:: It has been four weeks since I first honourably got the title of an AJ Scooterist, the sparkling reflective insignia proudly placed on the front-left of April's legshield. Never did I expect this particular bunch of scooter lovers to be filled with passion, pride, harmony and not forgetting mindless despicable insanity that tends to throw you off your seat due to hysterical moments.

 

There was this particular day in early 2006 when I riding back from purchasing a pair of Jack Purcells when I had to make an emergency halt. The attempt to beat that yellow light failed me, but it paid off when from across the junction, a convoy of Classic Vespas made a left turn out of Ubi Avenue, going towards the direction of the PIE. That was the first time that I've seen the convoy of classic and vintage machines.

 

I was a lone rider then, my only ally was a friend riding a vintage Yamaha 125, but rarely did we have the time to go for a joyride. Found out eventually that the parade of Vespas I saw was a small part of the fleet called AJ Scooters. Time passes by, and I was browsing my Multiply.com network, and came across an online photo album filled with pictures taken at The Harmony Hub @ Bedok Reservoir Road. It was National Day. The Vespa community had a gathering, filling almost a quarter of the multi-purpose grounds. The AJs were there and I blardy missed the event. The urge to be part of them grows within.

 

It was quite a wait for April to be on the road. My 7-month wait paid off and a Classic Vespa was born. On the very day April came to rule the roads was the very day I intruded into the SBF Scooters Forum. Dug more interesting infos on this club. After a few days of chatting with online chatters, I decided not to wait no more but head down to Ah Joo's workshop and presented myself as Maestro to a humble couple known as *AJ SCOOTERS* and *TAZZY JR*, namely Aziz and Yati respectively. The meeting was short, but the welcome was overwhelming.

 

Days gone by and I did make my presence felt there almost every evening after work. Shamelessly, in my heart, I was wishing and hoping to have an AJ insignia on my legshield. My wish eventually came to light when out of the blue, Aziz came up to me, with an AJ insignia in his hand and asked me for a clean rag to wipe off the dirt on April. The alignment was to be a perfect 10. At that moment, the excitement in me was like overworked springs of an old grandfather clock bursting around hysterically. There and then, I officially became part of AJ Scooters.

 

The pride that I have now is as fresh as it was since the first day I had that insignia. One thing for sure of this band of scooterists; they are simply care-less of what kind of scooter you own, or how un-vintage-like your scooter can be, or how un-cool your plate is, or how horrible your colourway can be... simply if you ride a scooter, you are one of them. They welcome scooterists who were outcasted, judged, belittled or critisised. A red carpet welcomes you to join in any chill-out sessions or join in for any mini-rides around the island. It is the passion and energy that strengthens the spirit.

 

And for the record... I am proud to be part of AJ Scooters. ::
