in my time with my XJR, even a good mechanic turned bad, over foul advices. not only they compared the XJR directly to another readily available bike, they often make 'assumptions or knee jerk reactions answers once too many'. not ez to find a trustworthy mech worth the $$$ spent, but we always have to try nevertheless. the truth is' no one put the gun on our head to buy that bike, its can be a decision that may rue your day, but if you can see the light at the end of it, its worth every single time you ride your bike. yup, she was that good, to me.

hope these advices will be of help to lessen the stress & hopefully you could find the solution to it, soon enough.

for one, let me welcome you onboard the rare yamaha XJR400RR. WelcoME to XJR Singapore(2007-2012). (find us @FB Club XJR Singapore) before having your clutch plates/steel plates check, try engine oil Motul 300V(a little pricey at betw S$28-30++) but is known to be smooth by XJR users here. personally, i used to use 7100 Motul for years & at times when my pocket allows it then, the 300v. or you could have a good trusty mech to have a look in at your clutch plates, (or perhaps first of all, try adjusting your clutch cables?) its a good bike with little mechanical problems, one t

o my, thats bad news. r u going to seek a second opinion from a different mech? i read again & what air filter is that costing up to $250? stock air filters is less than $60 & aftermarket K&N filters cost about S$120/- Oh wait, u must meant that the new carb rubbers x4 + airfilter = $250/-. i recco you go to K&T, see clifford hereafter, just ask for second opinion. or try Ah Chong from Planet, no, i dont patron Planet, but older members who seen him(and SBF members alike), have positive reviews, just long waiting period. click here http://www.singaporebikes.com/

i ridden the xjr400 for 7-8 years and 'the electronics part at right side of the carburetor' have not given me any problem at all. about the idling being low, how about seeing a mech for it? sometimes, a improper fuel / air adjustment is all it take to normalise the bike idlling again. an increase in RPM, is notthing to be worried about. check the air filter, carbs, throttle adjustment first before worrying. the petrol system uses vacuum, so have it look in. have you seen any mech as reccomended here?

that problem is quite common the XJR often leak at the top engine cover i used to do mine at Chong Aik Serangoon but that shop & mech have since moved, and i have not seen him for awhile now some recco Ah Chong Planet myself, i used to patron K&T at Ubi Road 1, Blk 3007. (btw Planet is also on the same stretch of road, just other end) so maybe you want to look em up. price wise, not so sure as mine was some years back. hope these help. have it rectify quicky. a heavy leakage of engine oil, may harm the lub system, esp so, since XJR is air cooled bike.
