Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help throw some light on my problem? My honda phantom TA200 (4 hand bike) sometimes refuse to engage to 1st gear from neutral. I have to tap a few times or very hard to force it neutral. Once moving, the bike have no problem changing gears. Gear shift is smooth and no jumping of gear either. I like to shift to neutral when waiting at traffic lights (imagine my embarassment when light turns green and I am stuck). This thing also happen altho very rarely when I am just starting up the bike cold. Appreciate any help, thanks alot!

Ok, will try to change engine oil but doubt it though. Thanks.

Any other ideas appreciated. I thought maybe something wrong gear box like shift fork bend or some lost bit but not sure. Cheers.

maybe ur clutch has got very little free play. i explain about clutch abit.

from neutral to go to 1st gear, it would be easy if ur clutch free play is minimal, meaning ur half clutch is far away from ur hand grip and when changing back to neutral from 1st gear, it would be very difficult.

The situation is reversed when lets say u make ur half clutch mark nearer to ur hand grip. From neutral to 1st gear would be very easy but still from 1st gear to neutral would be very difficult. So u have to find a halfway mark where ur most comfortable.

If after adjusting ur clutch cable free play, u still encounter this problem, go to a mechanic and find out whats wrong. Can be a lot of problem, either clutch plate, gear shifter, clutch assembly. This one must check.

Hope you find the solution. Cheers!

Yes, think I will have to get a mechanic to check it.....sigh, just that it happens only so randomly and not frequently. :sian:

ohhhhh sorry, i think this may solve your problem.

if u gonna shift from gear 1 to N (throttle abit)

if u gonna shift down from N to 1 (step and hold down the gear and slowly release the clutch) at some point it will drop to gear 1.

go try it
