Help! Nintendo Wii's Band Hero

Need help guys....

 

Bought a set of Band Hero which came with guitar, drums and microphone.

 

However I can't get the mic to work in Career Mode in Band Hero. It would only work when I'm playing Sing Along. In Career Mode, I can select the guitarist and the drummer but the singer is not available for me to select as you need to hit the Green button to proceed.

 

The microphone itself has no buttons whatsoever. Its just a standard standalone USB mic connected to the console directly. Anyone able to help out? Supposed to be a family weekend entertainment but my motley crew is short of a singer! :lol:
