for starters it's spelt rig not reg

this is probably a research kinda job doing seismic surveys as per their webby info http://www.slb.com/content/services/seismic/borehole/swings.asp

so this case you may or may not be rig based

you could very well be survey / supply vessel based

i do not know your contract, but most offshore companies would be working on a 28 on 28 off contract

meaning you'll be 28 days working on site

and 28 days off (travel inclusive in days off) or could even be workshop based if you have support systems / workshops here in Singapore

things to think about and ask them are

1. what would your rotation be? 28 on site and 28 wait at home (full time pay even on off) aka commuter

2. would you be on a Singapore contract or a US$ expatriate contract

3. what training would be provided

4. most MNC's would have good family benefits, so what do they offer

that's about all i can think of now...

Grounded... :/

hi thankz for the reply & correction of word..hehe.

well, dont really noe alot of its details, moreover its technicalllity of work. Caz just went in for their second interview which also their final interview, there after, they will give a call on the status of it.

From what i noe, they mention dat u sure gonna do alot of travelling at least 50% of the time, the rate will be in USD once u start werking out in the sea, meaning once u completed of 1 yr training of in base company and on the job training, u will be working alone.

just some outline of the job mention:

- prepare technical reports

- pull cables & install heavy equipments on offshore oilrigs

- install/calculate/configure/mantain satellite or navigation system

i will definetly take note on wat u mention below, thanks :

what else do you wanna know?

it's a life that some just never get used to

imagine being away from home, family & friends, all the things that you're used to, basically general civilisation

but some people only know that life

i've been working at sea and the oil industry since i was 17. with just 3 years break from it during NS days.

i'm in love with the lifestyle of travelling, seeing new places, meeting new people etc

but unfortunately i've been land locked for about 2 years now being a trainer here in singapore - no not with SLB but with a drilling contractor with minimal travel and i'm getting the wanderlust again

furthermore with the present down turn, its going to get a little quiter before it picks back up again.

but once you get used to the travelling and all, it does become addictive

if you are married it would be very straining for starts coz most people don't work like this - being away for a long stretch at a time, and i'll be honest here, a lot of marraiges fall through that way if the couple cannot find middle ground

Grounded... :/

I heard that slb is taking only 1 field engineer for every 24 months... is this true?? if it is true is this world wide kind of thingy? or just a regional? Interested in the field operation, since I would like to understand more of those toolings that we have been selling and designing.

it's not very difficult actually....

and it's rather over rated....

SLB and haliburton has plant in tuas... but mostly manufacturing... but it's a gd start i guess...

basic is ok... but bonus is surprisingly low...

of course, if you're willing to work in god forsaken places then it's a different ball game....
