And here I was considering installing a day running light ha ha.

Looks like high beam is still the most effective in being visible to other road user during the day.

So it's high beams + day running lights for me then muah ha ha ha ha!:thumb:

Never thought about switching on high beam during the day. Assumed it's a no-no cos it would irritate other road users. But bearing in mind what was said, I think using it in the day seems to make much good sense. Of cos, high beam should not be used unless absolutely necessary during the night.

From the practical perspective, can we hear from anyone who actually uses high beam routinely on Singapore roads in the day? Has there been any adverse feedback from other road users?

I think bulb life, like battery life, is secondary when it comes to safety. But just curious -- how many hours do the bulbs typically last? And are they expensive to replace?

With the switching of high beam during day time it may or may not be considered aggressive but rather to me its a case more to inconsiderate behavior. Because of your selfish behavior of being seen and staying alive, you irritate the driver/rider who actually use their rear view or side mirror to look out for other road user behind. Try using your high beam on bikers/driver who don't use their mirror or worst don't have one ha ha especially bike racer wannabe with no mirrors or just there for TP to see only.

Switching on High beam to be seen is a very subjective preference I think. Although it greatly enhances bikers safety but courtesy and being considerate are what every road user should practice.

End of the day, being considerate cost how much? Considerate and die or inconsiderate and live?

It's a really really fine line!

In any case, u are mistaken by my statement. I will explain further.

1) SYM GTS is using on H7 bulb. So there are 2x nos of H7 bulb (1 for Low beam, 1 for High beam)

2) Each bulb got their own lifespan (number of hours)

3) Assuming we are riding 3 hours in the day and 3 hours in the nite. Total of 6hours a day ?

4) If we use 6 hours on one single bulb, Are we decreasing the rate of usage faster ?

5) Assume that if we use 3 hours on a single bulb, Are we increasing the bulb durability ?

In FJrider comment that we should encourage rider to turn on their high beam during the daylight to increase our visiblitiy to other road user. Which i strongly agreed. IN any case, if you are not AWARE of , the brightness of the high beam during the afternoon SUN ( or in the day) are the almost same as the low beam during the nite. Do a test if you do not believe.

I do not encourage rider to on the high beam during the nite, which is super nusiance to other road user.

In another point of my selfishness view, I DO NOT CARE whether if the road user have my high beam in their side mirror (During the day) . If they seem my high beam, meaning that my presence have been noticed and they will not do anything to cause collison/accident with me. DO NOT COMPROMISE YOUR OWN SAFETY for the comfort of others .

Just for a laugh.

No rider/driver will keep staring at the side mirror while riding or driving.

Its high beam for me but I keep my distance from the vehicle in front. I used to have the Kisan Path Blazer installed on the high beam of my previous 1800. Whenever I use it on the NSH, vehicle in front of me will siam :)

Practically, the issue on high beam during the day is depend on styles of individual rider and the situation. there is no right or wrong. As long as safety measurement is there...

Example

1) A rider travel at 80kmph, no squeeze in between cars, no overtaking... simply follow

Should the rider on the high beam ? My styles - NO

2) A Rider travel 90~100kmph, doing over taking, squeeze in between car....

Should the rider on the high beam ? My styles - Yes

3)During Peak hour, It a trend that rider tends to travel in between car,

Should the rider on the high beam ? My styles - Yes (No unless there bike infront of me) Together with hazard light turn on.

4)If we are traveling in the tunnel... should we on our high beam ?

My styles - NO (Unless I doing Point 2 &3)

My styles of turning High beam have saved me from those car that wanted to do sudden lane changing. Of course, IT doesn't help when those driver who chose to hack care or doesn't check their mirror.

SYM GTS H7 bulb.

The original bulb is almost the same as OSRAM SILVERSTAR or Philips DIAMOND HD

There is no replacement of original H7 bulb in SINGAPORE Market.

At Autobach or ONline... for OSRAM Nitebreaker... cost around 70 buck. Sliverstar is around 50 buck for a pair

Those who change to aftermarket bulb will notice that the headlight is dimmer then before.

Seriously Guys,

What concern me the most is SAFETY. I have lost a few riders due to the careless and overlook of other road users. Pratically those in four wheels have the mental think of Bochap styles. They think they are safe inside their car. Anything happen, INSURANCE claim lor.

BUT how about us ? WE as rider, any mistake...... We will be send to see our maker. Will that be too late to say, IF I KNOW IT EARLIER.... I WILL DO THIS, I WILL DO THAT . too late, bros...

I dare to challenge anyone to ask Traffic Police ."If We follow everything what the traffice law say (No speeding, no overtaking etc) .Can they ensure me of my safety, Can they ensure that we will not be knock by other road user" the answer is NO. They cannot ENSURE. ( I try before in one of their safety talk)

Riding required our senses. enticipate what other road user are doing. These will avoid unwanted mistake caused by them.

There a saying which i learn in one of the safety talk host by SAF back in 1998. I remember it till now.

"Treat other road user as IDIOT ! Imagine urself as world best driver/rider. When U are surround by idiot, You will automatic aware of them and beware of them."

In my point of view, I just wish all my frenz to be safe. So that we can see each other everytime during meetup. Enjoy each other accompany during riding/touring.

When I was in the GWS EXCO, we met TP on safety issues many times so much so that I have doubts about TP sincererity towards safety of bikers. We proposed to them to make it compulsory for cases of accident between other vehicle and motorcycle, the onus should lies on the other party to prove their innocence. This will make other road users be mindful of bikers ., Just my 2 cents worth!

Do you guys cover your bikes? Just curious. At the moment I don't, but am thinking of doing so because it rains so frequently.

The difference between electronic and carburetor-based machine is around $600. That's roughly the price difference between the Sym 200i Evo and the Sym GTS 200. There are also styling differences between the two models but essentially the build is similar. So which is the better buy?

Actually I opted for the 200i more because the floor panel was flat. Subsequently I read that the EFI feature is also an important one. But is it worth the price difference?

Posted (edited)

Yes. It's worth the price in my opinion. Try converting a carb system to fuel injection. It'll cost not just $600. An average racing carb already cost about $300.

You have to change parts like

Injector

Electrical fuel pump

Electronic control unit

Higher fuel pressure hose

Throttle control body to control air flow

Intake sensor to measure the amount of airflow

Exhaust O2 sensor to measure the mixture of burned fuel

Etc

Correct me if im wrong.

I do believe that fuel injection uses lesser fuel compare to the carb ones.

As for the price,

Yes FI is more expensive coz of the electronics and the injection timing need to be adjusted or tuned using computer (only specialised motorshop like HKL or Unique can do this)

For Carb is more of a mechanical. Which means the control is based on the throttle cable pulling the carb and carb can be tuned using screw (Advantage of Carb for tuning purposes)

To say which one is better, my opinion is FI :) I am a fuel savvy guy :thumb:

When you cover your bike, you are putting up a "room vacant" sign for kitty and pu55y :) to apply. At the same time, by covering, it will help keep the shine in the paintwork.

By not covering your bike, you enjoy the convenience of just starting your bike and zoom off. Save you the hassle of folding! Note that RUST will set in faster esp now being the rainy season.

On the subject of EFI and carb model ... it's like choosing an ABS or non ABS model. For me I would gladly choose an ABS model if the GTS has one.

I cover because I don't want my seats to be scratch by the cats.

Must buy very big cover so as to warp completely or in a way there's no gaps for the cats to enter.

I don't mind they sleep on the seat and leave a lot of hair but please don't pee and step all over the seat with muddy feet.

Worst still, some even do stretching and scratching exercise on the seat!

In fact anything rubbery they can get their claws on.
