Firstly u shd let us know wat happened when u hit the starter switch. A click sound onli, starter like stuck? Althou horn n lights work fine, but the starter needs 12V. Did it fail to start even immediately after riding? last time when i had my planet i went to minerva then to michael( Lower Labour charge!!)

my starters gone just b4 1 year old n heng its still under warranty. If not its $500. i think the coil is abt 200+ if not wrong......wish u luck that its onli a loose wire connection n nothing else^^ Good luck

previously, there's a faint wanting whirling sound when i press the starter, like some thing is rotating and occasional clicking sounds.

Now, after a week or so, it seems like there's no sound at all, just like a dead button. Push start is really easy though..(maybe that cos i'm strong:confused: )

another question i would like to add...is it possible to somehow install a kickstart?

1) Do the electrical components work when the key is turned to the on position? Is main beam bright?

2) Do you hear a whirling sound when you press the starter after checking 1?

Finally, don't jump to conclusions that the coil needs to be replaced. Any motorshop will happily sell you a new coil at an obscene profit, while secretly fixing your starter switch.

Yes! All ok! horn works, but not very loud

2) Do you hear a whirling sound when you press the starter after checking 1?

At first yes, but no like no sound anymore...only occasional..

Do they have 2nd hand there?

They might have used Planets from people who come to do trade-ins but it is very uncommon now. Speak to the female manager (think her name is Mary) and let her know you are looking for a used Planet. She will pass your contact info to those who come looking to sell. That is how I get mine

Hey romp69,

Your problem sounds very similar to mine i.e. press starter button, got little sound/ no sound at all, push until siao after that.

It is highly probable your battery is flat (

You might want to try the following:

- Use a voltmetre/multimetre to check your battery voltage. Normal should be >= 12V.

- Clean all your electrical contacts under your saddle with a contact cleaner e.g. fuses, signal relay, starter motor, rectificer etc.

- Push start your bike and bring it to one of the expressways for charging. Follow the approximate gear/speeds in one of my previous posts to ensure charging (above 6000 RPM) and ride for about 20-30 mins. I normally go to ECP at late night, head to Changi and back.

- Try to ride without using the main headlights because they really drain the batteries; use the pole lights (2nd setting on the headlight switch). They should be sufficient to get around and even by TP unless you run into a really ngeow officer.

- When your bike is parked, make sure the headlights switch is off and keep the engine kill switch off too. This should ensure that there are no electrical leakages that might be draining your battery.

If the above don't solve your problems, you should go to a motorshop to have the bike looked at. Try not to change your rectifier unless you are 100% sure it is dead. I am not sure but you might need to use the original rectifier which is going to be expensive. Even a 3rd party one will not come cheap, provided you can use it.

Remember that the battery needs to be charged whenever the bike is on the move. So that means you need to go at 6000 RPM whenever possible, not just before you stop the bike for the day. Hope the above helps! :goodluck:

You have been the most helpful. Thanks I appreciate your advice.

Btw, is there an alternative to this? Like replacing with batteries that don't require charging at ridiculous speeds?

i did my riding normally n the batt lasted for at least more then 1 1/2 year. i do not have a rev counter then. Hmmm once every 1+years or more for a replacement of batt......sounds ok.

So wats the real prob? Y not bring to a shop n let all ours mind rest^^

6000 RPM sounds like alot, especially if you drive more than you ride. Being a driver for many years, I too wondered how to get 6000 RPM without getting a ticket from TP. I then realised that for bikes, especially 2 strokes, you can drag longer on lower gears and that the rule of thumb of cruising on the 4th or 5th gear does not apply. Bikes also tend to generate a lot more revs than a car; a 4 stroke 250cc bike idles at about 1500 RPM while a car idles at about 500-700 RPM.

For the Planet, in city stop and go traffic, 3rd gear should give you the 6000 RPM you need. I find that only when you go to about 65km/h do you need to kick up to 4th. Don't go beyond 80 km/h though... I did that once by accident and my Planet started to buck like a horse :cheeky:

I got mine from a friend who didn't really want to sell it but I convinced him somehow.

I saw a red one for sale at one of the shops in Ubi, can't remember which shop though.

ermmm.....cut open it n remove all the things or ...half the things inside. But be prepare closing down of the ROVs n u may need to get a original exhuast if u r really that unlucky as wat r the chances of TPs or ROVs hear a planet. Last time when i was riding my planet.....the TP caught me for speeding n while looking at my beloved planet, he asked me........class 2A ah? ...........:sian:

Michael had left Minerva i think....for abt 2 years. As for that plumb gentleman, i always tot his name is Ah Yong...

Parts may really be cheaper at minerva but its the labour charges that kills. But anyway Michael had been nice to me when he was there opps.......

Finally, its Eugene n Yong hu r working there now. Eugene........personally had bad impression...the phase that still ring in my ears now "Aiyah monster 400 nothing much to play one lah, come back next time when on a M9"

So now the next time had arrived but sorry i am going to play else where.
