Hello,

I dont really know where to post this in SGbikes, but i hope anyone can help me.

I was wondering if Singapore driver's licence can be used in European countries like Germany.

i tried to look for the info in the german embassy of singapore but they do not have a contact number..

i do not wish to email them over such a small matter, unless i cant get this info anywhere else..

so pls, enlighten me.

Your singaporean licence can be used in Germany. But before you go, you will need to apply for an International Driving Permit at AA of Singapore. The cost is very cheap. This international licence has to be used in conjunction with your singapore photo card driving licence. The countries that accept the cards are reflected on your international driving permit regardless of LHD or RHD. Basically with the card, you can drive in most countries. You can go to Germany and rent a car and drive around even though it is LHD.

I checked out the AA site and yes, you have to pay a s$20 processing fee and this is valid for a year.

however, if one wants to drive for more than 3 mths he/she will need to check with the German embassy.

I am flying over there for work this Saturday for 10 days. I've already rented a car over one of the weekend. I can help you check with them what are the requirements if you intend to drive >3mths.

i only have a 2A licence tho. not class 3.

my dad has a bike there so i intend to ride it legally.

I sure hope that they do not have this 2nd rider policy like we do here in SG.

anyway, i downloaded the application form for the IDP, looks pretty straight forward..

Our 2A licence is not really well recognised in the world. You need a class 2.

 

You can go straight to AA and apply. It's somewhere near the town. I applied for mine personally.
