me experienced the same after extensive use of the foot brake in congested traffic. mine is a 2004 abs model.

got panic in the beginning, now got used to it liao. use hand brake loh.

my mech oso no idea wat's happening.

Hi guys, looks like an exciting weekend ahead. For some of you anyway... Unlike the rest of us who got work and weddings to attend.

ANYWAY, was on the way to training along a congested PIE. I have a habit of standby-ing my foot on the brake pedal during congestions, jams, u-turns, etc coz it helps me negotiate slow speed better. Thats just my habit coz it works.

It was after abt 15km of lane-splitting that i realise, suddenly, the brake faded. TOTALLY. I mean, when i stepped on the damn pedal, it went all the way down without any braking effect taking place on the rear wheel. And while my mind was wondering in a slight panic mode about what the hell just happened, one bloody Merc switched lanes suddenly. Whoa. Panic liao.

I carried on slowly but surely till i exited PIE, all the while avoiding the use of the rear brake. It was a good 7-8mins later that the rear brake finally lost the 'fade' and came back to life. I never had these sorta prob with my previous bikes, albeit all were non-ABS. Somebody nice enough to explain? Just your opinion guys...

I encounter it before too... I change the spring inside pump and everything ok after i change it... or it might be over heat due to keep pressing the brake

the rear brake 'fading' is normal for bikes. we're not supposed to use rear brake alot anyway right? front 70%, rear 30%. there's a reason why front 2 caliper and rear 1 caliper. during jam dont speed in between. and use front only with rear supporting. hope this helps guys. ride safe, look good.

No lah, 70-30 is during e-brake. We are encouraged to use rear more during noirmal riding.

Anyway, I haven't exp in-riding brake fade though.

I experience this issue before when I was riding in KL with some friends last time, really a panic situation.

Anyway I think it is an issue with the brake pad material because I don't belief brake pad can be glazed so easily.

Now I am always more careful with it and uses the front more often.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Hi guys

Thanks for all your opinions... Very much appreciate. Also good to know that mine was not exactly an isolated case. I guess, like some of you have mentioned, i need to limit the use of brakes during certain times/conditions.

Oh btw wubefrub, i dont often use the rear brake. Kinda prefer feeling the front-end rather than the rear. But as i mentioned, only during those slow manovuering times i use abit more of the rear. The rear brake has its limits and they're definitely much lower than that of the front! Thanks anyway.

Hope you guys have a good January ahead. Pray for the rain in Singapore and Malaysia to subside pls... Off to a tour this weekend.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Greetings! I just bought a second hand '04 model last week and I am enjoying my ride! As I am new to the bike, I hope I can learn more about the bike from the experienced riders here =) By the way, I tried to put my bike on mainstand as the carpark as my place is extremely small and tight in space. However, maybe my technique is wrong, I have big problem in raising my bike up to be on the mainstand. May I ask if anyone faces the same problem and if there are any solution/good technique to share in putting the bike on mainstand?

Many thanks in advance!

i normally just adjust the handle bar straight, keep my left hand on the left handlebar grip just to keep it straight

right hand on the grip that u can find below the seat, i hold onto it so i dun fall as i put my weight on the main stand.

then just step on the main stand, the bike should just roll up backwards.
