Zards slip ons are street legal.. ive got a fren using it on his 848..

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of fitting Zards instead of Termis for my Future Ducs

Was wondering whether it's street legal or not? (just the slip-on)

Will it breach the warranty?

Thanks in advance :)

Checa MotoGP-Fast At Phillip Island

The quick time set by Checa in third stage of the Formula-1 inspired Superpole competition was a 1’30.882, just enough to take honors from Biaggi’s time of 1’30.895.

One of the fascinating things about racing, especially motorcycle racing, is how a lack of horsepower (and, therefore, top speed) can be overcome. Unless we were able to get a look at the data downloaded from the two machines, we could not put numbers to the obvious: the big twin is making it up on the brakes and through the bends.

Top speeds on the lap that the quickest times were set by the two veterans are very far apart. Biaggi's Aprilia was timed at 315 km/h (195.7 mph) on the Italian's fastest lap, while the Spaniard beat that time by .013 of a second on a relatively low-revving twin that droned down the Gardner Straight at 302 km/h (187.7 mph).

The very fastest runs by these two very different machines both came from earlier sessions. Biaggi's Aprilia hit 321 km/h (199.5 mph) in the second qualifying session on Saturday, prior to Superpole, while Checa´s Ducati managed a pass of 307 km/h (190.8 mph) in the first free session on Friday.

*ps the ducati is holding back by a air restrictor imposed by the fim,so if they keep on winning the restrictor 'll stay in place , if they goes back to europe & they win less ,the authorities might enlarge it,like what they do last year with the weight issue.

world superbike is technically very complicated now.

what u see is might NOT what u get???

MotoGP Vs. SBK

Carlos Checa's Superpole time that landed him on the pole for World Superbike season opener would have been good enough to have placed the Spaniard on the front row of the MotoGP grid at last season's Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Admittedly, the weather conditions were worse for MotoGP; the ambient temperature was hovering around a chilly 50 degrees when Casey Stoner set his amazing time of 1´30.107 on the Ducati Desmosedici 800. Checa's time was set with a warmer temperature of around 59 degrees with correspondingly higher track surface temperature and there were also strong gusts of wind coming off the Bass Strait when Stoner established a new record for the 800cc class.

So there is no straight comparison between the MotoGP machines -- lighter and with carbon brakes -- against the heavier Superbikes with their steel brakes. But it is impossible to avoid the temptation to create a virtual mixed MotoGP/SBK grid (which appears below). More significant, however, is the contrast between the Ducati 1098 (1198cc) twin and the RSV4 Aprilia (999.6cc).

It is still too early to jump to any conclusions -- but it looks, in spite of Ducati’s complaints, that the handicapping system between 1000cc fours and 1200cc twins is not far off.

A more significant question might be whether these bikes are road bikes homologated for the track -- as the original Superbike philosophy intended -- or in reality, racebikes homologated for the road. That is another kettle of fish.

It is temping to speculate what would happen if these two Superbikes were mixed into the MotoGP grid. If we go back to the last time the MotoGP 800s ran at Phillip Island, last October in round 16 of the 2010 season, we see, rather surprisingly, that Checa's would have bumped Ben Spies on the Tech3 Yamaha M1 off the first row -- a first row that would have been led by Casey Stoner. (By the way, Stoner's Ducati stormed down the Gardner Straight at 323.4 km/h or 200.994 mph during the final MotoGP qualifying session.

Just for the fun of it, imagine the first two rows (using the three-per-row MotoGP formula):

First Row

1. Casey Stoner (Ducati Desmosedici 800cc) 1’30.107

2. Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha M1 800cc) 1'30.775

3. Carlos Checa (Ducati 1098, 1198cc) 1'30.882Second Row

4. Max Biaggi (Aprilia RSV4) 1'30.895

5. Sylvain Guintoli (Ducati 1098, 1198cc) 1'31.293

6. Ben Spies (Yamaha M1 800cc) 1'31.386

Wouldn’t that have been an interesting mix?

*look out for # 7 ?

Hi guys! Can i ask a few questions b4 i decided to sell off my car and get a 1098/1198. I heard tat the old 916/996/998 encounter alot of electrical problems when they r often ridden on the road. Are the new 1098/1198 model made to be ridden everyday? As in a transport bike tat bring me to and fro from work.

Will appreciate ur comments.

I beg ur pardon? My 17 yrs old 916 gt no electrical problems so far.. Only leaking coolant tanks bt that problem is nw history after i changed to an aluminium coolant tank. Electrical issues will arise to any make or model prior to failure in maintainance and regular lubricating of the wire connectors.

Bro, I've owned 916 and 998 series. For sure the newer models have fewer problems. Alkapot is right, most electrical issues come from poor maintenance. Some in 748/998 series had problems with water in electrics but this was usually fixed in the service process with a bit of insulation tape here and there.

What I would say is that if you are riding a distance the 1098/1198 will be more comfortable. The older bikes are awesome but will crunch your thumbs and numb your arse. Doesn't make them worse, just that Ducati only discovered ergonomics with the 999 series. Lastly, if it's a daily ride then reliability is critical so the newer the bike the better is general rule.

...too many to list

I was just been told tat tis bike is not suitable for everyday riding. wear and tear rate is higher than those Jap bike. Is it true?
