Hi,

This is my attempt to clean the headlight assembly.

1) Firstly you have to disassemble the headlight assembly of coz. You can refer to your manual to find out how to disassemble it.

2) Below is my NC29 headlight assembly, as you can see the headlights look very cloudy.

3) This is how I cleaned it. I dun have any pictures but I’ll try to explain as best as I can. Firstly if your headlights are those newer model ones, most probably the lens is made out of plastic so you cannot use this method. Mine is made out of glass, so what I did was remove each headlight from the holder. Then I went to wash the exterior and interior with hand wash liquid soap, figured if it’s safe to use on my hands it should be safe for the headlights too. (Newer plastic lens should not use water as the water marks will be there). Then mine had some black burnt ashes stuck to the reflector side so I used sandpaper, I think it as 600 grid, and slowly sanded it away. Dun sand too much or you will sand the reflector away also! Then I washed it again with water. Then I used hairdryer to dry the whole thing up. Dun worry about it getting too hot when you are drying it, it’s an headlight assembly it should be able to take that much of heat. After that I used the sandpaper and I slowly sanded the lens of the headlight, this was to remove any thing that was stuck on the lens. After sanding I used a wet cloth and wiped it clean, then I used window cleaner to wipe the interior and exterior of the headlight. Mine had a big opening so can clean inside as well. After this I heard you can polish the lens with car polish. But I skipped that as my hands were aching from all the sanding.

4) Below is the final product after cleaning. As you can see it looks clearer now.

5) The next portion is probably meant for CBR 400 only. As you can from below, the stock assembly comes with some kind of form to keep rain/dirt particles etc out. But with an almost 20 yr old bike you wun be able to find one.

6) So what I did was go looking so some kind of form that is waterproof and maybe black in color. What I found was this, a form mat piece from daiso. It’s not black though.

7) The next step was cut a whole that could fit the headlight assembly.

8) Then do the same for the other headlight.

9) Now put them back onto the bracket.

10) The “new” one waiting to be mounted and to the right of it is the old one taken out.

11) Mounted the headlight assembly, had to remove the form before mounting.

12) Then fit in the foam.

13) Test with pole lights.

14) Test with both pole lights and headlights.

15)Another look (Diff Angle).

16) Finally with everything fitted back on and parked in the parking lot (Pole lights only).

Most probably I’ll be spraying the form to black color another day. Everything went well, except I broke one of my Philips diamondvision, had it for 3 yrs. Lastly when you DIY something the feeling you get when you look at the final product is so great!:thumb:
