International License or License Conversion?

Good Day , Sg brothers...

I ask for favor here to answer my question . Just feel free to enlighten me .

Here it goes ...

1- I am a Malaysian , I will purchase a class 2 Sg registered bike sooner or later and I have even addresed question to L.T.A.

As per LTA, i will have no problem register a bike using my passport and provided a Sg address as mailing corrospondence .

Problem is, it'll be my responsibility to at least cover up the bike with Third Party Insurance and provided relevant license.

 

2- So, I am a holder of International License from my home country .

a) From Singapore T.P.

Those on short term social visit may drive with their foreign license up to 12 month 'each time' they enter Singapore .

 

Referring to 2a, I am a 100% Malaysian and i will not stay in Sg long enough for 12 month . Purpose of visit will only for vacation or the 'Bike' yearly inspection for annual road tax renewal .

 

Thus , shall I convert my current license to a Singapore License or keep on Malaysia International License ?

Will Sg insurance company insure me with my International License OR this insurance will only happen when my License is converted ??

as i see it, you should probably approach the insurance company about coverage for operating a singapore-registered vehicle with your malaysian license.

 

but is it worth the trouble owning and operating a bike in singapore when you're not based here?

 

why not ride a malaysian bike into singapore, leave it here, and use it whenever you are in singapore (assuming you have a place to park it)?

 

might be cheaper. you would still have wheels whenever you visit singapore. you don't have to give up your malaysian license either.
