Hi All Bikers,

Being driving for almost 35 years and given up driving (super costly to maintain without company's vehicle) and recently achieved my Class 2B. Went to view some pre-owned bikes for sale but had encountered sellers claiming about regular servicings and replacements of this and that and so on........all the sellers' words. When I asked for some documentation proof, the sellers just couldn't show them except with some old receipts which are quite intelligible and no proof that it was carried out for the bike.

I also have to declare that I was formerly a workshop I/C, meaning I did in-inspections for vehicles/engineering equipments due for Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services (PMCS) as well as repairs; writing of job-to-be-done on said vehicles; out-inspections and necessary road test/operation test before passing out, meaning road-worthiness & operation readiness. But, motorcycles was not in my class of expertise, but very similar.

I hope someone can point out to me the respective thread about "PMCS & Repairs Log" or similar in SBF. If there is, could admin pls move and merge this post.

I believe that a PMCS log (report card) must be maintained by all owners. It shows the historical "health and conditions" of the said machine and its state of servicibility/maintenance and where/when the machine was send for scheduled PMCS. This log book can help support the owner and boost the resale value of the machine when it is time to sell.

My recent experiences with bike-sellers claiming all sorts of work done on their bikes without any relevant documentations only made me doubtful. I still haven't got my bike. But, I am looking around.

Hmmm usually I'll note down on servicing date, what are the changes or problem incur but that's solely for my own references. Usually most of us don't practise it, but information can be tweaked... so reliability wise need to be questioned

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

For own references - that's if you want to use the bike until you scrap it. But, if your intention is to sell your bike after a few years, the proper loggings improve its resale value and speaks tons of the bike owner/seller. About whether what's recorded is reliable or not - well, that's another story.
