I have emailed the Sym people about this issue. Seemingly, the Joyride 200i Evo has no hazard light switch. Looked high and low but nope..., I couldn't find it! But maybe I have not looked hard enough because it's quite incredulous that the bike should lack such a switch....

Hi Guys +sym-ers,

Just a short intro of myself, have my 2b license for quit a no. of years already and did ride a Vespa LX150 for few months and handed it over to my pal. reasons beings the small wheels of vespa made me fall in d middle of expressway where a big lorry suddenly turn out when Im changing lane and lucky im still alive! 2nd reason is it top speed of only 100khp and after that its like flying already. lol! After much research and tots of what i need, i scope down to gts200 and read thru this thread but chance upon joyride evo 200i. May i ask what the different btw gts200 & evo200i? 1stly i know the design is diff and one is carb and one is efi and tank size evo200i is smaller.

Can any bros enlighten me on the pick up, top speed and fc for both?

is both bike parts easily available and maintenance?

Anyway im getting a 1st hand, as scare of 2nd hand bike trouble. basically the bike is for transport to and fro of work and weekend shopping trip. Which bike is better?

Hear from you ppl soon! Thanks.

As most Sym owners own either one bike or the other, it is hard to say which is better. For now, I am happy with my 200i Evo. Am not a speedster and actually am content cruising at 80 km/h. And the bike is able to do this comfortably. So far, have done slightly below 700 km, and everything is ok. Very pleased with the storage space as well as the flat floor panel.

The last time I checked, the price difference between the GTS 200 and the 200i Evo is $600. The main diff is carb vs efi, plus some minor design details. I think it's better to go for the efi -- theoretically, this should give a smoother performance.

yea i agree too for myself is oso a sym 200i evo rider as well. Been riding for the past 2mth + with no much

hiccups. Clocking 6000km+ so far. Love every bits of it interms of comfort, ride quality , FC ( seems to improve quite abit too )

Except for some jerking issue running @ low rpm like @ 20 . I wonder if any of u bros here encounter the same problems?

On your this prob. This is clutch prob and also you will feel this in the morning. Usually afternoon you Dun feel it. Warm up and you may want to check the clutch spring. And the pin

actually i did bring bk for svc since it was still under warranty. The mech took out the components ( i guess should be the clutch , pin...etc..etc ) i saw the belt ( still very gd condition ,at that point of time was abt 4000+ km ) after they did the svc all was ok. Nt jerking at all , until recently it came bk again..

Perhaps nt warmup enuff before i move off?

Warming up is strongly recommended. also next time do the service of clutch too.

yep noted. Warming up is abt hw long? Normally i jus warm it up a min or so ? Dont think its enuff pa -_-

Anyway i jus took my bike out for a spin. Notice that when the engine is fully warmed up ( i suppose so, the jerking issue was GONE!)

Thanks yeokh & uinsolys for the reply on 200i evo! Im not a speeder myself but in the expressway u need to have some good speed of 100-120kph, i believe gts200 norm topspeed is 120kph, so can 200ievo do that too? Actually im more into 200ievo, as i like the headlight design more and it come in white and i want a bike with little or less problem as i read gts200 gt small problem with the fuel line where a bro here have to drag bk workshop 3 times! i wont want to b in his shoe in a 1st hand bike man! Hopefully everything goes well for him!

On the first day that I broke in the machine, I took it over 100 km/h without problems. But no, I haven't tried 120 km/h at any time and don't care to do that. I believe both bikes have the same engine capacity -- about 170cc so they would have roughly the same top speeds.

nice that it is "solved"

also pls noted that it is hard to give a actual timing of how long as there are other factors, such as

- oil rating

- engine condition

- weather condition.

but if possible at least let the temp go up to the 1st mark or two. you decide :)

So it looks like the bike doesn't have this switch. Just slightly puzzled that it should be mentioned in the manual. And so far, the Sym people have not replied to my queries.

My GTS is doing fine after they change the whole fuel supply system from feeder line to carburetor.

I believe the hazard light can be done. Need to install a switch and a relay.

Hi FJRider, glad to hear ur gts is doing well again!

Just went to mah motor to view both the gts200 and 200i evo, get even more confused after viewing. haha but 200ievo cost more by around if im not wrong around 600-800. kinda sian 200ievo dont come in white. thereafter went asphoon, they only have gts and given final price was $7600. i believe because he dont carry 200ievo aso he said that 200ievo spareparts very little and he would recommend me gts200 but overall he's a very helpful guy!

So where you guys service ur gts200 and 200ievo? i know of futurescootering! i heard there a good one at serangoon north right? can bros here provide me with details as i live at serangoon north!

hi guys, i have narrowed down my options to either SYM GTS200/200iEvo or Honda PCX due to COE ending soon, thus need your valuable inputs related to GTS. my ride will be for commuting between home and work and occasional weekend rides. currently on phantom TA200, which i diligently change EO monthly. throughout the years, i had changed the dead batts twice, apart from the tyres/chain - which i think is really-really low maintenance & high in reliability.

1) how is the reliability of GTS?

2) maintenance?

3) spare parts availability and cost?

4) any other negs experience that you had?

TIA!

Hi Scud,

for yr question, the GTS200/200i evo compare to PCX is the engine capacity and weight

PCX is 125cc and its kind of very light especially if lorry pass by u'll fly off to one side

GTS is 200cc and there alil weight on it so as lorry pass by u will not swerve that bad as compare to PCX

GTS have bigger storage than PCX

Price wise GTS is 4500k and PCX 8000k Machine ---> so you decide..heheheh

SYM Bikes has a very low maintenance bro u no need to worry so much on it :thumb:

The price of a machine in Singapore is rather complicated. $4500 (not $4500k!!) sounds low for a GTS -- this excludes the COE and insurance? Currently, I would expect a new GTS to cost more than $7k, all-in.

And by the way, Sym bikes that are labelled 200 (GTS 200 and 200i Evo) are actually 170 cc bikes. Just to be clear what you are buying.

Cos Sym is quite a popular brand, don't think there is any problem with spare parts... though I am not absolutely sure on this one. But in terms of technology, the 200i is probably more advanced than the GTS. Of course, there is a also a significant price difference. But if you spread the cost over a few years, it may be worthwhile to go for the 200i. Anyway, I was faced with the same choices and opted for the 200i for that reason.
