Just to share- I distinctly remember my instructor at CDC ever mention when he went overseas training, the ang mo asked him to put 20cent coin between his tank and thighs and grip tightly to complete 1 lap without dropping the coin or coins. Just out of curiosity I tried doing this one month ago (never put coin la, jus keep reminding myself to keep gripping) and IMO for those riding street/race bikes especially, by gripping on the tank with both your thighs tightly is beneficial in several ways (pls correct me if I'm wrong):
1. better handling
2. put ur weight forward and better prevent tank slap
3. train ur inner thigh muscles & somehow it actually improves sexual prowess
4. improves ippt shutter run and 2.4 timing (a little bit)
5. feel more confident when lane splitting (cos u "merge" with ur bike)
6. prevent palm numbness
I think only downside is very siong at beginning of this regime, need to be always aware and trying to make it a habit was not easy. Also when riding with pillion it's almost double the stress on ur thigh muscles due to inclination... also I'm quite worried what will happen if my muscle cramp when riding 90-100Km/h on PIE (luckily didn't happen la). Riding was definitely less enjoyable at the beginning but after a month I enjoy riding more than before! FYI I ride almost daily from Tampines to NTU about 80Km to and fro.
PS: if u're up for it, try at ur own risk
