't even gives me any mechanical problem for the past 2 year plus. For a family/individuals that could only afford 1 car, spending ur $$$ on a Toyota, is a choice.

Used to own smaller 1liter car, noticed space and efficiency was an issue. I hate the feeling of driving it with a full load 5 adults passing a hump. Confirm hit the underbody.

it al depends on how much u load & the paper value at the point of sales. that is y i always discourage ppl from taking high loan or taking longer then u can afford to repay

hi, my dad is going to get a new Altis. he is going to scrap his 3 yrs old sunny and may be can take back 36k...
he is going to pay full cash for the new Altis, so i would like to check with you where is the best place to get new Altis? he went to borneo motor test drive already, the sales person told him if he take a 1 year loan of 20k, he will get a cash back of 1500, and then interest of 20k is about 500 a year. seems pretty worth it.
the Altis will be come in standard package, any other freebies we can get from them? like 10 cd changer, leather seat, tinted windows & body kits...

any other place offer better deal than borneo?

It really depends who you know that matters....

If you're really keen on the Toyota (Or rather most of the brands), PM me. I will try to help connect you to someone that can help. Those who are "asking for fun or curiousity", please look elsewhere. I am only sincere to help genuine car buyers.
