My fellow brothers..here are the news clip of the new "Petrol" rule introduced by our neighbour.

(somehow i feel got 'something' to do with the Pedra Branca case )

 

 

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - The government will ban people in foreign-registered vehicles from buying gasoline in border areas of Malaysia, where heavy subsidies have kept petroleum costs low despite soaring prices internationally.

 

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Abdul Samad said a day earlier that the ban was aimed at keeping foreigners from driving into Malaysia from Thailand and Singapore to fill up on cheap gasoline and diesel, which cost up to twice as much in the neighboring countries.

 

The ban was "a stern act by the government to reduce the leak in subsidy," national news agency Bernama quoted Shahrir as saying. His aide, who declined to be named citing protocol, confirmed his comments Tuesday.

 

The fuel subsidies, which were expected to cost the government 45 billion ringgit (US$14 billion; �9 billion) this year, "should actually be enjoyed by the lower-income group in the country" and not foreigners, Shahrir said.

 

"This move is temporary until we come up with better management of our subsidy system," The Star daily quoted him as saying.

 

Shahrir said the ban could take effect as early as Friday at up to 300 stations within 30 miles (50 kilometers) of the borders with Thailand and Singapore.

Alang Zari Ishak, president of a local petroleum dealers association, said the ban may hurt tourism and relations with Malaysia's neighbors.

 

"It's a very harsh decision," he said. "There are other ways to curb this subsidy money being utilized."

 

Enforcement officers will monitor gasoline stations and signs will inform motorists of the new rule, Shahrir said. Those found breaking the rule could be fined or face up to three years in jail, said another official in Shahrir's ministry. He declined to be named, citing protocol.

 

Currently, foreign registered vehicles are allowed to buy only up to 5.3 gallons (20 liters), he said.

 

Although oil prices have soared globally, the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has not raised retail gasoline, diesel or gas prices.

apparently majority if not all racers in SG are cursing n swearing coz they can't go track anymore at Pasir Gudang coz its within the 50km radius.

 

well, i hope PG becomes yet another white elephant, the same goes for all the petrol kiosks at GP and those juz after Wdl customs, and the locals can shop at the shopping malls wif ease coz no more infested wif SG ppl!

I can't help but share Kazky's sentiments abt this being Msia's sore-loser attempt to try and cause some frustration to us by doing this. The poor idiots don't realise they're actually doing themselves more harm than us with this move.

Guy's, finally got my silver FJR last wk,back to riding again after nearly 2 mth.i'm still learning and trying to understand this babe,totally different world when compare to sportbike,i'm very much like on riding posture, turning radius,chainless,abs(tried on high speed hard braking very effective)and side box(ease on luggage)...see ya.

Plan a trip for late June la bro. Like Fraser's Hill or sthing. Or maybe in early July after skool hols. We can try gathering members for the trip from now.

jus remember not to down gear and throw clutch like a chain bike, cos shaft driven bike the torque is high, will wheel lock

don't worry so much bro. the ban is only for 50km, so just ensure you've enuf fuel to last beyond that, then hit the next available pump to top up before you continue your journey. this should't be a reason to cut down on touring. even near thai border only for 50km, so just top up full before approaching the 50km cut-off mark can already. thai fuel isn't that ex either right?

My last and final petrol top up just now at 0300 hrs..

sigh! Gonna miss the Esso F1 pump i always use.

Gone are the days just travelling to JB to feed my Dark Angel. And now it looks like she's gonna start having her "meal" at a "Fine Dining Restaurant" now. Pain on pockets!

Also gone are the days to mit up with fellowships for cheap makan and "feeding" each own babies.

Darn those despicable people who break up relations with everyone and everything!! :angry:
