I think it is not possible to mount a CBR900 suspension. However, you can mount a F4 CBR600 suspension with a customised mounting bracket.

The CBR600F4 rear shock mounst straight into the Fireblade. No brackets or custom work required, just bolt it on. It raises the rear ride height which makes the handling more aggressive and provides better damping and adjustability than the standard shock.

The 600 shock has rebound and compression damping as well as preload.

The spring on the 600 shock though is much too stiff for a 400, it is recommended that you put the spring from your old shock onto the 600 shock before fitting. The better damping characteristics of the shock will let you adjust it to be as stiff or soft as you like then.

You can also use shocks from certain model 900cc Blades but I am not sure which ones.

but if the rear is rise will it affect the handling esp during corner? coz CBR is supose to be low centre of gravity mah.

Rear cannot be too high..only abit otherwise when exiting corners with full throttle, will be unstable.

It raises it slightly, makes the turn in a bit quicker and more aggressive which is a good thing. Honda's are always lower in the back than they need to be, the handling is improved greatly by this.

There is no problem at all with the stability or handling with the extra height. I run these shocks on both of my CBR400 race bikes in Australia and you don't drive out of corners on the road anything like you do in a race :) I can open the throttle all the way to drive out of a corner no problem.

The shocks can be picked up quite cheap from ebay.com, the last one I bought cost me US$15 for the shock US$20 for shipping to Australia! Very cheap modification that improves the handling and ride of the bike a lot.

If you do this at the same time change to 15w oil in the front forks and an airgap of 120mm and this will stiffen up the front end nicely to match the new back end.

There you go for around $100 all up you will have much nicer and stiffer front and back with full adjustable damping in the back and better turn in for cornering :)

The F4i (or F4 Sport depending on the country, the sporty one with the split seats) has a shock that is 15mm longer than the previous model which makes it TOO long for the CBR400.

As far as I know though the F4i only started in 2001 so maybe the one you are looking at is actually from an F4?

The F4 had the little round air intakes at the front and the single large seat and ran up to 2000. The f4i had like traingular air intakes, seperate pillion and rider seats and is from 2001 onwards.

Hope that helps.

Only difference is the colour. The spring weight is the same.

The F4i shock is too long. Go to http://www.ebay.com and look for F4 rear shock, there are usually quite a few. Even if they say only ship to America if you ask them a question through ebay before you bid they will usually ship anywhere.
