Hello guys!

I was just wondering whether is it safe for me to pour isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol) into my fuel tank to give it an extra OOMPH? Will it be safe and most importantly, give me that power boost i need? :)

Don't pour IPA in! Those IPA you get from pharmacies and hospitals contain 70% alcohol and 30% water - so overall you are adding harmful water to your fuel.

Unless of course, your fuel is contaminated with water. In this case you could use pure / anhydrous IPA to remove the water - but an easier way will be to throw out the contaminated fuel and dry the entire tank.

A proper octane booster, engine modifications (e.g. porting), or a dyno-and-tune run will do better than an experimentation with IPA ...

walau... fierce....

I wouldn't recommend it mate....

But if by any chance you actually try it, please let us know the reaction.

:)

Its not about hard you can hit, its about how many times you can take a hit and remain standing

if the alcohol burns hotter... and can damage head gaskets, mebbe the cylinder head too if its warped.

If the engine was not modified or designed to use higher octane fuels... why really go and look for trouble??

But if by chance it really does work... please let me know. This would be a way cheaper way of getting horsepower out of my race bike than to spend thousands of dollars on aftermarket race parts and race fuels.

Wah lao you all scare me sia! I just wanted to put an innocent amount into my tank like 1 capful or something. I read somewhere that they used ethanol to fuel some dragsters in the US. So i thought of putting IPA into my tank.

If IPA is 30% water, do you have any idea how to extract the water so that i can get almost pure alcohol, lets say, 95%-98%? :)

buy a distillation kit to get the pure alcohol out.

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.

ethanol or so called methanol are added in gasoline in other coutries.. they call this petrol E10 E20 E30.. this contains more than 100 octane.. and its cleaner to produce by sugar and yeast.. and it burns cleaner.. these vehicles are equipt with a special chip to change the firing setting for the E10, etc fuels.. fuel flex chip.. E10 means 10 percent methanol in the gasoline.. i tried on my previous ybr.. cant really feel the difference... pure acetone doesnt really work much too.. can see the mileage gain slightly...

my two babes..

yes use "methylated spirit" its ethanol & methanol mix i think. About $3-$4 for a beer bottle size at most paint shops. But i suggest not putting more than 10% to get yr own E10 mix cos it will erode rubber gaskets. You will get higher octane, cleaner & hotter burn and more expansion power but probably not noticeable or significant. I tried Octane Booster before (those $6.50 bottles at supermarkets) they also make slight difference.

Motard Man >> MZ Motorradd << where can i get one ?

Are octane boosters any good? My YBR is drinking unleaded 92. :(

I use nail polish remover when I need acetone until I found pure acetone in small bottle at Guardian Pharmacy :thirsty:

beside the boost, the other thing you may consider are a pair of wings attached to your bike. :D
