  2. A word of advice my friend, before you begin the project..... do make sure that all mods done are reversible and that you keep all the original parts that you have replaced or customised. Café mods look great and many shops do very good customising work. I myself have not done any, but people I have met have very nice café mods, and the CM125 is a nice bike to work on. Do remember the yearly inspections and the patrolling LTA enforcement officers armed with their cameras.   4. Thanks for that 736, I see an old Goldwing there in that line up of old classics. There is talk about that AT plate Kawa pictured in front of a coffee shop, and the pics confirm this. Have not seen the bike around prior to this pic though, but this is clearly not the classic 4 into 4 Kawa 900, the frame is different. This is in fact the 4 into 2 Z1000A from 1977, altered to look like the 4 into 4 Z900A4 model from 1976, the last 900cc 4 piper in the range from the 70's. The people on this thread, in particular 736cc, have loads of leads and information and seem to know what to find and where to go to find it. I do believe that many of these bikers will be able to point you in the right direction. I have heard that many good mechanics have either retired, have no shop space at the moment or shy away from the older classics for some reason.   6. Thanks so very much for that Throttle, a scene from Mad Max to be sure. Looks like all the old inline four Kawa's were featured if you look closely, from the very firts Z1 to the coffin tank Z1R of 1978, all were in that scene. If you ever get that chance, there is another old biker movie out of AU called Stone. It's about an under cover cop or something blike that and it is very similar to the Mad Max type of film. All the old bikes steal the show, the Honda 4's and big Kawa's too. Have you seen this one? It's pretty old now.

  9. Saw a RD500LC at Sin Ming being inspected at STA a few days ago. Chinese owner in his 40's I think. Bike is red and white and looks super for it's age. Owner rode it there and rode it away, it's a FF plate. Sadly, I did not get a chance to speak to him as he was already riding off when I got there. Anyone seen this bike around? Like to track down the owner as I have always wanted one of these as many of you know. Any leads will be appreciated...... thanks in advance.   13. He was always expensive as he was in debt to the bank and the landlord for his shop rent. He had no choice. Many bikes were brought to his brothers Yishun shop and parked along the main road. Many were scrapped, including those rusting at his open air store. I was there and I witnessed these rusty classics as they were being loaded onto lorries to be sent to the scrapyard. Not a good time for him.
  14. Lucky You then! I have been visiting his shop since the 80's and this did not happen every time I was there, but I did witness it, twice actually. On both occasions, locals commented that his asking price was too high. Anyway, Zoom In is history and let's leave it there shall we. Combine in Sin Ming has a good reputation. They have a regular customer whith a water cooled Suzuki GT750 2-Stroke Kettle. I would love to get hold of that one some day.
  15. Many of us have had very bad experiences with the owner of Zoom In. I do not wish to go into detail but those of us who have been around long enough know what kind of person he is and why he was forced to close his shop. It was only a matter of time. As far as I know, there are so few old Japanese bikes on the road these days that no shop can survive if they only concentrate on classic Japanese bikes. No wonder the former owner of Zoom In is now in Yishun spending his time tricking out Yamaha TW200's and changing engine oil on RXK's and Honda CG's................ something he refused to do bac
  16. Is it a GS400 or a GS425? I have been looking for a GS400 for years, I thought they were all gone. I saw a GS425 though. The price for a 1978 GS400 is a little high though, as the COE is now $2500, so depends on condition. No parts though. If you are not interested, so pass on the contact details if possible please. I would love to see the bike again.
  17. Not sure how to spell it but I think the shop name is Yi Yang or Yee Yang..... something like that. Shop boss ( one man show ) is always in blue overalls. We talking about the same shop? The bike in the shop is not for sale unfortunately, many people have asked . Don't quite know of any old Z1 or Z1000 from the 70's that is up for sale. I don't think that these old Zed's will be cheap even if they were and parts are hard to find locally. Thank goodness for the worldwide web! May be a good idea to look for something a little more common. You will have to look around.
  18. Hi, how do you know it's a Z1? Is the bike in a bike shop? There is a big Kawa in a bike shop in West Coast, and it has been there for some years now, but it's not a Z1, it's a Z1000A and it is not running. Yup, the owner is Japanese who has been here for several years. He's not selling as far as I know. There is another green AN plate Z1 look-alike running around, but it's not a Z1. This green AN plate is another Z1000A as well. The Z1 is a 900cc with 4 into 4 exhaust system. Very nice on the Z1, but the Z1000A came out in 1977 with a 4 into 2 exhaust system...... not as nice. It was the DT125E I believe, the last one on the road here I guess. So sad. You mentioned that this is an old picture of the bike, have you made changes to it?
  20. I see, that will be hard. Can't remember when I last saw one aside from that TS185 that I went to see a couple of years back. A shop in Sembawang area had a 1978 Yamaha DT125 last year but it had already been scrapped! I have not seen a 70's scrambler on the road in years and I fear they no longer exist. I will keep my eyes open for you though.
  21. I know of one TS185 left as it was advertised for sale some time ago, it was far too expensive for me though. Are you looking for 1970's scramblers or 1980's? I guess we can consider 1990's scramblers vintage as well as they will be almost 20 years old now. There was a shop at Balestier Rd with many of them not too long ago. I passed by one day and could no longer find his shop. He had the DT175, Honda MTX200, XL185, XL200, XR200, Kawa KMX125.... and a few more. Wish I knew where he went.

Please feel free to visit and check out the bike shops and part shops in the vicinity you mentioned but I can say for sure, if you are after parts for the early AT1, DT1-3 or DT1C...... or any early Yamaha, you will be disappointed. What was common here in the late 70s was the DT125/175E. Even the DT250 of 1975 no longer exists and I have never seen the later DT125/175J or any of the Yamaha ITs survive either.
